Behind the scenes of lying - cognitive and emotional processes revealed by reaction times and self-reports.

While lying is assumed to be cognitively and emotionally demanding, empirical research has primarily focused on cognitive mechanisms. The current study therefore examined cognitive and emotional components of lying simultaneously, using self-reports and reaction times. In two preregistered experiments (n = 49; n = 48), participants conducted a modified version of the Sheffield Lie Test, providing truthful and deceptive responses to neutral and mock-crime-related questions. After each block, participants rated their cognitive and emotional load, as well as specific subprocesses. Results reveale

The peak distress thermometer as a potent prognostic indicator for five-year survival in patients with hypopharyngeal cancer.

BACKGROUND: Hypopharyngeal cancer (HPC) is associated with a poor prognosis, often attributed to advanced staging and physiological frailty. However, the prognostic impact of psychological distress remains under-investigated. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of the NCCN Distress Thermometer (DT) for 5-year survival and identify early mortality predictors through longitudinal monitoring. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 80 patients with newly diagnosed HPC. Baseline and longitudinal DT scores, the NCCN Problem List, and objective physiological markers (BMI, Hemoglobin, CRP

Association of Distress Severity and Problem Burden in Patients With Head and Neck Cancer.

OBJECTIVE: Head and neck cancer (HNC) survivors face heightened psychological distress, but it is unclear how distress severity relates to concerns reported on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Distress Thermometer (DT) problem list. We examined associations between distress levels and problem list endorsement among HNC patients. METHODS: We analyzed data from 507 patients with HNC, and grouped DT scores as: no distress (score = 0, n = 134 (26.4%)), mild distress (score = one to three, n = 141 (27.8%)), and clinically meaningful distress (score = 4-10, n = 232 (45.8%)). Assessing Condition-Specific Adverse Event Profiles of Modafinil for Labelled and Off-Label Uses: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Modafinil is approved for excessive daytime sleepiness in narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), and shift work sleep disorder (SWSD), but its widespread off-label use raises safety concerns. We evaluated the risk of adverse events (AEs) associated with both labelled and off-label use of modafinil. A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane identified 54 studies that met the inclusion criteria. In labelled uses, narcolepsy patients had significantly elevated risks of diarrhoea (risk ratio [RR]: 2.16, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.06-4.41) and nausea compared to those with place

Ammi visnaga (Visnaga daucoides) & Ammi majus as a novel thyrotherapeutic phytoalternative for rat with L-thyroxine-induced hyperthyroidism.

Hyperthyroidism is a worldwide health problem mainly associated with potential health consequences such as heart failure, liver dysfunction, thyroid eye disease, hypercalcemia, hyperglycemia, dehydration & nervousness; moreover, it could turn into emergent thyrotoxicosis. Right now, there are limited options to regress hyperthyroidism, including surgery, ablation, & Thionamides, while each of them is fraught with risk, making the clinical decision very complicated. Thus, finding a sustainable, safe alternative with Thionamides' potency but with no/ limited adverse effects is a distinct clinica
