A simple constitutive framework for thinning-thickening transitions in dense granular-fluid mixtures.

INTRODUCTION: Corneal foreign bodies are reported to be the second most common type of ocular injury. Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) is a valuable tool for the early diagnosis and monitoring the progress of treatment in cases of ocular trauma. Herein we aimed to report on a patient with an intra-corneal foreign body and the role of AS-OCT in management. CASE PRESENTATION: A 34-year-old male presented with foreign body sensation in his left eye. Slit-lamp biomicroscopic examination revealed a peripherally located intrastromally embedded foreign body with a free anterior

Abdominal fat graft migration into bulbar subconjunctival space after midface fat transfer: a case report.

A 69-year-old woman presented with a localized bulbar conjunctival lesion with associated inflammation. The lesion and inflammation were refractory to topical corticosteroid therapy. Her history was significant for cosmetic lower eyelid blepharoplasty with abdominal fat transfer to the midface. Surgical excision and histopathologic analysis revealed a foreign body-type granulomatous inflammatory reaction to lipid material, consistent with migrated corporal fat. This case outlines a rare complication of fat transfer to the periocular region.

Delayed Corneal Endothelial Cell Loss Following CyPass Stent Insertion: A Case Report.

We report a case of delayed corneal endothelial cell loss (CECL) following CyPass® stenting in a 71-year-old female with normal-tension glaucoma. CECL is a known complication of the CyPass® stent, which resulted in its withdrawal from the market in 2018; however, the mechanism for CECL is often attributed to mechanical endothelial disruption from poorly positioned stents. In this case, our patient suffered around a 40% CECL, which first started five years following stent implantation and responded well to ripasudil therapy. This occurred despite it being optimally positioned, prompting an alte

Filarial Worm Infestation of the Nasolacrimal Duct: A Rare Orbital Presentation.

Filarial infestation of the nasolacrimal duct is exceptionally rare and often misdiagnosed as benign lacrimal pathology. We present a 12-year-old boy with progressive medial canthal swelling initially suspected to be a dermoid cyst or inflammatory lesion. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a well-defined enhancing lesion at the nasolacrimal duct with preseptal edema. Histopathology demonstrated a parasite with a thick eosinophilic cuticular wall and inflammatory infiltrate rich in eosinophils and foreign-body giant cells, consistent with filarial infestation, possibly Onchocerca species. Well-Tolerated Intracorneal Wood Foreign Body of 25-Year Duration.

Intracorneal foreign bodies that persist for a long time are rare. This report presents an unusual case of a foreign body retained in the cornea for over 25 years. The patient, a 42-year-old woman, had a history of ocular trauma caused by a wooden stick. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy of her right eye revealed a 1.5 mm-long intracorneal foreign body extending through Descemet's membrane into the anterior chamber. Since the foreign body was asymptomatic, the patient was monitored, and follow-up examinations at 6 and 12 months showed no changes. This case challenges the conventional understanding that

Automated dual-camera DMD system for stereo optical sectioning imaging.

We present a compact, automated, stereo-optical-sectioning imaging system for clinical assessment of the anterior segment, using a digital micromirror device (DMD) as a spatial light modulator. The platform synchronizes two CMOS cameras with the DMD, which projects programmable slit beams to produce depth-resolved cross-sectional views of the anterior eye. By adjusting the micromirror activation time, the system can also extend the dynamic range of the acquired images, accommodating both dim (e.g., the cornea) and highly reflective regions (i.e., the iris). In a pilot study, the prototype inst

Genome-wide association of flowering phenology stages in olive trees (Olea europaea L.): new insights from BLUPs and genotype × environment responses.

BACKGROUND: Fractures of the distal femur present significant challenges in orthopaedic trauma due to their complex anatomy, biomechanical demands, and potential complications such as malunion, non union, and stiffness. These fractures, though relatively rare (accounting for 6-7% of femur fractures), are associated with high morbidity, particularly in elderly osteoporotic patients and younger individuals with high-energy trauma. This study evaluates the role of multi lock retrograde intramedullary nailing-a minimally invasive fixation method-in the management of these fractures, focusing on fu
