Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are a significant cause of morbidity and represent an important public health concern. Cutaneous adverse drug reactions (CADRs) are the most frequently encountered form of ADRs, with antibiotics being among the leading causative drug classes. Although amoxicillin-clavulanate is widely regarded as a safe and commonly prescribed antibiotic, rare and atypical cutaneous reactions may occur and pose diagnostic challenges. We report a rare case of amoxicillin-clavulanate-induced pityriasis rosea in a 34-year-old male who presented with a progressive pruritic and painful

We present the case of a seven-year-old fully immunized male who developed an intensely pruritic, generalized maculopapular rash that progressed to vesicles. The patient's rash was initially diagnosed by his primary care provider as possible scabies and treated with topical permethrin. Our examination revealed a diffuse maculopapular and vesicular exanthem with lesions at various stages of evolution, eventually progressing to secondary cellulitis. The patient's presentation, consistent with varicella (chickenpox), highlights the diagnostic challenges of breakthrough varicella infection and pot

Background: Parasitic skin-related conditions represent a frequent and evolving challenge in human dermatology, as they often mimic other dermatoses, and are increasingly complicated by therapeutic resistance. With this study, we aimed to provide a practical, clinician-oriented overview of our experience, contextualising it within the current literature. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective, single-centre observational study, reporting a case series of 88 patients diagnosed with parasitic or arthropod-related skin infestations at the San Raffaele Hospital Dermatology Unit (Milan

BACKGROUND: Skin-related neglected tropical diseases (skin NTDs) remain a major source of morbidity in resource-limited settings. These conditions include Buruli ulcer, chromoblastomycosis and other deep mycoses, cutaneous leishmaniasis, post-kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis, leprosy, lymphatic filariasis, mycetoma, noma, onchocerciasis, scabies, tungiasis, and yaws. Recent efforts have focused on developing training materials to help frontline health workers diagnose and treat skin NTDs. However, little is known about how these materials are perceived and utilized in endemic regions. We perform

Neglected tropical skin diseases (SNTDs) include at least nine conditions affecting more than one billion people worldwide. While their physical manifestations have been studied in detail, the mental health consequences are highly under-researched and underreported, often limited to specific conditions. This article summarizes existing literature on mental health aspects of individual SNTDs ranging from depression, anxiety, stigma, social isolation, post-traumatic stress disorder, epilepsy, and developmental impacts on growing children. While evidence is more for leprosy, lymphatic filariasis,

A 27-aa peptide coding sequence NLP27 was moderately overexpressed in potato, conferring enhancing plant resistance to Phytophthora infestans and Streptomyces scabies infection without yield penalty through plant immunity promotion. The conserved short peptides derived from pathogen effectors can stimulate plant innate immunity response against pathogens through exogenous application. However, it remains to be explored whether the ectopic expression of these peptides in plants can trigger plant defense responses and affect plant growth. Here, we modified the nucleotide sequence of conserved 27

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, pruritic inflammatory skin condition with a complex pathogenesis and variable clinical presentation, often overlapping with other dermatologic diseases. This article considers the differential diagnoses for AD, emphasizing the importance of accurately distinguishing it from both common and rare conditions. Among inflammatory dermatoses, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, allergic and irritant contact dermatitis, lichen simplex chronicus, and pityriasis rosea share overlapping features but can be differentiated based on history, distribution, and morphology.

BACKGROUND: Yaws is one of the skin-related neglected tropical disease (skin NTD). It is closely linked to poverty and occurs mainly in poor communities in hot, humid, tropical regions. Children in disadvantaged communities in the tropics are most affected. Following the recommendations of the WHO NTD Road map 2021-2030, Côte d'Ivoire planned an evaluation (clinical and serological investigation) to assess the true extent of yaws in the country. Côte d'Ivoire is one of the nine countries currently endemic for yaws in the WHO African Region. The aim of this investigation was to establish the en

Scabies is a highly transmissible disease caused by the mite, Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis . Although any age group can be affected, it is common in children. Infestation by the mite usually leads to itching, which can be very disabling with effects on sleep, concentration, and other daily activities. In addition, secondary bacterial skin infections (e.g., impetigo) are common. Treatment options include 5% permethrin cream and oral ivermectin. In small community-based trials, mass drug administration of ivermectin has been shown to substantially decrease the prevalence of both scabies and se

BACKGROUND: Polycrisis refers to interacting social, economic, environmental, institutional, cultural, political, and health-system crises that amplify one another. In Indigenous children and adolescents, dermatological diseases may indicate not only a clinical skin condition but also overlapping vulnerabilities involving housing, water and sanitation, nutrition, environmental exposure, territorial disruption, discrimination, and barriers to culturally safe care.
AIMS: To map evidence on how polycrisis is related to dermatological diseases among Indigenous children and adolescents, and to des

Working definitions of a sexually transmitted infection (STI) exist, but no universally agreed operational classification links those definitions to programme, funding, and surveillance decisions. The boundary of the STI category determines which infections enter surveillance, receive programme funding, and are included in testing and screening. Yet, the fields of microbiology, clinical medicine, and public health each define this boundary differently. Contested conditions, including bacterial vaginosis, vulvovaginal candidiasis, scabies, mpox, and sexually transmissible enteric pathogens, exp

Anthropogenic climate change has intensified the frequency of catastrophic flooding, contributing to a complex array of public health challenges. Although acute trauma dominates the initial response, the post-disaster dermatological burden remains an under-reported driver of morbidity. This systematic review characterizes the pathophysiology of flood-associated dermatoses into three clinical categories: water-contact injuries, displacement-related conditions, and environmental aeroallergen-induced exacerbations. We conducted a systematic, mechanistic synthesis of 12 epidemiological studies (in

OBJECTIVES: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) has been defined as a systemic, chronic, inflammatory arthritis, usually seronegative for rheumatoid factor (RF), associated with cutaneous psoriasis. The exact prevalence of PsA is unknown and its estimation has been difficult, partly due to the lack of a widely accepted classification criteria. Agreed and validated criteria will facilitate comparison between centres and different countries in the areas of epidemiology, outcome studies and therapeutic trials. A number of classification criteria have been published by Moll & Wright (M & W), Bennett's, Vase

INTRODUCTION: Dermatoses that develop in children often differ from similar pathologies in adults. One of the interesting and ongoing subjects of study for pediatric dermatology is pathologies of the skin of the palmoplantar areas. Rashes in the acral area may be part of a widespread rash, or a pathology specifically expressed only in the acral area. Similar problems in pediatric dermatological practice are determined by a wide range of etiological factors.
AIM: The aim of the study was to identify the characteristic clinical features of palmoplantar dermatoses in children in relation to age
