Understanding and managing dextrocardia with situs inversus: A case report.

Dextrocardia with situs inversus is an uncommon congenital disorder in which the heart and other organs in the chest and abdomen are reversed. Although it rarely causes symptoms, it can be linked to heart or systemic disorders and is challenging to diagnose due to its unique architecture. The present report describes the case of a 27-year-old man who presented with sudden breathing problems. A physical examination revealed no heartbeat on the left side and odd cardiac noises. Further electrocardiogram tests revealed classic symptoms of dextrocardia, including right axis deviation and inverted

Cryoballoon left atrial posterior wall isolation using the cross-over technique in situs inversus with dextrocardia: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Situs inversus with dextrocardia (SID) is a rare congenital condition with fully mirrored cardiac anatomy, posing unique technical challenges for catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF). Although cryoballoon (CB)-based left atrial posterior wall isolation (LAPWI) has recently been reported in a patient with SID, adjunctive radiofrequency catheter ablation was required to complete posterior wall isolation. We present a case in which complete LAPWI was achieved exclusively using CB applications, employing the previously described cross-over technique. CASE SUMMARY: A 69-year-o

Dextrocardia in Heterotaxy Syndrome (Polysplenia Variant) in a 36-Year-Old Ethiopian Woman: A Case Report and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND: Heterotaxy syndrome-polysplenia variant (left isomerism) with dextrocardia is a rare constellation of laterality defects characterized by left-isomerism, multiple splenic nodules, and associated vascular and visceral anomalies. This report describes an adult Ethiopian woman who presented with nonspecific abdominal pain and was found to have imaging features diagnostic of heterotaxy (polysplenia variant). CASE PRESENTATION: A 36-year-old Ethiopian female presented with a three-day history of mild to moderate, nonradiating anterior abdominal pain. Physical examination revealed the a

A Rare Case Study of Dextrocardia with Myocardial Infarction and Cerebrovascular accident in Situs Inversus Totalis.

Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a rare congenital condition, characterized by complete mirror-image transposition of the thoracic and abdominal organs. Although individual reports of myocardial infarction (MI) or cerebrovascular accidents in patients with SIT exist, the simultaneous occurrence of both is extremely rare and poses unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. We report the case of a 55-year-old female presenting with right-sided chest pain and later developing neurological deficits. Initial evaluation revealed dextrocardia and SIT on chest radiograph and abdominal ultrasound. El

Complete atrioventricular conduction system pacing in dextrocardia-a case report.

BACKGROUND: Conduction system pacing has been proven superior to conventional myocardial pacing in both atrial and ventricular conduction abnormalities. However, in dextrocardia, physiological pacing is difficult due to a lack of dedicated delivery tools. We present the case of a patient with dextrocardia and situs inversus, in whom both Bachmann bundle pacing and left bundle branch pacing were performed for advanced interatrial and atrioventricular block. CASE SUMMARY: A 76-year-old patient with dextrocardia and complete situs inversus was admitted for recurrent syncope. The electrocardiogra

Laparoscopic Appendectomy for Left-Sided Acute Appendicitis in Situs Inversus Totalis: A Case Report and Technical Considerations.

Left-sided acute appendicitis is an exceptionally uncommon presentation, most often associated with congenital anomalies such as situs inversus totalis (SIT), and may contribute to diagnostic delays. A 31-year-old man presented with a two-day history of migratory abdominal pain localized to the left lower quadrant, with nausea, vomiting, and anorexia. He was hemodynamically stable without leukocytosis. Contrast-enhanced CT demonstrated SIT and an inflamed appendix in the left lower quadrant (approximately 11 mm), with periappendiceal fat stranding and a small volume of free fluid, without pneu

Implantation of cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator with left bundle branch pacing in a patient with mirror-image dextrocardia: a case report.

