OBJECTIVE: To describe, to our knowledge, the first reported case of how to safely and effectively complete complex percutaneous coronary intervention in a patient with dextroversion and a severely calcified obstructive lesion in the left anterior descending coronary artery.
KEY STEPS: A 68-year-old man with self-reported dextrocardia and progressive angina underwent preprocedural coronary computed tomography angiography, which diagnosed dextroversion, multivessel disease, and a calcium score of 1,089. Horizontal fluoroscopic inversion was applied and improved visual familiarity but did not r

RATIONALE: Kartagener syndrome, a variant of primary ciliary dyskinesia, is defined by chronic sinusitis, bronchiectasis, and situs inversus. While recurrent infections are seen, a combination of thromboembolic disease, pulmonary mycetoma, cardiac dysfunction, and serological evidence of autoimmune disorders is very uncommon.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 27-year-old man with Kartagener syndrome and situs inversus totalis complaining of worsening dyspnea, chest pain, fever, hemoptysis, and ankle swelling. His past medical history included episodes of deep vein thrombosis, recurrent pulmonary embolism,

Acute appendicitis in patients with situs inversus totalis (SIT) represents a diagnostic challenge because the clinical presentation frequently differs from the classic right lower quadrant pain pattern. We present the case of a 37-year-old male with acute appendicitis associated with previously undiagnosed SIT, identified incidentally during diagnostic imaging. The patient presented with left lower quadrant abdominal pain, leukocytosis, and localized tenderness. Computed tomography revealed dextrocardia and left-sided inflammatory changes compatible with acute appendicitis in the setting of S

A 4-year-old boy with dextrocardia, congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries, pulmonary valve stenosis, and ventricular septal defect demonstrated progressive hypoxemia and mild-to-moderate mitral and tricuspid regurgitation. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging revealed insufficient right ventricular volume for Senning-Rastelli type anatomical repair. Given the elevated surgical risk associated with mitral regurgitation and inadequate ventricular volume, an initial palliative approach was undertaken at 2 years of age, consisting of systemic-to-pulmonary shunt placement and mit

BACKGROUND: Foetal situs abnormalities, including situs inversus totalis (SIT), right atrial isomerism (RAI) and left atrial isomerism (LAI), are associated with substantial variation in cardiac anatomy and postnatal outcomes. This study aimed to compare prenatal characteristics, associated abnormalities, perinatal outcomes, postnatal management and survival among foetuses with SIT, RAI and LAI.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 73 foetuses prenatally diagnosed with SIT (n = 12), RAI (n = 24) or LAI (n = 37) at a tertiary foetal cardiology and perinatology centre between 2021

UNLABELLED: This study presents the first systematic genome-wide characterization of the proline-rich extensin-like receptor kinases (PERK) gene family in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) and their transcriptional responses under abiotic stresses. Using the latest SL4.0/ITAG4.0 genome assembly, we identified six SlPERK genes, all harboring the conserved Ser/Thr protein kinase domain. Evolutionary and structural analyses revealed strong purifying selection (Ka/Ks < 1), distinct exon-intron organizations, and the presence of stress- and hormone-responsive cis-regulatory elements in their promoters.

OBJECTIVE: Dextrocardia refers to the right-sided positioning of the heart during embryonic development and may occur in isolation or in association with visceral malposition or other malformations. However, few studies have investigated this condition. This study aimed to determine the incidence of cardiac and non-cardiac malformations, as well as to analyze long-term follow-up and survival outcomes in patients with dextrocardia.
METHODS: This was a retrospective chart review of dextrocardia cases at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from April 22, 197

Mirror-image dextrocardia combined with absence of the hepatic segment of the inferior vena cava (IVC) and continuation of the azygos vein represents an extremely rare dual anatomical variation that significantly increases the technical complexity of leadless pacemaker (LP) implantation. This paper presents a 28-year-old male patient who required permanent pacing therapy due to third-degree atrioventricular block. Preoperative computed tomography angiography (CTA) clearly identified the aforementioned malformations. A Micra AV leadless pacemaker was subsequently implanted successfully via the

OBJECTIVE: We describe a successful mitral valve transcatheter edge-to-edge repair in a patient with primary ciliary dyskinesia and situs inversus (Kartagener syndrome).
KEY STEPS: Preprocedural imaging was conducted to understand mirror-image anatomy. Transesophageal echocardiography angulation adjustment was needed for dextrocardia, and the MitraClip system was rotated by 180°for maneuverability. Sequential clip placement was performed with real-time three-dimensional guidance.
POTENTIAL PITFALLS: Altered anatomy complicates standard echocardiographic views. MitraClip orientation and steer

Unilateral lung agenesis associated with congenital heart disease is very rare and the consequent malposition of the heart and mediastinal structures pose a technical challenge for definitive surgery. We describe a case of a three-month-old infant with right lung agenesis and a large ventricular septal defect who underwent successful surgical repair. The case highlights the importance of preoperative anatomic assessment and intraoperative adaption when presented with complex anatomy.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Dextrocardia with situs solitus is an exceptionally rare congenital anomaly. Its asymptomatic nature may delay diagnosis, highlighting the need for careful prenatal and postnatal evaluation.
CASE PRESENTATION: A full-term female neonate was found to have isolated dextrocardia with situs solitus following prenatal suspicion. Postnatal chest X-ray and echocardiography confirmed dextroversion with normal cardiac anatomy and function. No associated anomalies were found. The patient remained asymptomatic and was stable at 3-month follow-up.
CLINICAL DISCUSSION: Isolat

Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is an extremely rare congenital abnormality in which the positions of the body's organs are mirrored. It can be accompanied by dextrocardia, where the heart is located in the right thorax with its apex pointing to the right side of the body. Its rarity poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, particularly in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). We report the case of a 74-year-old woman who presented with dyspnea. Her medical history included hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, and dextrocardia with SIT, incidentally diagnosed at age 45 foll

Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (CC-TGA) may occur in isolation or may be associated with defects in the ventricular septum and stenosis of the pulmonary outflow tract. A large ostium secundum atrial septal defect (ASD) as the only other anomaly is rare in CC-TGA. We report successful use of an Amplatzer septal occluder to close an ASD in a patient with visceral situs inversus, dextrocardia, and CC-TGA.

INTRODUCTION: Percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation (PPVI) offers a minimally invasive alternative to surgical valve replacement in patients with right ventricular outflow tract dysfunction. However, valve malposition or migration can occur, necessitating surgical retrieval.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 16-year-old male with situs inversus dextroposition, mirror-image dextrocardia, and repaired Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), who developed severe pulmonary regurgitation and underwent PPVI using a MyVal valve in another hospital. Post-procedural imaging revealed valve malposition at the right

Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries is a rare congenital heart defect that may remain undiagnosed well into adulthood. We present the case of a 71-year-old male with dextrocardia and exertional dyspnoea, initially diagnosed with severe pulmonary hypertension. Further evaluation revealed an underlying congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries. This case highlights the importance of considering CHD in older adults with unusual cardiac findings.
