Critical role of oxygen vacancies in SnO2 for enhanced photocatalytic degradation of toluene.

The low density of active sites, poor light absorption and rapid recombination of photogenerated carriers often suppress photocatalytic activity and impede practical applications. Oxygen vacancies (OVs), as unique crystal defects, can improve the performance of photocatalysts for refractory pollutant purification. Herein, a series of SnO2 photocatalysts with tunable OVs concentrations were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method. Under 50 % relative humidity, an initial toluene concentration of 50 ppm and 60 min of UV irradiation, SnO2 prepared hydrothermally for 24 h with abundant OVs ac

Exploring the Catalytic Activity of Ge(II) and Sn(II) Cationic Crown Ether Complexes: Hydrosilylation.

Lewis acid-catalyzed hydrosilylation of carbonyl compounds was explored using cationic germanium(II) and tin(II) crown ether complexes as catalysts. Only the germanium(II) crown ether complexes were found to reduce aldehydes efficiently and selectively to one product, the symmetric ether. The scope of the reaction was explored using [Ge([12]crown-4)2][OTf]2 as the catalyst revealing tolerance for a variety of functional groups, excluding those containing nitrogen. Lower conversions and less selectivity were observed in ketone hydrosilylations. The mechanism of aldehyde reduction catalyzed by [

Integrated network toxicology and multiomics analyses reveal the mechanisms underlying trimethyltin chloride-induced epilepsy and the ameliorative effects of astaxanthin via NFKB1 and IL6.

Trimethyltin chloride (TMT) is a ubiquitous neurotoxic organotin pollutant that induces epilepsy, while the natural marine product astaxanthin (AST) exerts potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects. However, the causal molecular mechanisms of TMT-induced epilepsy and the targeted intervention mechanism of AST remain unclear. In this work, we adopted a multidimensional analytical framework encompassing an National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) population cohort analysis, network toxicology, machine learning, single-cell RNA sequencing, Mendelian random

Surface-engineered porous silicon nanoparticles amplifying [Ru(bpy)3]2+ electrochemiluminescence for ultrasensitive immunoassay.

Highly sensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) systems are essential for the accurate detection of disease-related cytokines. Herein, mildly oxidized porous silicon (MO-PSi) nanoparticles are first employed as a multifunctional modification material to boost the ECL signal of the tris(2,2'-bipyridine)-ruthenium(II) [Ru(bpy)3]2+/tripropylamine (TPrA) system for cytokine immunoassay. Freshly etched PSi was subjected to a one-step mild oxidation treatment to generate mildly oxidized porous silicon (MO-PSi), during which the surface Si-H groups were converted into a SiOx layer enriched with Si-OH

In situ urea-assisted self-reduction strategy for constructing oxygen-vacancy-rich chlorine-doped SnO2 with enhanced visible-light photocatalytic activity.

The rational design of defect-engineered metal oxide photocatalysts via mild and sustainable routes remains a key challenge in environmental remediation. Herein, we report a novel in situ urea-assisted self-reduction strategy for the one-pot synthesis of chlorine-doped SnO2 nanocrystals enriched with oxygen vacancies. By employing a confined dual-crucible configuration, thermal decomposition of urea at 300 °C generates a localized reducing microatmosphere, which simultaneously promotes the substitution of lattice oxygen by residual chlorine from the tin hydroxy chloride precursor and induces t

Biallelic loss-of-function PTPN6 variants lead to inflammatory lung disease and hemolytic anemia.

Severe inflammatory lung disease, including acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), is life-threatening with diverse causes and few targeted therapies. Inborn errors of immunity (IEIs) underlie a subset of cases. We describe a novel IEI caused by biallelic loss-of-function variants in PTPN6, encoding the immunoregulatory phosphatase SHP1. Seven children from five families developed early-onset anemia and severe inflammatory lung disease, at times presenting as ARDS. The causative variants were shown to destabilize SHP1 and abolish its phosphatase activity. These findings expand the genetic

A MIP/ITO with electrochromic properties for selective monitoring of carvedilol in human biofluids: towards a green dual-mode electrochemical/visual sensor.

The widespread prevalence of cardiovascular diseases and their profound impact on quality of life have underscored the critical need for accurate monitoring of cardiac medications and precise dosage control. In this study, an electrochromic sensor has been designed and fabricated using aniline as the electrochromic material and carvedilol as the template molecule. The sensing mechanism is based on molecular imprinting on the surface of an indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode, enabling selective recognition of the analyte according to its shape and size. The proposed sensor demonstrates a linear re

Impedimetric sensing of C-reactive protein using a novel molecularly imprinted polymer coupled with bismuth-enhanced cobalt ferrite nanocomposites for cardiovascular risk assessment.

This study reports an approach of using a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) combined with Bi-doped cobalt ferrite (BixCoFe2O4) nanoparticles (NPs) for detecting C-reactive protein (CRP), a marker associated with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Sudden cardiac arrest is a growing concern in India, where CVDs have become the leading cause of mortality. MIPs have recently drawn increasing interest over time; consequently, the objective of this study is to engineer an MIP-based electrochemical sensor due to their reliability, ease of electrochemical control for template removal, and cavity renewa

Detection and Characterization of Plasma-Generated Stannane: Influence of Surface Composition on Species Formation.

In extreme ultraviolet (EUV) light sources for lithography, tin droplets are used as target material and evaporate during plasma generation, leading to tin deposition on surrounding surfaces. A widely used method to remove surface-bound tin involves exposure to hydrogen plasma, resulting in the formation of stannane (SnH4). As a volatile compound, stannane is efficiently pumped out of the system; however, it may also decompose upon contact with surfaces, potentially leading to secondary tin contamination. Despite its relevance in this field, the pathways of stannane formation and decomposition

NOX4/Keap1/Nrf2/ROS signaling drives ferroptosis in trimethyltin chloride-induced cardiac developmental malformations.

Trimethyltin chloride (TMT), a pervasive environmental organic tin pollutant, has been implicated in cardiac injury, though its underlying mechanisms remain unclear. TMT exposure triggers excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, a key inducer of ferroptosis-a regulated form of cell death driven by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation. NADPH oxidase 4 (NOX4), highly expressed during cardiac development, plays a critical role in myocardial ROS production, while the Keap1/Nrf2 pathway regulates cellular ROS homeostasis. We hypothesized that TMT induces cardiac developmental defects by act

Recipe optimization and SRF test of Cu-compatible Nb[Formula: see text]Sn films by DC magnetron sputtering from a stoichiometric target.

The development of modern particle accelerators such as FCC-ee requires improved energy efficiency. On the SRF cavity side, the intermetallic compound [Formula: see text] is a promising alternative to niobium: its higher critical temperature (18.3 K) results into a BCS surface resistance at 4.5 K comparable to the one of Nb at 2 K, potentially allowing improved performance and reduced cryogenic costs while maintaining operation at 4.5 K. However, its brittleness makes bulk machining impractical, restricting its application to thin-film coatings. This study presents [Formula: see text] thin fil
