PURPOSE: To describe the clinical and multimodal imaging characteristics of an atypical clinical and imaging presentation of ocular toxoplasmosis.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed six eyes of five immunocompetent patients (including one patient with bilateral involvement), with clinically diagnosed ocular toxoplasmosis. Diagnosis was based on compatible clinical findings, multimodal retinal imaging, positive Toxoplasma gondii serology, and exclusion of alternative infectious etiologies. Intraocular PCR and Goldmann-Witmer coefficient analysis were not available. Clinical presentation, mul

BACKGROUND: Ocular toxoplasmosis (OT) is the leading infectious cause of posterior uveitis worldwide, yet diagnosis remains challenging without a universal gold standard. Although deep learning (DL) shows significant promise for automated image analysis, a rigorous synthesis of its diagnostic accuracy across heterogeneous architectures and datasets is lacking.
METHODS: Following PRISMA-DTA and CLAIM-AI guidelines, we searched major databases through January 2026 for studies evaluating DL models for OT detection using fundus photography. Methodological quality was appraised using QUADAS-2. A b

Uveitis constitutes a heterogeneous group of intraocular inflammatory pathologies, including both infectious and non-infectious aetiologies, often leading to substantial morbidity and permanent loss of vision in up to 20% of the affected cases. Visual impairment is most prominent in intermediate, posterior, or panuveitis and is commonly associated with cystoid macular oedema, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, and retinal detachment. In the context of uveitis, these complications arise as a result of recurrent flare-ups or chronic inflammation, contributing to cumulative ocular damage. Pars

INTRODUCTION: Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) infections affect approximately 30% of the population worldwide. This systematic review of ocular sequelae from toxoplasmosis explores in greater depth the outcomes found in our previous scoping review. Uveitis and ocular lesions can be acute or recurrent following infection and result in long-term and often irreversible effects.
METHODS: We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines and used the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool to evaluate articles for inclusion. Data extraction included the frequency and p

BACKGROUND: Oxidative stress is a central driver of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) degeneration and a defining pathological feature of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Sodium iodate (NaIO3) is widely used to model oxidative injury in RPE cells, yet the molecular checkpoints that determine whether oxidatively stressed RPE cells succumb or survive remain poorly defined. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate whether Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) infection modulates NaIO3-induced oxidative stress and ferroptotic vulnerability in human RPE cells, and to elucidate the role of ferroptos

PURPOSE: To describe an atypical presentation of ocular toxoplasmosis, characterized by dense vitritis and circumferential peripapillary Kyrieleis plaques.
METHOD: Case report.
RESULTS: A 49-year-old healthy man presented with right visual deterioration. He had previously received a short course oral corticosteroid treatment without systemic evaluation. On examination, dense vitritis and peripapillary, near-360 degrees Kyrieleis plaques without any focus of chorioretinitis were noted. Fluorescein angiography showed diffuse posterior pole masking from vitritis and mild late optic disc hyperfl

BACKGROUND: Cerebral toxoplasmosis is a rare but potentially fatal opportunistic infection in non-HIV immunocompromised patients, particularly after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Diagnosis is often delayed due to nonspecific clinical manifestations. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 66-year-old man with myelodysplastic syndrome that had transformed into secondary acute myeloid leukemia. Following remission induction with CPX-351, he underwent allo-HSCT and received ciclosporin A, mycophenolate mofetil, and corticosteroids for graft-versus-host disease prophylaxis
