Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder caused by excessive blood sugar levels, which leads to severe damage to other organs. Type 2 diabetes is, more often than others, a long-term metabolic disorder in which the body resists insulin or does not produce enough of it. Early diabetes detection with fewer features reduces patient burden, and machine learning makes the process more time-efficient. This study proposes three machine learning approaches that achieve both high performance and effective feature reduction using the Early Stage Diabetes Risk Prediction dataset. Multiple research works

Background/Objectives: While the number and severity of comorbidities affecting survivors of craniopharyngioma (CP) are well documented, little is known about the perspectives of caregivers and survivors regarding treatment priorities. This study aimed to describe the views of caregivers and self-reported survivors on the comorbidities that most significantly impact CP survivors and to identify areas where new treatments are most needed. Methods: Completed surveys of 161 participants recruited in the hypothalamic-pituitary brain tumor patient registry were analyzed. Results: Participants repre

An elderly, spayed female Maltese dog (10 years 3 months, 2.2 kg) presented with hyporexia, weight loss, polydipsia, and a staggering gait. Serum biochemistry analysis revealed increased aspartate aminotransferase, alanine transaminase, ammonia (226 μg/dL), and fasting total bile acids (130 μmol/L). Contrast-enhanced CT showed multiple clusters of contrast enhancement within the hepatic parenchyma; however, discrete shunt vessels could not be clearly identified, and a definitive diagnosis could not be established based on CT alone. Intraoperative jejunal venous portography revealed numerous mi

BACKGROUND: Genetic screening for maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) involves sequencing of the coding regions of known disease-associated genes. We describe the complex and challenging diagnostic journey of a patient with early-onset diabetes with a novel, intronic HNF1A variant likely affecting a branching site. CASE PRESENTATION: The patient was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 10 years after incidental hyperglycemia (HbA1c 8.1%, C-peptide 3.0 μg/dl), without polyuria, polydipsia, or weight loss. Type 1 diabetes associated autoantibodies were negative, but the patient had a st

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) usually presents in the pediatric population as weight loss, polyuria, polydipsia, and, occasionally, with abdominal pain, vomiting, and Kussmaul breathing consistent with diabetic ketoacidosis. In this case report, we describe a 17-year-old boy presenting with fatigue and bilateral blurry vision, found to have hyperglycemia and subsequent DM on a laboratory draw before cataract surgery commenced. This patient also had an added complication of pseudophakic cystic macular edema of both eyes after uncomplicated cataract removal, which has not been described in previ

Acute water intoxication is an uncommon but potentially fatal condition characterized by excessive water consumption over a brief period. It results in dilutional hyponatremia. The condition is frequently associated with psychiatric disorders, endurance athletics, or iatrogenic causes. Early recognition and prompt treatment are crucial for preventing serious complications and ensuring favorable outcomes. A 38-year-old male patient presented to the emergency department exhibiting sudden loss of consciousness followed by altered mental status, confusion, and an episode of seizure. The history re

Hypothalamic obesity (HO) is a severe complication of suprasellar tumors characterized by hyperphagia, rapid weight gain, and resistance to lifestyle interventions. We describe a case of a woman diagnosed with suprasellar germinoma at 16 years of age who was treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Subsequently, she experienced progressive weight gain, increasing from 57 kg to a peak of 138 kg by age 37 years, and developed type 2 diabetes mellitus at age 28 years. At age 38 years, she presented with polydipsia, polyuria, and fatigue, and was admitted for the management of hyperglycemia wit

