[An unusual intraurethral foreign body: a case report].

In medical literature there are several case reports of foreign bodies introduced into the urethra. Foreign bodies are usually inserted as result of erotic activities, psychiatric disorders and, rarely, in an attempt to evacuate the urine. Diagnosis is based on clinical examination and imaging tests. Endoscopic management is the treatment of choice but, in some cases, open surgery may be necessary. The therapeutic approach should be systematically complemented by a psychiatric assessment of the patient. We report the case a 64-year old man with a personal history of behavioral disorders who in

Management of iatrogenic cystoscopic urethral lesion associated with sequela of cuff erosion in a patient after previous AMS 800 implantation. One-step technique with revision, without cuff explantation.

INTRODUCTION: Iatrogenic urethral lesion with subsequent cuff erosion during cystoscopy is a rare complication. The alternative surgical strategy with in situ urethroplasty while maintaining the open cuff left in situ will be presented. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The authors report 3cases of iatrogenic urethral lesion with cuff erosion during cystoscopic evaluation to exclude stricture or cuff erosion due to new onset of obstructive lower urinary tract symptoms. All patients had a history of a AMS 800 implantation due to posprostatectomy incontinence. Rigid cystoscopy was performed, which revelae

[Infra- and supradiaphragmatic urethral injuries. Acute treatment].

BACKGROUND: Urethral injuries are often caused by pelvic fractures or blunt trauma. Drainage of the urinary bladder is the first step of therapy. RESULTS: Urethral injuries are often caused by pelvic fractures or blunt trauma. Drainage of the urinary bladder is the first step of therapy. Standard procedure is the insertion of a suprapubic stent in stable patients without concomitant open injuries in the pelvis area. Endoscopic realignment is useful in patients with pelvic fracture, vaginal, rectal, or bladder injury, who require open surgery. Delayed repair by stricture excision and open uret

[Urethral Fistula Caused by an Urethrovesical Foreign Body : A Case Report].

A 68-year-old man presented with the chief complaint of swelling of the penis. A pencil had been inserted into his urethra by a commercial sex worker for sexual stimulation. On a computed tomography (CT) scan, a foreign object was visible throughout the urethra and in the urinary bladder. Cystoscopy performed under spinal anesthesia showed a pencil in the urethra. We attempted removing the object endoscopically by using a Holmium laser. However, the endoscopic procedure failed and finally, we removed the object by transvesical open surgery. At the same time, suprapubic cystostomy was performed

Sudden death of a middle-aged man with an artificial vagina in situ.

Artificial vaginas are designed to imitate the female sex organ. This is the first reported case in the forensic literature of a man being pronounced dead with an artificial vagina in situ. A middle-aged man was found unconscious in a bathroom when the door was forced open and was pronounced dead on admission. Autopsy revealed that the penis was inside an artificial vagina. There were no injuries, but there were left ventricular hypertrophy, myocardial fibrosis, and narrow coronaries. The cause of death was ascertained as ischemic heart disease due to coronary atherosclerosis and the comments

Single stage urethroplasty for perineal hypospadias in a horse: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Within the veterinary world, data regarding the surgical management of hypospadias is lacking. Reports within equines have documented resective phallectomy procedures rather than urethral reconstruction. This case report documents the first ever urethroplasty for an equine hypospadias, performed by a consultant paediatric surgeon. The urethroplasty was achieved by applying the same surgical principles mastered from paediatric urology to a horse. The indication for surgery was contact dermatitis of the hind-leg, which impaired the thoroughbred foal's racing potential. OPERATION:

Effectiveness of the combat pelvic protection system in the prevention of genital and urinary tract injuries: An observational study.

BACKGROUND: Historically, the incidence of genital and urinary tract (GU) injuries in major conflicts has been approximately 5%. To mitigate the risk of blast injury to the external genitalia, the United States and United Kingdom issued protective overgarments and undergarments to troops deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These two systems combined constitute the pelvic protection system (PPS). Our hypothesis was that PPS use is associated with a reduction of GU injuries in subjects exposed to dismounted improvised explosive device blast injuries. METHODS: We identified two gr

Posterior urethral stricture repair following trauma and pelvic fracture.

Posterior urethral injuries typically arise in the context of a pelvic fracture. The correct and appropriate initial treatment of associated urethral rupture is critical to the proper healing of the injury. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive review of the literature with special emphasis on the various treatments available: open or endoscopic primary realignment, immediate or delayed urethroplasty after suprapubic cystostomy, and delayed optical urethrotomy.
