The diagnosis and treatment of patients with mendelian susceptibility to mycobacterial disease (MSMD) pose consistent challenges due to the diverse infection spectrum observed in this population. Common clinical manifestations include Bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccine (BCG) complications in countries where routine BCG vaccination is practiced, while in non-BCG-vaccinating countries, Non-Tuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM) is prevalent. In tuberculosis-endemic regions, Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) has a high prevalence, along with other intracellular organisms. Isolating these organisms presents

Erythema multiforme (EM) is an immune-mediated mucocutaneous condition characterized by hypersensitivity reactions to antigenic stimuli from infectious agents and certain drugs. The most commonly implicated infectious agents associated with EM include herpes simplex virus (HSV) and Mycoplasma pneumoniae. Other infectious diseases reported to trigger EM include human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and several opportunistic infections. However, studies focusing on EM and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection are scarce. even though the incidence of EM among HIV-infected individual

Diabetes Mellitus presents a formidable challenge as one of the most prevalent and complex chronic diseases, exerting significant strain on both patients and the world economy. It is recognized as a common comorbidity among severely ill individuals, often leading to a myriad of micro- and macro-vascular complications. Despite extensive research dissecting the pathophysiology and molecular mechanisms underlying vascular complications of diabetes, relatively little attention has been paid to potential lung-related complications. This review aims to illuminate the impact of diabetes on prevalent

Laparoscopic surgery has become a widely accepted standard of care for numerous procedures in the modern world. Nearly every major surgical procedure previously only possible by employing open techniques may now be completed laparoscopically, attributable to the quick advancement of technology and surgeons' abilities. There are several complications associated with the laparoscopic port site, either infective, non-infective, or neoplastic. This study aims to explore the morbidity associated with the port site following laparoscopic surgery and discuss the risk factors for complications. The um

Fibrocalculous pancreatic diabetes (FCPD) mellitus is a distinct type of diabetes that arises from chronic calcification of the pancreas in young, nonalcoholic individuals, predominantly in tropical regions. The characteristic triad of FCPD includes diabetes, abdominal pain, and steatorrhea. Additional notable features of the disease are its early age of onset, the presence of large intraductal stones, rapid disease progression, and a heightened risk of developing pancreatic cancer. Tuberculosis (TB) is a health concern worldwide and is responsible for a major health burden in developing count

BACKGROUND: Histoplasmosis is a systemic mycosis caused by the agent Histoplasma capsulatum. Its clinical manifestations depend on the inhaled fungal load and can vary from an asymptomatic infection (90%) to a disseminated disease, especially in HIV infections and a CD4 T lymphocyte count of less than 150 cells. Its initial symptoms are nonspecific, including fever, weight loss, dry cough, and chest pain. It spreads to other organs, with the skin being a rare site where lesions of wide polymorphism are observed. The disseminated form requires a high index of suspicion and must be differentiate

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). Disseminated TB can cause various types of complications. Extrapulmonary TB includes TB meningitis, abdominal TB, skeletal TB, Pott's disease (spine), scrofula, and genitourinary TB. In particular, TB meningitis is a lethal complication of TB with a high mortality rate. The patient was an 84-year-old Japanese man with a history of tuberculous pleurisy during childhood who presented with fever and altered mental status. Eight months prior, the patient was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and treated w

BACKGROUND: Constrictive pericarditis (CP) can arise from various causes, including post-operative degeneration, tuberculosis, and sequelae of pericarditis. Immunoglobulin (Ig) G4-related disease is a rare but recognized cause of CP. However, the specific mechanisms underlying these aetiologies and pathologies remain unclear.
CASE SUMMARY: A 67-year-old man presented with a 6-month history of bilateral leg oedema, anorexia, and dyspnoea on exertion. Computed tomography (CT) revealed significant pericardial thickening without calcification, right pleural effusion, and ascites. Echocardiography

Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) has received less attention than pulmonary tuberculosis due to its non-contagious nature. EPTB can affect any organ and is more prevalent in people living with HIV. Low- and middle-income countries are now facing the double burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and HIV, complicating the management of patients with symptoms that could be compatible with both EPTB and NCDs. Little is known about the risk of death of patients presenting with symptoms compatible with EPTB. We included patients with a clinical suspicion of EPTB from a tertiary level hospital

