To gain insight into the sex-determining mechanism of the Siamese fighting fish, Betta splendens, sex-reversed individuals were bred and the ratios of the spawnings were examined. Sex-reversal of 245 females was undertaken by ovariectomizing them; of these, 104 became sex-reversed. Twenty-three of these latter fish were mated to normal females and eleven spawnings were raised to maturity. These spawnings resulted in all female broods or mixed broods. DiGeorge syndrome patients frequently have multiple anomalies of the craniofacial, cardiovascular, and visceral structures in addition to thymic and parathyroid hypoplasia. Gross and microscopic aural abnormalities occurring in a patient with partial DiGeorge syndrome are presented and compared with findings from the only other known temporal bone report.

Among 30 children with hepatic ductular hypoplasia and normal extrahepatic bile ducts, 15 formed a hemogeneous, readily recognizable group. In addition to chronic cholestasis, they have characteristic facies, a mesosystolic murmur, vertebral arch defects, growth retardation, mental retardation, and hypogonadism. Typical biochemical and histologic features aid in differentiation of this group from patients with other varieties of biliary disease.

In a phenotypic (XY karyotype) eunuchoid female aged 24, external genitalia were represented by completely fused underdeveloped scrotolabial folds and a 1-cm-long phallus with phallic urethra. At laparotomy, only rudimentary fallopian tubes and rudimentary wolffian ducts and wolffian body, but no testes, epididymis, uterus or vagina, were found. On four cases we show the clinical symptomatology of the lower ureteral segment by restricting and aberrant vessels. At the same time we pay attention to the right vena ovarica syndrome as an etiological factor of pyelonephritis of pregnancy and to the other vascular anomalies, which cause unilateral ureteral obstructions. A male pseudohermaphrodite white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) is described. The animal shot in Aiken County, South Carolina on November 4, 1971, was 1.5 years old and had the external appearance of an antlered doe. The 6 point antlers were in velvet, a vulva was present, and the testes were located in the body cavity. Other male reproductive organs present were epididymides, vasa deferentia and ampullae. Six alloxan-diabetic male rats with blood glucose levels between 250 and 420% were sacrificed. Their adrenal glands were extracted and studied by Holmes technique and the modified Gross Bielschowsky stain. The ultrastructural findings on the gonad from a patient with testicular feminization syndrome (TFS) are reported. One gonad was the site of dysgerminoma. The other was a dysgenetic testis composed of seminiferoud and Sertoli cell tubules and ovarian cortical stroma-like tissue. Ultrastructurally the tubules were lined by immature Sertoli cells and cells indistinguishable from dark ovarian stromal cells. Similar and/or identical cells were found in the ovarian-like stroma and in the interstitial tissue between the tubules. There were mature and immature Leydig cells in the intertubular areas.

In 14 cases of the Turner syndrome and pure gonadal dysgenesis streak gonads were studied histologically. In cases where the 46,XX line was unimpaired the blood vessels of the gonad showed severe degeneration in at least 30 to 50%. These streak gonads usually contained some of the characteristic ovarian elements as well as the vascular lesions.
