INTRODUCTION: Pulmonary hydatid cysts have always been associated with diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, especially in endemic areas. While surgical resection is the primary treatment for large cysts, bronchoscopy has been used as a potential alternative for selected cases.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: We report a rare case of a 70-year-old diabetic patient with a complex pulmonary hydatid cyst who was successfully managed by bronchoscopy without surgical intervention. The patient presented with a nonproductive cough, and imaging showed a heterogeneous non-cavitated mass with central necrosis.

BACKGROUND: Cystic echinococcosis, or hydatid cystic disease, is a globally prevalent zoonotic infection that typically affects the liver or lungs.
CASE SUMMARY: A 28-year-old man residing in the UAE presented with chronic hemoptysis, melena, and weight loss. Chest radiography revealed multiple bilateral lung nodules, and a subsequent surgical lung biopsy confirmed necrotizing granulomatous inflammation, suggestive of a chronic inflammatory process. Although initially delayed, transthoracic echocardiography detected a cystic mass (2.4 × 2.0 cm) and a solid mass (1.0 × 0.9 cm) on the right ven

Hydatid cyst is a parasitic zoonosis caused by echinococcosis. Liver and lung are the two primarily affected organs. Primary mesenteric hydatid cyst is a rare event, and few cases have been reported globally. In this case report, we present the first documented case, to our knowledge, in Lebanon. The patient was a 49-year-old female who presented for acute worsening of a long-standing abdominal pain. The primary differential diagnosis was an ovarian cyst, for which urgent surgical excision was performed. Histopathological analysis showed a primary mesenteric hydatid cyst, thus providing the fi

Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a neglected tropical parasitic disease linked with significant social and economic burdens worldwide. The scientific community has minimal information on echinococcosis in Romanian people, and hospital medical records are the only sources that may be used to investigate its status. A 7-year retrospective clinical study on pediatric patients with CE from Southeast Romania was performed, and 39 children and adolescents were included, aged 2-15 years old. They were hospitalized with cystic echinococcosis in the Pediatric Department and Pediatric Surgery Department of

Echinococcosis, caused by the tapeworm Echinococcus, is rare in Korea and is primarily imported from endemic areas. We report a case of a 37-year-old Korean man with multiple large hepatic cysts, initially diagnosed as simple cysts at a local clinic in 2018. The patient had lived in Oman, an endemic area, for several months in 2016. Upon referral to a tertiary hospital in 2023, due to progressive cyst enlargement, liver magnetic resonance imaging revealed three large cysts with a water lily sign. Serum IgG against Echinococcus was positive by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. After diagnosis

RATIONALE: Hydatidosis, a larval cestode zoonotic infection caused by Echinococcus granulosus, predominantly affects the liver and lungs. While the disease is well-documented in these common sites, cardiac involvement remains exceedingly rare, with an incidence ranging from 0.02% to 2%. Among the cases of cardiac hydatidosis, cysts located at the apex of the heart are particularly uncommon, accounting for only 5.2% of reported instances.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 43-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with fatigue and dyspnea on exertion. Physical examination was unremarkable, and

Echinococcosis is a severe parasitic zoonosis worldwide distribution, caused by the genus Echinococcus. One of its recently identified species, Echinococcus shiquicus, is believed to be endemic to the Qinghai-Tibet plateau in China. Research has confirmed that Tibetan foxes are the definitive hosts for E. shiquicus, while plateau pikas (Ochotona curzoniae) serve as intermediate hosts. In this study, cyst containing protoscolices was first observed in the lung of plateau zokor (Eospalax baileyi) in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Gannan, Gansu Province, China. This observation was confirme

OBJECTIVE: Echinococcus granulosus causes echinococcosis when its larvae settle in various organs, especially the liver and lung, of humans and herbivorous animals such as sheep and cattle. Echinococcosis are endemic in Mediterranean countries including Türkiye, the Middle East and South Africa. Echinococcosis treatments are generally surgical excision or benzimidazoles. Maggot debridement therapy is a wound treatment with Lucilia sericata larvae. While the larvae consume the old-damaged tissues and bacteria in the wound site, the maggots secrete an antimicrobial fluid. In this study, we aimed

Echinococcus equinus is a parasitic cestode primarily maintained within an equine-canine life cycle, with horses, donkeys, mules, and other ungulates serving as intermediate hosts. Although E. equinus has historically been considered non-zoonotic, recent molecular studies suggest that this assumption may need to be reevaluated. This study aimed to investigate the presence and molecular characterization of E. equinus in equids from Türkiye. A retrospective analysis of 52 equine necropsies performed between 2020 and 2025 identified hydatid cysts in one Arabian horse and two donkeys. Gross and hi
