RATIONALE: The objective of the present study was to evaluate the accuracy, effectiveness, and safety of screw view model of navigation (SVMN) guided minimal invasive percutaneous pelvic screws (PPSs) insertion for lateral compression pelvic ring injuries (PRI).

Pediatric pelvic fractures are rare and differ from adults in etiology, fracture type, and associated injuries. They are observed in multitrauma patients, with severe associated injuries. Treatment of these children in specialized hospitals is likely to provide the best outcome because of the rarity of these fractures. Approximately 3% of all joint dislocations involve the hip joint, and only 8-10% of these will be anterior. Traumatic anterior open dislocation of the hip is rare in children and prone to be associated with injuries, extensive soft tissue damage, and avascular necrosis of the femoral head. Emergency treatment of amputation is one of the most frequently used therapeutic methods for patients with severe upper limb crush injury with a mangled extremity severity score (MESS) of more than 7. With the development of advanced surgical repair techniques and reconstructive technology, cases that once required amputation can now be salvaged with appropriate management, and some limb functions may also be reserved. BACKGROUND: Femoral head fractures with subchondral impaction and cartilage loss are difficult to treat successfully. Although multiple surgical management options have been described, no one technique has proven superior, particularly in the young high-demand population.
TECHNIQUE: A femoral head reduction osteoplasty was performed following a surgical dislocation of the hip. A peripherally based wedge of bone was resected off the damaged central third of the head followed by reduction and fixation of the remaining fragments. This technique resulted in a smaller yet congruent femoral head.

Sciatic nerve palsy is a well-recognised complication of total hip arthroplasty, and causes include direct injury during surgery (crushing or electrocautery), compression or stretching of the nerve, thermal damage caused by leaked bone cement, trauma during dislocation or reduction of the hip, haematoma, traction caused by leg lengthening or inadvertent intraneural injection from nerve blocks. We describe what we believe to be a case of sciatic nerve ischemia due to intra-operative arterial occlusion, and we discuss the vascular anatomy which may have contributed.

METHODS: From May 12 to May 26, 2008, 11 injured persons in Wenchuan earthquake with massive haemorrhage from large wound due to crush syndrome were treated, including 6 males and 5 females aged 16-36 years old (average 21 years old).
