Both simultaneous monitoring of multiple antibiotic residues for public health security and accurate single-analyte quantification for regulatory compliance are critically important, though the former remains challenging due to structural diversity among analytes. Herein, we constructed a four-channel fluorescent sensor array based on siloxane-derived porous polymers for discriminative detection of 12 antibiotics spanning four categories (chloramphenicols, nitrofurans, nitroimidazoles, and tetracyclines), and further achieved discrimination of 6 antibiotics in real milk samples at lower concen

Multiple CuNCs with modulable spectra were obtained by selecting nucleoside molecules as ligands. C-series CuNCs showed strong and discrepant emission intensities which were selected as the recognition elements of a three-channel fluorescent sensor array after surface modification with SH-β-cyclodextrin. Leveraging differences in host-guest recognition between various tetracyclines and the β-cyclodextrin cavity, the array generated distinct fluorescence response fingerprint patterns, enabling high-throughput discrimination of six structurally similar tetracycline antibiotics at different conce

Elevated levels of tetracycline antibiotics (TCs) in animal-derived foods threaten human health, necessitating effective residue monitoring. Herein, Eu-doped g-C3N4 fluorescence probe was prepared via high-temperature solid-phase method. Upon interaction with four TCs, g-C3N4's blue fluorescence was quenched by inner filter effect and static quenching. Simultaneously, the Eu3+ red fluorescence was enhanced through an antenna effect, owing to complexation between Eu3+ and the β-diketone/enol structures of TCs. This probe exhibited differential ratiometric responses and a sensitivity order of ox

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global public health threat, and the food chain may play a key role in its dissemination. From livestock production to processing and consumption, antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) can spread across animals, food products, processing environments, and humans, compromising food safety and the effectiveness of antimicrobials. This study examines the resistome, and its association with mobile genetic elements, in various meat-processing facilities using long-read sequencing, providing a comprehensive overview of the main ARGs circulating across beef,

Discriminating structurally similar antibiotics requires analytical strategies that simultaneously achieve cross-class differentiation and intra-class fine identification─a persistent challenge in chemical sensing. Herein, we report a hierarchical molecular recognition platform based on a single mixed-ligand Eu/Cd heterometallic metal-organic framework (MOF) featuring atomically homogeneous emissive centers. Precise Eu3+ substitution at Cd2+ nodes yields two spectrally distinct emission channels at 450 nm (ligand-centered) and 612 nm (Eu3+-centered), which generate characteristic fluorescence

In this study, a spore-based paper-strip assay was developed for rapid, on-site screening of antibiotics in milk. An α-d-glucosidase was identified as the optimal marker enzyme, producing a visible color signal within 30 min. Standardized production of Geobacillus stearothermophilus 331 spores served as a stable biological sensing element. Optimization of germinants, nutrient supplements, sporulation conditions, and strip-loading parameters enabled efficient spore germination and enzyme release, reducing assay time to 60-90 min. Thermal activation of spores at 100°C for 20 min improved sensiti

This study investigated the intestinal carriage of extended-spectrum cephalosporin-resistant (ESC-R) Enterobacterales in farmed sea bream (Sparus aurata) marketed in Algiers. A total of 108 intestinal samples were collected from seven fishmongers between 2023 and 2024. ESC-R Enterobacterales were detected in 16.7% of the samples (18/108), including Klebsiella pneumoniae (n = 9), Escherichia coli (n = 8), and Klebsiella michiganensis (n = 1). Whole-genome sequencing confirmed the presence of genes conferring an extended-spectrum β-lactamase phenotype in 17 isolates (mostly blaCTX-M-15) and an A

BACKGROUND: Tetracyclines remain useful options for Gram-positive infections, particularly when prolonged oral therapy is required. Doxycycline is attractive because of its oral bioavailability and tolerability, but many susceptibility systems report tetracycline or minocycline rather than doxycycline, creating uncertainty about within-class extrapolation.
OBJECTIVES: To examine the microbiological, pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD), interpretive and clinical evidence supporting cross-susceptibility among tetracycline-class agents in clinically relevant Gram-positive organisms and to de

BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing global public and animal health threat, to which the misuse of antimicrobials in humans and livestock contributes. Here we describe the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of Indonesian layer farmers regarding AMR and antimicrobial use (AMU) before the national ban on colistin use, as well as the awareness of farmers of the ban.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The first phase, conducted in 2014 as part of a study carried out between 2013 and 2016, involved a cross-sectional survey of small-scale layer poultry farmers, assessing their KAP to

Antibiotic resistance (ABR) is a major global health threat. Beyond inappropriate clinical use, its emergence and persistence are influenced by complex interactions across humans, animals and the environment, demanding a One Health perspective. To investigate these dynamics, we conducted an ecological study on 397,103 isolates of Escherichia coli and Shigella spp. and Salmonella enterica collected from human, animal, and environmental sources in 102 countries between 2003 and 2018, using the NCBI Pathogen Detection database. Genotypically-inferred resistance to seven major antibiotic classes (

Two-dimensional fluorescent materials have emerged as promising candidates for applications in food safety, environmental monitoring, and disease diagnostics, particularly for point-of-care sensors. We report solvothermal development of an imine-linked 2D hydrogen-covalent hybridized organic framework (H-COF), DaTa-1, with novel raspberry-like morphology for the sensitive chemosensing of tetracyclines (TCs) in tap water and milk samples. The developed H-COF exhibited good thermal stability and strong fluorescence in aqueous suspension and in the solid state. DaTa-1 demonstrated excellent sensi

Eliminating residual antibiotics during struvite recovery from livestock wastewater is essential to prevent the spread of antibiotic resistance. In this work, the effects of in-situ struvite crystallization on the degradation of typical veterinary antibiotics, tetracyclines (TCs), by non-radical peroxymonosulfate (PMS) oxidation were investigated. Results revealed that the process of struvite crystallization enhanced PMS oxidation of TCs with kobs values reaching 1.95-2.15 times those of PMS alone. 1O2 and electron transfer processes were identified as the dominant non-radical pathways. Electr

Tetracyclines (TCs) that accumulate in food enter the human body through the food chain, leading to drug resistance and health risks. This study synthesized a heterostructure fluorescent sensor, Zn-TCPP-MOF/NH2-MIL-53(Al) (abbreviated ZTA) for TCs detection. A dual-mode detection system was established by integrating fluorescence spectroscopy with machine learning algorithms and fluorescence imaging with YOLOv5, enabling precise detection of TCs. The π-π stacking reduced ZTA electron density to promote electron transfer, inducing specific recognition of TCs with a low detection limit of 0.012

Antibiotic residues in dairy products and the resulting antibiotic-resistant bacteria represent a major global public health concern. This study evaluated the microbiological safety of 400 dairy samples collected over two consecutive years (2022 and 2023) from 16 dairy residue industries across four governorates in Lebanon. In addition, antibiotic residues were screened from 126 dairy product samples randomly chosen out of the 400. An optimized multi-class method for the identification and quantification of 30 antibiotics was developed using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Results rev

Residual tetracycline antibiotics (TCs), especially tetracycline (TC) and doxycycline (DOX), pose critical threats to ecosystems and human health. There is an urgent demand for approaches capable of rapid, on-site monitoring and removal of TCs. Herein, a ratiometric fluorescent hybrid probe (HA-CDs/Eu3+) was engineered by integrating HA-CDs with Eu3+, featuring specific fluorescence response toward TCs (superior sensitivity to TC and DOX) and adsorption capacity. Upon the introduction of TC, quenching of the blue emission of HA-CDs occurred via the inner filter effect (IFE), while the red emis

Carbon dots (CDs) are an important class of carbon-based nanomaterials and represent a relatively new type of fluorescent nanomaterial that has attracted extensive research interest. Their popularity has increased rapidly due to several advantageous characteristics, including low toxicity, chemical stability, tunable fluorescence behavior, good water solubility, and favorable physicochemical properties. Owing to these features, CDs have been widely explored as sensing materials for the detection of various targets. In this review, pharmaceutical residues in food samples and their associated to

BACKGROUND: Multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial infections present significant challenges to the management of central nervous system (CNS) infections, particularly in neurosurgical patients and those with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diversion devices. Achieving adequate CNS exposure is complicated by variable blood-brain barrier permeability and physiological changes, and CSF concentrations are not reliably predicted by plasma concentrations. Several new antibiotics have been introduced in response to rising MDR rates. To date, none are licensed for CNS infections, and data on CSF penetration a
