Persistence of lymphocytic choriomeningitis (LCM) virus in the islets of Langerhans was associated with mild hyperglycemia and abnormal glucose tolerance test results. We examined 178 men for the presence of diabetic retinopathy during 1978-80. A review of the clinical and histological features of pustulosis palmaris et plantaris (PPP) was undertaken. The morphologic development of PPP is biphasic: the first phase consists of an eczematous reaction, and the second phase is the pustulation of eczematous vesicles. PPP may be aggravated by infections or non-infectious inflammatory processes elsewhere in the body. An abnormal glucose tolerance test was found in 55 (66.3%) of 83 patients with PPP. The deranged carbohydrate metabolism may be partly responsible for the increased susceptibility to focal infections in patients with PPP.

56 male violent offenders and 20 male controls from the psychiatric personnel were studied by means of the glucose tolerance test. A prospective study was undertaken to evaluate the use of glycohemoglobin (HbA1) as a screening tool for the detection of gestational diabetes in 90 subjects. At 28 to 30 weeks, these patients had an HbA, determination prior to diabetes screening with a 1-hour serum glucose after 50 gm of oral glucose. A prospective study of the effects of a conjugated estrogen (Premarin, 1.25 mg.) was performed in 36 women over a 1 year period.