Classic adipsic vasopressin deficiency features hypotonic polyuria and absent thirst despite hypernatremia. We report a 21-year-old patient with prior resected pilocytic astrocytoma who presented dehydration and hypernatremia of 158 mEq/L (158 mmol/L) (reference range, 135-145 mEq/L [SI: 135-145 mmol/L]). He denied thirst and had no polyuria or polydipsia. Plasma and urinary osmolalities were 317 mOsm/Kg (317 mmol/Kg) (reference range, 282-295 mOsm/Kg [282-295 mmol/Kg]) and 878 mOsm/Kg (878 mmol/Kg) (reference range, 200-1200 mOsm/Kg [200-1200 mmol/Kg]), respectively. Clinical signs associated with liver disease in horses are often a reflection of underlying hepatic dysfunction but typically vague rather than pathognomonic. Many observed clinical signs are subtle or not recognizable in the early stages of liver disease and thus may appear acute in onset despite an underlying chronic condition. Clinical signs reported in horses with liver disease include hyporexia or anorexia, weight loss, changes in demeanor, hepatic encephalopathy, colic signs, icterus, photosensitization, diarrhea, clinical coagulopathies, ascites, peripheral edema, steatorrhea, pruritus,

INTRODUCTION: There is limited data on how veterinarians implement multimodal therapies for managing canine osteoarthritis (OA). The primary aim of this study was to describe how OA is managed by veterinarians with diverse backgrounds. The secondary aim was to report perceived side effects associated with bedinvetmab (LibrelaTM) and grapiprant. The authors hypothesized that variation exists in management patterns among veterinarians with different training backgrounds and experience levels.
METHODS: A cross-sectional, observational, voluntary response survey was distributed to veterinarians a

We present the case of a 47-year-old Moroccan male with no known history of diabetes who presented with new-onset status epilepticus. His family reported a one-year history of increasing lethargy, polyuria, polydipsia, significant weight loss, and polyphagia. Initial laboratory investigations revealed severe hyperglycemia (547 mg/dL), marked ketosis, and profound metabolic acidosis (bicarbonate level of 9 mmol/L), confirming the diagnosis of severe diabetic ketoacidosis. Further investigations, including an elevated HbA1c level (15.2%), positive anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) antibodie

Fulminant type 1 diabetes (FT1D) is a rare immune-related adverse event associated with nivolumab, and its clinical characteristics remain unclear. This study aims to characterize the clinical features of nivolumab-associated FT1D and to generate evidence to inform its diagnosis and prevention. A systematic search of databases was conducted to identify clinical cases of nivolumab-associated FT1D reported through March 31, 2026. Clinical data for the patients were extracted and subjected to statistical analysis. A total of 59 patients were included, with a median age of 59 years (range 22, 87).

Within a 2-year period, 5 adult, single-housed, northern tree shrews (Tupaia belangeri) presented for a range of clinical signs including lethargy, hindlimb lameness, decreased visual acuity, polyuria, and polydipsia. Diagnostic findings, including point-of-care blood glucose and ketone measurements, urine dipstick analysis, insulin, fructosamine, and glycosylated hemoglobin levels, and gross and histopathologic lesions, were consistent with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Although spontaneous diabetes mellitus has been reported in other members of the order Scandentia, to our knowled

BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is among the most rapidly escalating global health crises of the 21st century. Conventional pharmacological management has unnecessary side effects. Therefore, exploring a safe and effective drug to manage T2DM is a foremost priority.
PRIMARY STUDY OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the impact of Survali (Celosia argentea Linn.) seeds as an adjuvant medication in T2DM.
METHODS: Forty participants with T2DM were randomly assigned to test (n=20) and control (n=20) groups in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
INTERVENTION: For 8 weeks, the te

PURPOSE: The diagnostic workup of polyuria-polydipsia syndrome (PPS) is not well-established in children and adolescents, and several non-osmotic copeptin-stimulating agents have been investigated. Glucagon stimulation test (GST) induced a robust copeptin response in adults, but data in children are lacking. This study aimed to investigate copeptin response to GST in children tested for suspected growth hormone (GH) deficiency.
METHODS: Twenty children (9 girls, age 10.3 ± 2.9 years) with no PPS underwent GST (30 µg/kg of glucagon i.m.). Plasma glucose, GH, cortisol, and copeptin were measure