OBJECTIVE: To assess the risk of developing pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in accordance with prior history of COVID-19 infection.
BACKGROUND: Since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic much discussion has been had on the possible role it might play on global efforts to combat TB; most, focusing on the pandemic's impact on health care systems' capabilities to manage TB cases. Mechanisms have also been proposed by which the COVID-19 infection may directly affect individuals' chance of developing TB infection. Cases have been reported with a history of COVID-19 infection preceding a diagnosis of TB

This review focuses on inflammatory diseases of female and male genital organs and discusses their epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, and imaging findings. The female section covers pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) primarily caused by sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that affect the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. Unusual causes such as actinomycosis and tuberculosis have also been explored. The male section delves into infections affecting the vas deferens, epididymis, testes, prostate, and seminal vesicles. Uncommon causes such as tuberculosis, and Zinner syndrom

Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious infection that can involve any organ system and present in various forms. About one-third of the world's population are carriers of latent TB. Although most cases are from a pulmonary origin, there is a rising prevalence of abdominal TB. Patients with pulmonary or extrapulmonary TB are treated similarly through the use of pharmacological therapy. Nonspecific clinical manifestations of TB have made it difficult for clinicians to diagnose. Peritoneal tuberculosis (PTB) is a serious concern as its symptoms overlap with that of many other chronic conditions, especial

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis is a highly prevalent disease in India, while Histoplasmosis, an emerging disease, is often underreported due to limited resources in developing countries. Coinfection with both these organisms is rarely documented in immunocompetent host. Due to overlapping symptoms, it can be easily missed and treatment delays are not uncommon.
CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we report a case of a 62-year-old male with a chronic history of intermittent fever and dry cough, splenomegaly, lymphadenopathy, and persistent pancytopenia. He was diagnosed with tuberculosis with cartridge-based nu

Amyloidosis is a group of disorders with extracellular accumulation of autologous fibrillary insoluble proteins in various tissues and organs such as the kidneys, liver, spleen, heart, and gastrointestinal tract leading to impaired function. Renal amyloidosis is usually considered to be a progressive disease manifesting as nephrotic syndrome and renal insufficiency with tuberculosis being one of the most common causes in adults. However, the occurrence of similar associations is rarely described in children. We report a case of an 11-year old girl who presented with nephrotic syndrome and pulm

Atypical mycobacterium infections are an uncommon cause of cutaneous infection, and they are especially rare infections of the facial region. Immunocompromised patients, such as transplant patients, are at higher risk for infections of this nature with concurrent hematogenous spread to other organ systems. We report a patient with a previous heart transplant who developed an atypical mycobacterium infection of the skin with possible dissemination to the lung. The case outlines the difficulty in diagnosing this condition along with the challenges of prescribing an effective drug regimen to trea

BACKGROUND: The Covid-19 pandemic caused a negative impact on other infectious diseases control, prevention, and treatment. Consequently, low and middle-income countries suffer from other endemic diseases, such as tuberculosis. This study was designed to compare Covid-19 manifestations and outcomes between patients with previously treated tuberculosis and controls without this condition.
METHODS: We performed a matched case-control study drawn from the Brazilian Covid-19 Registry data, including in-hospital patients aged 18 and over with laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 from March 1, 2020, to Ma

INTRODUCTION: The lungs are most commonly involved in tuberculosis, but infection can also involve other organs through lymphohematogenous dissemination. The clinical presentation of disseminated tuberculosis is variable. Diagnosis is difficult, because clinical manifestations are diverse, more than 50% of patients present late, because microbiological testing relies on invasive procedures for mycobacterial culture and supportive histopathology.
CASE REPORT: A 30-year-old male patient, deprived of his liberty, with no co-morbidities, was admitted to the hospital for severe pain in the left wr

Tuberculosis, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is a widely spread disease complex affecting multiple organs. It is a type of communicable disease disproportionately affecting low and middle-income countries. The imaging modality of choice for pulmonary tuberculosis is computed tomography, and for brain lesions, it is a contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging study. This report presents the case of a 73-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with tuberculosis on radiography and was started anti-tubercular treatment for the same and later developed multiple tuberculomas. This report s
