Respiratory device-related pressure injuries in hospitalised adults: An integrative review.

OBJECTIVE: To identify the main ventilatory support medical devices related to the occurrence of pressure injuries in hospitalised adults, as well as the most frequent anatomical localisations of these injuries. METHODS: The Integrative review was registered at Open Science Framework as per DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/P3NTZ. Two independent reviewers, in May 2022, searched the databases: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, LILACS and CINAHL; no language or publication year restriction. The review question was: What are the ventilatory support medical devices that cause PIs in hos

Commissuroplasty Using Split Dry Lips: A Case Report.

Commissuroplasty is a procedure that is performed to correct deformities at the corner of the mouth or oral commissure. Herein, we report a case of postoperative microstomia treated with commissuroplasty using split dry lips. In a surgical procedure, the dry lip was divided into orbicularis oris muscle cutaneous flaps and transpositioned into the cleft formed. The deformation of the corners of the mouth improved, and mouth opening improved enough to wear dentures. We believe that this method enables commissuroplasty that combines aesthetics with function.

Commissuroplasty using the triangular cheek flap in patients with free flap reconstruction of through and through buccal defects.

Extensive resections of advanced stage oral cavity cancers can sometimes lead to significant through and through buccal defects with compromise of the oral commissure/lips. Post free flap reconstruction, such patients often require a secondary delayed commissuroplasty to assist with improved oral function and quality of life. In current literature, limited methods exist for free flap commissuroplasty with some key limitations, particularly their negative impact on buccal sulcus or oral vestibule. Our technique of the triangular cheek flap commissuroplasty allows the surgeon to reconstruct a ne

Optimizing the results of facial animation surgery: Botulinum toxin injection into free functional gracilis flap transfer.

Although neuromuscular gracilis transplantation is the best choice for facial reanimation in patients with congenital or inveterate palsy, the results are not completely satisfactory. Ancillary procedures developed to achieve better symmetry of the smile and reduce the hypercontractility of the transplanted muscle have been reported. However, the intramuscular injection of botulinum toxin has not been described for this purpose. Patients undergoing gracilis injections of botulinum toxin after facial reanimation surgery between September 1, 2020, and June 1, 2022, were retrospectively enrolled

Intralabial Lip Compartments and Their Potential Clinical Relevance.

BACKGROUND: Aesthetic soft-tissue filler injections for lip enhancement are popular and performed throughout the world. When injecting lips with a cannula, as the cannula is advanced, resistance is perceived in consistent locations, potentially indicating boundaries between intralabial compartments. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate whether intralabial compartments exist and, if so, to describe their volumes, location, boundaries, and dimensions. METHODS: This cadaveric study investigated a total of 20 human body donors (13 male, seven female) with a mean (SD) age at death of 61.9 years (23

Quantitative analysis of facial symmetry and animation following intraoral orthodromic temporalis transfer in facial paralysis.

This study aimed to quantitatively analyze the degree and vector of commissure excursion following intraoral orthodromic temporalis transfer. Patients with unilateral facial paralysis who underwent intraoral temporalis transfer were included. Intra-oral coronoidectomy was followed by submucosa tunneling through two vertical intraoral incisions to fixate the temporalis tendon to the perioral location. Oral commissure excursion, upper lip and commissure height differences, and smile angle were measured. Postoperatively, the symmetry of commissure excursion improved in repose (affected side: 114.

Single-stage Repair of Bilateral Cleft Lip and Bilateral Transverse Facial Cleft in Goldenhar Syndrome: A Case Report.

Goldenhar syndrome (GS) is a rare congenital disorder characterized by multiple facial anomalies. This case report describes a GS presenting with bilateral cleft lip and palate and bilateral transverse facial cleft. We performed a single-stage surgery to repair the bilateral cleft lip and bilateral transverse facial cleft when the patient was 4-months-old. Bilateral cleft lip repair using the Mulliken method was performed first, and then the bilateral transverse facial cleft was corrected. Orbicularis oris muscle repair was done at each clefts. Anatomical approximation technique was used and t

Assessment of infraorbital foramen position using computed tomography-scan in a cohort of Cameroonian adults: landmarks in facial surgery and anesthesiology.

INTRODUCTION: the infraorbital foramen (IOF) is a hole located in the maxillary bone and delivering passage to the infra orbital vascular-nervous bundle. It is an essential structure in the management of orofacial pathologies. Its precise location allows optimal anesthesia of the infraorbital nerve during cleft lip and palate surgery or alcoholization during the management of essential V2 neuralgia. The aim of our research was to determine the morphology and morphometry of the infraorbital foramen in a sample of the Cameroonian population. METHODS: we included 208 CT-scans of patients meeting

Commissurotomy Using Carbon Dioxide Laser in 67 Dogs.

Commissurotomy is a surgical technique whereby the lip commissure is incised. Indications for commissurotomy include cheiloplasty, partial commissurectomy, or access to the caudal portion of the maxilla or mandible for oral surgery. Carbon dioxide (CO2) laser was used for commissurotomy in dogs for partial commissurectomy (n = 7) or access for oral surgery (n = 60). All dogs had oral or maxillofacial neoplasms that required resective surgery. The CO2 laser was used to perform commissurotomy or commissurectomy, as indicated. Commissurotomy healing was evaluated at 2 weeks with longer-term follo
