Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Caused by a Juxta-articular Myxoma: A Case Report.

Juxta-articular myxoma (JAM) is a rare soft tissue tumour predominantly composed of mucinous tissue and usually found around large joints. We report a 73-year-old woman with a 5-year history of a soft tissue mass in the thenar eminence of the right wrist who presented to our department. An initial diagnosis of a ganglion cyst was made using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and the jellied content of the mass by aspiration. Two years after presentation, surgical treatment with tumour resection and carpal tunnel release via the radial approach was performed because the symptoms of carpal tunnel

Median Nerve Shear Wave Elastography Is Associated With the Neurophysiological Severity of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

OBJECTIVES: This study examines the associations between the median nerve (MN) shear wave elastography (SWE), the MN cross-sectional area (CSA), patient's symptoms, and the neurophysiological severity of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). The most appropriate site to perform SWE was also tested. METHODS: This prospective study comprised 86 wrists of 47 consecutive patients who volunteered for MN ultrasound after an electrodiagnostic study. The neurophysiological severity of CTS was assessed according to the results of a nerve conduction study (NCS). The MN CSA was measured at the carpal tunnel inl

Steroid versus placebo injections and wrist splints in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome: a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

A network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials compared the effectiveness of corticosteroid injections with placebo injections and wrist splints for carpal tunnel syndrome, focusing on symptom relief and median nerve conduction velocity. Within 3 months of the corticosteroid injection, there was a modest statistically significant difference in symptom relief compared to placebo injections and wrist splints, as measured by the Symptom Severity Subscore of the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire; however, this did not meet the minimum clinically important difference. Pain reduction with

The effects of virtual reality-mediated tendon and nerve gliding exercises in the conservative management of carpal tunnel syndrome: a double-blind randomized placebo controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common condition resulting from compression of the median nerve at the wrist. First-line treatment typically involves conservative management, which commonly includes splinting and gliding exercises. Emerging evidence suggests the potential benefits of using virtual reality (VR) in rehabilitation. AIM: This study aimed to assess the effects of VR-mediated tendon and nerve gliding exercises on the conservative treatment of CTS, compared to video-assisted (sham virtual) and home-based gliding exercises. DESIGN: This study was a prospective, double-

Carpal tunnel syndrome.

Median neuropathy at the wrist, commonly referred to as carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), is the most common entrapment neuropathy. It is caused by chronic compression of the median nerve at the wrist within the space-limited carpal tunnel. Risk factors that contribute to the etiology of compression include female gender, obesity, work-related factors, and underlying medical conditions, such as hypothyroidism, pregnancy, and amyloidosis. The diagnosis is made on clinical grounds, although these can be confounded by anatomical variations. Electrodiagnostic studies, which are specific and sensitive
