Mesonephric-like adenocarcinoma (MLA) is a rare gynecologic malignancy primarily arising in the uterine corpus and ovaries. It shares remarkable similarities in its histomorphology, immunophenotype, and molecular features with mesonephric adenocarcinoma of the cervix. Controversy remains regarding whether the MLA originates from the mesonephric or Müllerian ducts. In this study, we retrospectively analyzed the clinicopathologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular characteristics of 9 MLA cases. Among these, we observed 2 unique cases for the first time: 1 case of ovarian MLA coexisting with a

Mesonephric-like adenocarcinoma (MLA) is a newly recognized type of carcinoma that occurs in the uterus and ovaries. MLA exhibits distinct morphological and immunophenotypical features similar to those of mesonephric carcinoma of the cervix or vagina, with the majority of reported tumors containing KRAS mutations. MLA is exceedingly rare and appears to be associated with aggressive clinical behavior. Literature regarding the clinical behavior of MLAs remains limited. Here, we report four additional MLA patients with detailed morphological and immunophenotypical analysis, as well as clinicopath

The presence of ectodermal adnexal structures in the uterine cervix, including sebaceous glands, hair follicles, and sweat glands, has been well documented in the literature. In theory, there exists the possibility of developing cutaneous-type lesions from the ectopic ectodermal structures in this location. Here we report the first case of cervical hair follicle-derived proliferations reminiscent of trichoadenoma, trichoepithelioma, and trichoblastoma (TA/TE/TB) in a 52-year-old woman who underwent a prophylactic hysterectomy due to a germline microphthalmia-associated transcription factor ( M

DICER1 syndrome is a genetic disorder that predisposes individuals to developing a wide variety of neoplasms with different histopathological characteristics across a broad age range. This study presents three clinical cases: a newborn with a chondromesenchymal hamartoma, an adolescent with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the cervix, and a woman with pineoblastoma. In all the tumours, a routine next-generation sequencing (NGS) study detected a mutation in the DICER1 gene, suggestive of germline involvement, which was later confirmed in peripheral blood using Sanger sequencing.

Deciduosis is a benign condition characterised by the transformation of subepithelial connective tissue into decidual-like cells, typically occurring in response to hormonal changes during pregnancy. Although benign, cervical deciduosis may macroscopically resemble malignant lesions, leading to diagnostic uncertainty. This report presents two cases of cervical deciduosis diagnosed in early pregnancy. Both patients presented with first-trimester vaginal bleeding, and speculum examination revealed extensive wart-like lesions covering the cervix. Histopathological examination of cervical biopsies

Cervical cancer is the most common type of cancer in women. The present study aims to establish a reliable model of human cervical cancer microtumours (C-33A) growing on the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) of quail embryos to test the efficacy of anticancer drugs. Cultrex®, an extracellular matrix, was used as a scaffold for C-33A spheroids. Hypericin, a natural perylene quinone, was used in this study as a model photosensitizer for photodiagnosis and photodynamic therapy (PDT). Fluorescence pharmacokinetics were recorded to verify the robustness of the model. The changes in vessel growth param

In females, the paramesonephric (syn: Müllerian) duct gives rise to the uterine tubes, uterus, cervix, and part of the vagina. Segmental uterine aplasia resulting from a paramesonephric duct abnormality has been reported in a range of species including bovids, canids, felids, equids, camelids, and lagomorphs. Here we document segmental aplasia of the left paramesonephric duct in a New Zealand white rabbit. The proximal 70 mm of the left uterine tube was present and terminated in adipose tissue. A 10 × 2 × 1-mm tag of cream tissue was present and was composed of sheets of adipose tissue and str

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: Rhabdomyosarcoma of the female genital tract often involves the vagina and cervix. It usually occurs in infants and children. Such tumors are uncommon in the uterus, especially in adults. Treatment options are based on studies of younger individuals.
ABSTRACT: Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a malignant mesenchymal neoplasm with a tendency to differentiate into skeletal muscle cells. RMS is an aggressive tumor that tends to develop in children and younger patients. A vast majority of genital tract RMSs occur in the vagina and cervix. Such tumors rarely occur in adults. Usually

Mesonephric adenocarcinomas (MAs) and mesonephric-like adenocarcinomas (MLAs) are rare, aggressive neoplasms that arise in the gynecologic tract and show overlapping morphologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular features. While MAs occur in the cervix and are thought to arise from mesonephric remnants, MLAs occur in the endometrium and ovary and are believed to originate from transdifferentiation of Müllerian lesions. Both MAs and MLAs show a variety of architectural patterns, exhibit frequent expression of GATA3 by immunohistochemistry, and harbor KRAS mutations. In a recent article publish