Mirror-image dextrocardia is a rare congenital malformation of visceral transposition, and its completely reversed cardiac anatomical structure poses great challenges to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). Currently, clinical experience with left bundle branch pacing (LBBP) in such special patients remains extremely limited. This article reports a case of a 73-year-old male patient diagnosed with mirror-image dextrocardia complicated by advanced heart failure and complete left bundle branch block (CLBBB). Through preoperative mirror-image adaptation of electrocardiogram and digital subtra

Left-Sided Abdominal Pain Revealing Acute Cholecystitis in Situs Inversus Totalis: Diagnostic Pitfalls and Surgical Considerations.

Situs inversus totalis is a rare congenital condition that can complicate the diagnosis and management of acute abdominal pathology due to atypical symptom localization. Acute cholecystitis in this setting may present with left-sided abdominal pain, increasing the risk of misdiagnosis and delayed treatment. The scientific rationale for this case report is to emphasize the importance of recognizing anatomical variants when evaluating atypical abdominal presentations. We report the case of a 65-year-old woman who presented with left upper quadrant pain, nausea, and vomiting. Imaging studies demo

Personalized Surgical Tactics for an Adult Patient with Mitral Insufficiency and Dextrocardia with Situs Inversus Totalis.

We present a clinical case of mitral insufficiency in a 59-year-old patient with dextrocardia and complete transposition of the viscera. The patient underwent mitral valve posterior leaflet repair and annuloplasty. During the operation, a "mirror inversion" of the equipment and surgery team position was carried out. The special feature of the operation was due to the fact that the aorta and great vessels in the wound were mirror-image. The postoperative period proceeded without complications. Being aware of the patient's dextrocardia and hence organizing the surgical procedure appropriately, w

Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia With Situs Inversus in Twin Premature Infants: Two Case Reports.

AIMS/BACKGROUND: Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterised by structural or functional abnormalities of the cilia, which prevent proper oscillation. Patients typically present with symptoms such as chronic respiratory infections, bronchiectasis, and, in approximately half of the cases, inversion of internal organs. Due to its diverse clinical manifestations and lack of specificity, PCD is often misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed, and diagnosis in the neonatal period remains notably challenging. Therefore, this study aimed to analyse the clinical characte

Anaesthetic challenges in staged repair of coarctation and severe aortic stenosis in dextrocardia with situs inversus.

Coarctation of the aorta (CoA) is a rare congenital anomaly which can remain undiagnosed into adulthood. Furthermore, additional congenital anomalies of dextrocardia and situs inversus pose significant diagnostic and perioperative challenges and are exceedingly rare in occurrence. We report a unique case of a 53-year-old male with bicuspid aortic valve, severe aortic stenosis, ascending aortic aneurysm and post-ductal CoA, along with dextrocardia and situs inversus. He underwent staged surgical correction: first, CoA repair via right posterolateral thoracotomy due to dextrocardia; followed by

Zero-Fluoroscopy Cryoballoon Ablation for Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation in a Patient With Dextrocardia: A Case Report.

A 68-year-old man with mirror-image dextrocardia and symptomatic, drug-refractory paroxysmal atrial fibrillation underwent zero-fluoroscopy cryoballoon ablation. Intracardiac echocardiography and 3D electroanatomic mapping were used to guide transseptal puncture, navigate the mirror-image anatomy, and confirm pulmonary vein occlusion. All four pulmonary veins were successfully isolated without complications. At 1-year follow-up, the patient remained asymptomatic without antiarrhythmic medication. This case demonstrates the feasibility and safety of a completely fluoroless cryoballoon ablation

Safe Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in Mirror-Image Anatomy: Acute Biliary Pancreatitis and Acute Calculous Cholecystitis in Situs Inversus Totalis.

Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a rare congenital laterality anomaly characterized by the complete mirror-image transposition of the thoracic and abdominal viscera. Although it is usually asymptomatic, the occurrence of acute biliary disease poses significant diagnostic and surgical challenges because the atypical location of pain and reversed anatomy may complicate clinical assessment, interpretation of imaging studies, and laparoscopic planning. We present the case of a patient with acute biliary pancreatitis associated with acute calculous cholecystitis in the setting of SIT, whose manageme
