BACKGROUND: Skeletal muscle mass and quality are critical determinants of outcomes in hip fracture patients. However, most prior studies have relied on 2D cross-sectional area measurements, which may not accurately reflect the complex 3D muscle distribution. This study aimed to quantify 3D thigh muscle volume and intramuscular adipose tissue (IMAT) in a large elderly East Asian hip fracture cohort using an AI-assisted segmentation pipeline.
METHODS: A total of 1,287 patients from a multi-center hip fracture cohort were included. Preoperative whole-thigh CT scans were analyzed using a validate

BACKGROUND The Masquelet induced membrane technique is a 2-stage surgical procedure used to reconstruct large bone defects and uses a temporary cement spacer to generate a biologically active, vascularized membrane that promotes bone healing when filled with an autograft. This report describes the case of a 37-year-old military man with a high-energy femoral fracture, multiple debridement procedures, and a bone defect managed with the Masquelet induced membrane technique. CASE REPORT In the patient's home country, life-saving surgery was performed, followed by repeated excision of damaged tiss

BACKGROUND: Hip instability after total hip arthroplasty (THA), while uncommon, is a leading cause for revision. The purpose of the study was to quantify the risk of recurrent hip dislocation in relation to concordance of dislocation directionality and surgical approach.
METHODS: Included patients underwent anterior-based or posterior-based elective primary THA and sustained at least one dislocation treated at a single institution. Surgical approach, timing, direction, and management of dislocations, including closed reduction and reoperation, were obtained. Concordance was defined as disloca

BACKGROUND: Hip dysplasia is a well-established cause of hip dysfunction and secondary osteoarthritis in young adults. Periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) is a common surgical treatment for symptomatic acetabular dysplasia. Recent awareness of concomitant impingement in dysplastic hips has led to inclusion of osteochondroplasty (OCP) for femoral head-neck abnormalities in select cases to improve survivorship and clinical outcomes.
PURPOSE: To compare outcomes, reoperation rates, radiography, survivorship, and complications at a mean of 10 years after PAO with and without femoral head-neck OCP.

BACKGROUND: The Morel-Lavallée lesion (MLL) is a closed soft tissue avulsion injury resulting from shear force trauma. Chronic Morel-Lavallée lesions present significant management challenges due to the formation of fibrous caps, persistent fluid accumulation, and a tendency for recurrence. Nevertheless, the pathogenesis and imaging characteristics of these lesions remain poorly understood.
METHODS: This study presents a case of a chronic Morel-Lavallée lesion located in the right hip, with a disease progression lasting over 10 years. The MRI characteristics of the lesion were compared across

Bone stress injuries (BSIs) are common among high-performance athletes and military trainees. BSIs typically present with point tenderness, loading pain, and nighttime discomfort, and most involve only one or two bones, with clinical symptoms roughly proportional to the degree of osseous injury. We present the case of a 19-year-old male engaged in high-intensity Air Force Special Warfare training who initially presented with vague low back, thigh, and foot pain and was ultimately diagnosed with diffuse multifocal grade 3 and 4a BSIs involving numerous bones of the bilateral lower extremities.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) restores passive joint stability, yet athletes who meet strength benchmarks may still land stiffly, hesitate to push off, and re-injure. Muscle stiffness governs how rapidly force is transmitted to the joint, and shear wave elastography (SWE) quantifies it muscle by muscle, but SWE findings after ACLR have not been synthesized.
METHODS: Scopus, PubMed, SPORTDiscus, and CINAHL were searched through November 2025 following PRISMA 2020. Eligible studies compared SWE-derived lower-extremity muscle stiffness after ACLR with contralateral

INTRODUCTION: Dynamic hip screw (DHS) and proximal femoral nail (PFN) are both used to fix extracapsular proximal femoral fractures, with implant selection in routine practice typically guided by fracture morphology. This study describes perioperative outcomes and the pattern of implant selection in older adults treated at a single UK trauma centre.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This single-centre retrospective descriptive study included all eligible patients aged 65 years or older undergoing fixation of extracapsular proximal femoral fractures during the 12-month study period (1 January to 31 Decem

INTRODUCTION: Perineal complications-including nerve injury (eg, pudendal neurapraxia), soft tissue injury and sexual or urinary dysfunction-are well-documented adverse effects of conventional hip arthroscopy using a perineal post. Postless hip arthroscopy avoids direct perineal pressure, but high-quality randomised evidence is lacking.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This multicentre, prospective, parallel-group, randomised controlled trial will enrol 270 patients aged 15-60 years with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome requiring hip arthroscopy. Participants will be randomised 1:1 via a centralise

BACKGROUND: Locking plates (LP) are commonly used to treat distal femur fracture. Far cortical locking (FCL) screws are designed to increase axial motion at the fracture site resulting in more callus formation in animal study. In our previous study, progress to healing was assessed. There were statistically significant differences in modified RUST score postoperatively with higher scores in the FCL group. However, the amount of callus formed was not quantitatively measured. The purpose of this study is to quantitatively assess the medial callus area (mm2) and changes in callus area over time i

Arthroplasty plays a crucial role in the management of both acute fractures and failed fracture surgeries around the hip, particularly in the aging population. It is important to explore the indications, benefits, and challenges of total hip arthroplasty in various clinical scenarios, including geriatric acetabular fractures, proximal femur fractures, and cases of failed hip fracture surgery. Acute total hip arthroplasty is increasingly recognized as a viable alternative to open reduction and internal fixation in elderly patients with poor bone quality or preexisting arthritis. When treating p

Periprosthetic fractures necessitate a multidisciplinary approach because of their complexity, requiring an in-depth understanding of epidemiology, classification systems, diagnostic strategies, and advanced treatment options. The management of periprosthetic femur fractures depends on factors such as implant stability, bone quality, and fracture pattern, influencing decisions regarding open reduction and internal fixation versus revision total hip arthroplasty. With advancements in implant technology and surgical techniques, optimizing fixation constructs to allow early weight bearing has bec

BACKGROUND: Periacetabular osteotomy (PAO), concomitant with hip arthroscopy, used as treatment for symptomatic hip acetabular dysplasia, has shown favorable outcomes at midterm follow-up. However, limited literature has evaluated outcomes and return to sport (RTS) rates in athletes with concomitant PAO and hip arthroscopy.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to analyze functional outcomes and RTS rates of athletes who underwent PAO with concomitant hip arthroscopy for symptomatic hip dysplasia with a minimum 5-year follow-up. It was hypothesized that athletes undergoing PAO wit
