Application value of indocyanine green lymphography in the management of stage I/IIA microcystic lymphatic malformation of the tongue.

BACKGROUND: This study aims to investigate whether indocyanine green lymphography (ICGL) facilitates the effectiveness and accuracy of current management of lingual microcystic lymphatic malformation (mLM). METHODS: This retrospective included patients under 18 years old with mLM of the tongue staged I or IIA, who underwent ICGL-aided surgical resection and sclerotherapy (ICGL group) or only surgical resection and sclerotherapy (non-ICGL group) between January 2019 and June 2024. The peri- and postoperative parameters of safety and feasibility were compared between two groups. RESULTS: A tot

Homozygous Pathogenic MYH3 Variants Associated With Arthrogryposis and Lingual Dystonia.

INTRODUCTION: Heterozygous pathogenic variants in MYH3 are known to be responsible for distal arthrogryposis. CASE REPORT: We report a consanguineous family of four children with two likely pathogenic MYH3 homozygous variants associated with complex movement disorders, especially prominent lingual dystonia, along with skeletal abnormalities. The two variants in MYH3 (c.3445G>A and c.4760T>C) have already been described in patients with congenital arthrogryposis. No other significant variation was found using long-read whole genome sequencing. DISCUSSION: We have extended the phenotype of MYH

A Unique Presentation of Velopharyngeal Dysfunction Secondary to Chiari I Malformation.

An 8-year-old female presented with severe hypernasality and suspected velopharyngeal dysfunction (VPD). Physical examination demonstrated a hypoplastic hemi-velum, tongue atrophy, and deviated uvula. Nasopharyngoscopy demonstrated a significant, asymmetric velopharyngeal gap with adynamic hemi-velum and no lateral pharyngeal wall movement. Given the patient's focal neurologic findings, a magnetic resonance imaging was obtained for further evaluation. Magnetic resonance imaging findings were consistent with Chiari malformation type 1. This case illustrates an unusual presentation of VPD likely

A case of Schöpf-Schulz-Passarge syndrome presented with widespread apocrine hidrocystomas showing variable clinical features.

Dear Editor, Genodermatoses are usually diagnosed in early childhood but diagnosis may be delayed in rare cases. Schöpf-Schulz-Passarge syndrome (SSPS) first described in 1971 is a rare type of autosomal recessive ectodermal dysplasia characterized by palmoplantar keratoderma, periocular and eyelid apocrine hidrocystomas, hypodontia, hypotrichosis, and nail dystrophy (1). Fewer than 40 cases have been reported up to 2018 (2) and the number has slightly increased with subsequent case reports. We report here a 73-year-old male patient whose parents were third-degree cousins presented to dermatol

Distractor position and distraction amplitude in fronto-facial monobloc advancement : A case series.

Fronto-facial monobloc advancement with internal distraction (FFMBA) is a central procedure in the management of faciocraniosynostoses. In techniques with internal distraction, two sets of devices are generally positioned: bilateral fronto-orbital and temporo-zygomatic distractors, using a temporal tongue and groove osteotomy design. It is believed that distractors must be positioned as parallel as possible in the horizontal and sagittal planes to avoid mechanical conflicts between the sliding bone fragments of the tongue and groove during distraction, and thus optimize the advancement amplitu

Single-cell transcriptomic resolution of osteogenesis during craniofacial morphogenesis.

Craniofacial morphogenesis depends on complex cell fate decisions during the differentiation of post-migratory cranial neural crest cells. Molecular mechanisms of cell differentiation of mesenchymal cells to developing bones, cartilage, teeth, tongue, and other craniofacial tissues are still poorly understood. We performed single-cell transcriptomic analysis of craniofacial mesenchymal cells derived from cranial NCCs in mouse embryo. Using FACS sorting of Wnt1-Cre2 progeny, we carefully mapped the cell heterogeneity in the craniofacial region during the initial stages of cartilage and bone for

Influence of Bone Defects After Endoscope-Assisted Suturectomy on Monobloc Advancement in Syndromic Bilateral Coronal Craniosynostosis Patients.

Surgery is performed for craniosynostosis to enlarge intracranial volume and improve cranial morphology. Endoscope-assisted suturectomy is one of the effective treatments. Compared with other techniques, it is reported to be low invasive and enables improvement of cranial volume and morphology at an early age. At the National Center for Child Health and Development (Tokyo, Japan), endoscope-assisted suturectomy is performed for all patients with craniosynostosis under the age of 3 months. Bone defects are sometimes observed several years after endoscope-assisted suturectomy. In syndromic bilat

Robin Sequence: Neonatal Management.

Robin sequence (RS) is defined by the clinical triad of micrognathia, glossoptosis, and airway obstruction. The presence of glossoptosis can also obstruct fusion of the palatal shelves during development, resulting in the characteristic wide U-shaped cleft palate. RS can present in isolation (isolated RS) or in association with a congenital syndrome or other abnormalities (syndromic RS or RS plus). Diagnosis is primarily clinical but can be identified prenatally on ultrasonography or magnetic resonance imaging. Management of RS focuses on improving glossoptosis and relieving airway obstruction
