Predicting recovery outcomes following mild traumatic brain injury in an Australian community cohort: Results from the Concussion Recovery Study (CREST).

BACKGROUND: Most people recover well following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). However, some experience persisting post-concussion symptoms (PPCS) for months or years. Our aims were (i) to evaluate the presence and impact of PPCS on return to functional activities over a 12-month period; and (ii) identify pre-, peri- and post-injury factors predictive of PPCS in an Australian community-based cohort at 3- and 12-months. METHODS: Adults (18-65 years) with mTBI were assessed by telephone within 7 days post-injury to capture demographics, pre-injury health status, injury circumstances (includ

Burden and Determinants of Urinary Incontinence and Its Quality-of-Life Impact Among Women in Saudi Arabia: A Cross-Sectional Online Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a prevalent yet underreported condition significantly impacting women's quality of life. In Saudi Arabia, cultural stigma often prevents help-seeking, and comprehensive data on its impact are limited. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence and severity of UI among women in Saudi Arabia, identify associated medical and obstetric risk factors, and evaluate its impact on quality of life in order to inform a policy and service framework for integrated, stigma-sensitive care. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 629 adult women across S

A simple approach to identifying community and healthcare locations for hand hygiene interventions during public health emergencies - Uganda, 2020-2022.

BACKGROUND: As part of Uganda's COVID-19 emergency response, two districts along high-volume trucker routes linked to early clusters, Amuru and Tororo, were prioritized for hand hygiene (HH) interventions. While HH is a critical non-pharmaceutical intervention, tools to efficiently identify high-risk community locations during outbreaks are limited. METHODS: We adapted the Population Connectivity Across Borders (PopCAB) tool, developed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to identify and prioritize high-risk community locations and healthcare facilities (HCF) and inform tar

Relationship between 21 Medications and Negative Emotions: A Mendelian Randomization Analysis in Asian Populations.

OBJECTIVE: Negative emotional states, such as nervousness, anxiety, depression, and tension, exert profound detrimental effects on an individual's quality of life and overall health. Although certain widely prescribed medications have been observed to modulate these emotional states, the existing body of research in this domain remains insufficient. To address this gap, Mendelian randomization (MR) methodologies, leveraging large-scale datasets, were employed to investigate the causal relationships between 21 commonly utilized medications and the manifestation of negative emotions. METHODS: T

Risk Factors and the Efficacy of Corrective Interventions for Abnormal Pelvic Floor Muscle Contractions.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) is a prevalent, symptom-driven disorder that escalates with age and significantly impairs women's quality of life. As the first-line treatment for PFD, pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) relies heavily on the patient's ability to execute a correct and isolated pelvic floor muscle contraction (PFMC). Many women inadvertently perform "COMMOV"-defined as contractions involving other muscles (C-O-M) or extraneous movements (MOV)-when attempting PFMC. These compensatory contractions represent the most frequent errors during PFMC efforts. This

Network analysis of depressive and anxiety symptoms in adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Adolescence represents a critical period of vulnerability for the development of mental health disorders. The COVID-19 pandemic has exerted psychological impacts not only on adults but also on adolescents, largely due to various containment and transmission control measures. Identifying these psychological effects and exploring their interrelationships is essential for informing mental health services. The present study aimed to use network analysis to cross-sectionally identify the most central symptoms within the depressive-anxiety symptom network in a sample of adolescents during the pandem

A latent profile analysis and network analysis of comorbidity of depression and anxiety in left-behind adolescents.

BACKGROUND: Depression and anxiety are highly prevalent and often co-occurring mental health issues among adolescents, with comorbidity leading to poorer outcomes and additional challenges. Left-behind adolescents-a unique group experiencing disrupted parent-child relationships and limited social support-may face a higher risk of such comorbidity. Yet, few studies have examined the depression-anxiety network in this population. OBJECTIVE: Latent profile analysis (LPA) identified subgroups with similar symptom patterns, and network analysis visualized the structure of comorbidities. Network co