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare form of sarcoma mainly seen in children and adolescents. In the specific case of the cervix, embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma is an extremely rare mesenchymal tumor, accounting for <1 % of all cervical cancers. This highly malignant tumor mainly affects adolescents and young adults.
CASE PRESENTATION: We describe the case of a 29-year-old woman with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the cervix, which manifested as an exophytic cervical mass. Histopathological and immunohistochemical findings confirmed the presence of embryonal rhabdomyos

INTRODUCTION: Cervical cancer management often relies on surgical interventions, among which open total mesometrial resection (TMMR) has gained prominence. This abstract gives an insight into the technique of TMMR in the surgical treatment of cervical cancer. TMMR involves precise dissection of the mesometrium surrounding the cervix, aiming for optimal oncological outcomes while minimizing surgical morbidity.
METHODS OR TECHNIQUE: TMMR entails meticulous dissection of the mesometrium surrounding the cervix, following embryonic planes to ensure complete removal of the primary tumour and associ

Tumors with pathogenic DICER1 mutation are rare and encompass sporadic or hereditary benign, intermediate and malignant tumors. DICER1-associated sarcomas are heterogeneous; however, the prototypical ones in the GYN-tract include embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, adenosarcoma and moderately to poorly differentiated Sertoli-Leydig tumor. In this report, we present three unique uterine sarcomas with DICER1 mutation and remarkable diffuse round/spindle cell morphology. The tumors occurred in cervix (n = 1), and uterine corpus (n = 2). The patient ages were 30, 37 and 59 years with tumor size of 8.8, 10

BACKGROUND: Rhabdomyosarcomas are aggressive tumors that comprise a group of morphologically similar but biologically diverse lesions. Owing to its rarity, Mixed pattern RMS (ARMS and ERMS) constitutes a diagnostic and therapeutic dilemma.
CASE: Herein is presented a very rare case of mixed alveolar & embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in the uterus of a 68-year-old woman. The wall of the uterine corpus & cervix was replaced by multiple whitish-yellow, firm nodules, measuring up to 12 cm. Microscopically, the tumor was predominantly composed of round to polygonal cells arranged in nests with alveolar

The aim of the study was to study robotic cervical radical trachelectomy, aimed at standardizing and optimizing surgical procedures, thereby facilitating the learning process. All surgical procedures were based on the anatomy of the embryonic compartments, which not only help prevent tumor spillage due to disruption of the embryonic compartments, but also maximize the avoidance of inadequate resection margins. Using robotics to perform radical trachelectomy, combined with the concept of membrane anatomy, not only enables a bloodless surgical process, but also streamlines and simplifies the pro

Cervical embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma(ERMS) is a rare malignancy. To date, no cases of ERMS diagnosed by cervical cytology have been reported. In this study, we report a case of cervical ERMS identified by a liquid-based cytology test and cell blocks in a 46-year-old postmenopausal woman. We describe the cytological features of ERMS, with the aim of helping cytopathologists recognize this rare cervical tumor.

Epidermoid cysts are most often benign cystic lesions, with uterine cervical localisation being very unusual. We present the case of a 52-year-old female patient diagnosed with an epidermoid cyst at the level of the uterine cervix. A bioptic and haemostatic uterine curettage was performed, followed by total hysterectomy with bilateral adnexectomy. The histopathologic analysis and immunohistochemical essay of the resection specimens confirmed the cervical epidermoid cyst. The presence of high-risk HPV (human papillomavirus) was only seen in the cervical mucosa. The exact etiopathogenesis is unk

Botryoid sarcoma is a subtype of rhabdomyosarcoma affecting soft tissues and exceptionally the cervix. We here report the case of an 18-year-old female patient presenting to the emergency department with a feeling of pelvic heaviness, metrorrhagia and urinary retention. Gynecological examination showed budding mass of the uterine cervix. The biopsy showed botryoid sarcoma. Radiological evaluation revealed heterodense cervico-isthmic corporeal mass measuring 97 / 87 mm, without adenopathies or effusions or tumors at other sites. Treatment involved neoadjuvant chemotherapy with vincristine - adr

Mesonephric remnants (MRs) are embryonic vestiges most commonly found in female pathology specimens from the lateral wall of the cervix. The highly regulated genetic programme of mesonephric duct development has been well characterised in animals based on traditional surgical castration and knockout mouse experiments. However, the process is incompletely understood in humans. MRs are believed to give rise to mesonephric neoplasms, which are rare tumours with uncertain pathophysiology. There is a dearth of molecular studies on mesonephric neoplasms in part due to their rarity. Here, we report t
