Intravesical HA/EGF Salvage Therapy for Hyaluronic Acid-Refractory Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome: A Small Retrospective Pilot Case Series.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Some patients with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) remain symptomatic despite prolonged intravesical hyaluronic acid (HA). We report a small retrospective pilot case series evaluating HA plus epidermal growth factor (HA/EGF) as salvage therapy in selected HA-refractory patients. METHODS: HA nonresponders were identified from a multicenter routine-care IC/BPS program. Nonresponse was defined as Global Response Assessment (GRA) < +2 after at least 2 years of HA instillation. Patients electing HA/EGF received eight instillations over 6 months. Ou

First Reported Pediatric Bladder Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor (IMT) Evaluated and Staged with VI-RADS: CT and MR Findings.

INTRODUCTION: Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor (IMT) is a rare intermediate softtissue neoplasm that can arise in virtually any organ, including the urinary bladder. Accurate diagnosis is challenging but crucial, as conservative treatment approaches may be feasible. CASE PRESENTATION: An 11-year-old boy presented with dysuria and microscopic hematuria. Ultrasound and Computed Tomography (CT) revealed a bladder mass associated with right-sided ureterohydronephrosis. Multiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging (mpMRI), performed for local staging using the Vesical Imaging Reporting and Data Sy

A Case of Drug-Induced Cystitis Associated With a Multicomponent Herbal Formulation Involving Yokuinin-To.

Herbal medicines, including traditional Japanese Kampo formulations, are widely used for various conditions. Although generally considered safe, they may cause unexpected adverse events, which are often underrecognized. We report a case of cystitis potentially associated with a traditional Japanese multicomponent herbal formulation. A 77-year-old man presented with dysuria, urinary frequency, and gross hematuria. The patient had been taking a Kampo formulation for 35 days. Laboratory studies showed hematuria without evidence of a urinary tract infection. Computed tomography and cystoscopy reve

Effect of postoperative hormonal therapy on pain following endometriosis surgery: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis is heterogeneous, and evidence for individualised postoperative management is limited. We assessed whether postoperative hormonal therapy exposure is associated with one-year changes in pain domains after first-time endometriosis surgery and explored factors related to treatment allocation. METHODS: Retrospective cohort study (Erlangen, 09/2019-06/2024) of premenopausal women (18-45 years) undergoing first minimally invasive surgery for endometriosis-associated pain with one-year follow-up. Patients were classified into four hormonal therapy (HT) patterns based on ba

Primary signet-ring carcinoma of the urinary bladder: A case report and mini review of literature.

Primary signet ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) of the urinary bladder is an exceptionally rare and aggressive malignancy. We report a case of a 60-year-old man presenting with painless gross hematuria, urinary frequency, and dysuria. Imaging and cystoscopy revealed a bladder lesion, while histopathology demonstrated diffuse signet ring cell infiltration with detrusor muscle invasion, confirming muscle-invasive disease. Extensive investigations, including upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, chest radiography, and prostate biopsy, excluded secondary malignancies. Despite the lack of immunohis

Concurrent Jackstone Calculus and Prostate Cancer: Should They Be Treated Concurrently or Sequentially?

Jackstone calculus is a rare urinary stone morphology with a distinctive spiculated appearance, most often reported in the bladder and usually associated with urinary stasis or outlet obstruction. We report a 70-year-old man with 1 year of progressive dysuria and intermittent interruption of urinary stream despite tamsulosin and finasteride. Urinalysis showed pyuria, hematuria, and bacteriuria. Ultrasonography and pelvic computed tomography identified an irregular star-shaped bladder stone and marked prostatic enlargement, with an estimated prostate volume of approximately 125 mL on ultrasonog

An intrauterine device disappeared for nine years: a rare case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: The intrauterine device (IUD) displacement into the urinary bladder is an exceedingly rare complication. Given its potential to induce bladder irritation, erosion, or perforation, affected patients may present with lower abdominal pain, abdominal distension, and dysuria. As a result, clinical symptoms often prompt timely diagnosis, leading to early detection in the majority of reported cases. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a rare case of IUD displacement into the urinary bladder that remained undiagnosed for nine years. Following her fourth IUD insertion, the patient developed lower

Emphysematous cystitis: imaging patterns and diagnostic approach on CT.

Emphysematous cystitis, also known as 'cystitis emphysematosa,' is a rare complicated urinary tract infection characterized by gas within the bladder wall. Most cases are mild and detected incidentally; however, delayed management can lead to significant morbidity and mortality, particularly when infection extends to the upper urinary tract. With increasing use of cross-sectional imaging, radiologists are encountering this condition more frequently. This pictorial review presents 20 cases of emphysematous cystitis from our institution, illustrating the range of CT imaging patterns and clinical

Primary MiNEN of the urinary bladder with large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma and enteric-type adenocarcinoma: a case report.

Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) is the rarest high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) of the urinary bladder. It can be observed in mixed neuroendocrine/non-neuroendocrine neoplasm (MiNEN), which is predominantly associated with urothelial carcinoma (UC) and less frequently with adenocarcinoma. Here, we report a primary MiNEN of the urinary bladder, composed of LCNEC and enteric-type adenocarcinoma. The patient was a 58-year-old male who initially presented with painless hematuria and dysuria. Transabdominal ultrasonography demonstrated a 4.8 × 2.4 cm hypoechoic lesion arising fr

Prediagnostic Urinary Tract-Related Manifestations and Recurrence Risk in Colorectal Cancer with Bladder Involvement.

Background/Objectives: Colorectal cancer (CRC) with bladder involvement represents a distinct subgroup of locally advanced disease frequently accompanied by urinary tract-related manifestations (UTRMs). However, the clinical relevance of prediagnostic UTRMs in this high-risk population remains unclear. This study investigated the association between UTRMs and oncologic outcomes in patients with bladder-involved CRC. Methods: We conducted a population-based retrospective cohort study using the National Health Insurance Research Database and Catastrophic Illnesses Database (2000-2020). A total o

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor-Induced Ureteritis and Cystitis in Patients With Lung Cancer and Uterine Malignancies: A Case Series and Literature Review.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have demonstrated significant efficacy across various cancers but can cause immune-related adverse events (irAEs). While common irAEs such as dermatitis, pneumonitis, and colitis are well-documented, rare events like cystitis and ureteritis remain underrecognized. We report 3 cases of ICI-induced cystitis and ureteritis. The first case involves a 67-year-old female with lung cancer who developed immune-related cystitis and ureteritis after 3 cycles of pembrolizumab, with recurrence 8 months after discontinuation. Both episodes presented with hematuria, urina

Diffuse Adenomyosis Coexisting with rASRM Stage IV Endometriosis in a Young Woman: Diagnostic Delay and Imaging Discrepancy.

INTRODUCTION: Adenomyosis is increasingly recognized in young women and frequently coexists with endometriosis, suggesting shared pathogenic mechanisms. Delayed recognition of symptoms may contribute to disease progression, while discrepancies between preoperative imaging and intraoperative findings remain a diagnostic challenge. We report a case of diffuse adenomyosis coexisting with revised American Society for Reproductive Medicine (rASRM) stage IV endometriosis, highlighting diagnostic delay and the complementary roles of transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), an

Ultrasound, Retrograde Urethrography, and Computed Tomography Diagnosis of Urinary Bladder Torsion in a Dog After Resection of a Vaginal Mass.

An 11-year-old female Shih Tzu exhibited dysuria after removal of a large vaginal mass. Abdominal ultrasound revealed bilateral hydronephrosis, hydroureter, and urinary bladder (UB) dilation. The urethral opening was located ventral to the UB, cranial to its normal position. The right ureterovesical junction (UVJ) opened on the ventral aspect of the UB, left of the urethral opening; the left ureter coursed abruptly ventrally at the UB level. Retrograde urethrography confirmed the abnormal position of the urethral opening. Computed tomography demonstrated abnormal positioning of the urethral op

Ureteric squamous cell carcinoma in a duplex collecting system presenting with chronic obstructive uropathy: a rare case report.

BACKGROUND: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the ureter is a rare and aggressive malignancy, accounting for 1-1.6% of upper tract urothelial carcinomas. Chronic irritation from long-standing stones, hydronephrosis, or infection can lead to squamous metaplasia and malignant transformation. SCC is often diagnosed late, contributing to a poor prognosis. CASE PRESENTATION: A 57-year-old male, past smoker and farmer by occupation, presented with weakness, weight loss, and dysuria. Urinalysis revealed pyuria and microscopic hematuria. Contrast-enhanced CT demonstrated a duplex left kidney with gros

Right ureterovesical junction cyst associated with ipsilateral renal agenesis: a case report of a possible Wolffian duct maldevelopment.

INTRODUCTION: Right ureterovesical junction cyst associated with ipsilateral renal agenesis is an extremely rare congenital anomaly of the male genitourinary tract, likely resulting from abnormal development of the Wolffian duct and ureteric bud. We report the case of a 35-year-old man with a one-year history of progressive dysuria. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed right renal agenesis and cystic dilatation of the intramural segment of the right ureter protruding into the bladder cavity, with the proximal ureter showing tortuosity and atresia. The contralateral kidney and ur
