Predictors of violence against others in non-affective psychosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: The risk of committing violence against others is increased in patients with non-affective psychosis compared to the background population. However, the profile of patients with non-affective psychosis, who commit violence against others, is not fully known. Prior reviews and meta-analyses have included heterogenous psychosis populations and operated with broad definitions of violence. In this study, we narrowed the focus to patients with non-affective psychosis and restricted the definition of violence to physical violence committed against others. METHODS: Following the PRISMA

Can Peer Victimization Invalidate the Positive Effect of Emotional Intelligence on Adolescents' Health-Related Quality of Life?

BACKGROUND: Emotional intelligence (EI) is a key factor in adolescents' health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Previous research has shown that higher EI is associated with better HRQoL outcomes. However, its protective role may be weakened by adverse experiences such as peer victimization. This study examined whether forms of peer victimization moderate the relationship between EI and specific HRQoL dimensions. METHODS: A total of 1427 Spanish adolescents completed a survey-based assessment, including validated measures of victimization (APRI-Bullying), HRQoL (KIDSCREEN-52), and EI (TMMS-24

[Schizophrenia, the clinical triggers of possible acts of hetero-violence].

Episodes of verbal and/or physical violence in schizophrenic subjects are often related to their delusional activity. Among these delusional elements, defensive reactions to experiences of harm, persecution, or hallucinatory commands to commit violent acts are observed. Knowing these patients and their pathology in order to detect and treat the clinical precursors of possible dangerous acts is an essential preventive measure.

Complexity of exposure to mass-casualty conflict and terror stress: A population study following a major civilian targeted event.

OBJECTIVES: The October 7, 2023 events exposed both Israelis, Palestinians, and the entire middle east to unprecedented complex trauma. Guided by theoretical considerations and expert panel discussions, we identified seven distinct exposure domains: missile attacks, physical violence, evacuation, combat participation, hostage involvement, media exposure, and group-based marginalization. We examined actual exposure, that of self and significant others, to these domains alongside subjective stress and major stressful life events. Outcomes included PTSD, depression, anxiety, and somatic symptoms.

Typologies of co-occurring experiences of interpersonal violence among adults in Norwegian sport.

Both research and governing bodies have identified interpersonal violence as a major issue in organized sports. Research from other domains suggests that there are different patterns, or profiles, of interpersonal violence victimization experiences. In the present study, we employed a person-centered approach (i.e. latent profile analysis) on a sample of 1261 adults engaging in organized sports, to assess varying profiles of victimization experiences during the past 12 months. We measured these experiences as sexual violence, physical violence, and psychological violence. Four profiles were id

Delivering an effective violence prevention intervention at scale: testing an alternative delivery model for the Good School Toolkit in Uganda.

Almost no evidence exists on effectively delivering school violence prevention interventions at scale. The Good School Toolkit (GST), developed by Uganda-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) Raising Voices, is an effective whole-school violence prevention intervention when delivered by NGO staff. This study aimed to determine whether GST, delivered via a scalable delivery model using Regional Resource Persons (RRPs), is effective in changing teachers' attitudes towards violence and improving perceptions of school operational culture.A pre-post study was conducted in 95 schools across Ugan

Population-attributable burden of modifiable risk factors for depression and anxiety among reproductive-age women in Nepal.

Identifying the critical modifiable risk factors for anxiety and depression is crucial for reducing the increasing burden of mental illness among reproductive-aged women 15-49 years in Nepal. We investigated Population Attributable Fractions (PAFs) of generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder attributable to potentially modifiable risk factors among reproductive-age women. This cross-sectional study analysed the data from the Nepal Demographic Health Survey in 2022. Multilevel logistic regression analyses determined odds ratio (ORs) for risk factors associated with depression

Anxiety among secondary school students in the war-torn Tigray, Ethiopia, 2024: A call for action.

Adolescents are especially vulnerable to stress and trauma. Exposure to armed conflict significantly raises the risk of anxiety, which often lasts into the post-conflict phase. The war in northern Ethiopia has caused widespread trauma, displacement, and destruction of services. Understanding mental health after conflict is crucial for guiding recovery efforts, informing school-based programs, and shaping local public health priorities. However, data on the prevalence of post-war anxiety among secondary school students in the region is lacking. This study assessed the prevalence and factors ass

Generalized structural equation modeling of intimate partner violence among married women in East Africa using population-based data.

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) remains a persistent public health and social problem among women in Africa, with severe physical, emotional, and sexual consequences that hinder well-being and socio-economic development. Despite ongoing global and regional efforts, evidence on the prevalence and determinants of IPV across East African countries is limited, fragmented, and often focused on single countries. A more comprehensive, regional-level understanding is crucial to guide targeted interventions and policies This study aimed to provide a comprehensive assessment of IPV among married women i

A scoping review of risk determinants for workplace violence in emergency departments.

Workplace violence refers to physical violence, verbal abuse, threats, or other aggressive behaviors directed toward healthcare workers in the workplace. It is a critical occupational and public health hazard, disproportionately affecting emergency departments (EDs) worldwide. This scoping review aimed to synthesize evidence on the prevalence of ED violence and to map its risk determinants through the lens of 'Who, When, and Why'. We conducted a scoping review following PRISMA guidelines, including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method studies on risk determinants for ED violence. PubMed

[Noncooperative, aggressive, and physically violent patients and their relatives].

The willingness of patients to cooperate is essential when it comes to attending appointments, diagnostics and the implementation of treatment measures. If a patient does not cooperate properly, this can have consequences under liability law, but also for the physician's remuneration. In addition, aggressions and verbal as well as physical violence on the part of patients and their relatives are increasing. This prevents the development of mutual trust or destroys it. Under certain conditions, physicians may then refuse or discontinue treatment. The operator of a medical facility can then also

Determinants of domestic violence against women in Cambodia: How digital access, media exposure, motorcycle ownership, and partners' alcohol use matter.

Domestic violence against women remains a public health and socio-economic burden in Cambodia, with only slow declines over the past two decades. This study examined how digital access, media exposure, motorcycle ownership, and partners' alcohol use are associated with intimate partner violence (IPV), defined as the experience of any sexual, physical, or emotional violence by a current or former partner within the past 12 months, adjusted for socio-demographic factors. A cross-sectional analysis of 5,780 weighted women aged 15-49 from the 2021-2022 Cambodia Demographic and Health Survey. IPV w

Prevalence and physicians' perception of workplace violence preventive measures in two Egyptian public hospitals.

BACKGROUND: Type II Workplace violence (WPV), in which the healthcare staff is attacked by the patients or their relatives/friends, is a significant issue in healthcare, impacting healthcare quality, worker safety, and organizational performance. Although studied frequently, further studies are needed in non-university hospital settings and departments other than the emergency. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of physical and verbal type II WPV against physicians, identify the circumstances of the last incidents, and evaluate existing preventive measures from the physicians’ perspec
