Numerical simulation of gonadal vein hemodynamics in nutcracker syndrome-associated varicocele: effects of Valsalva maneuver and clinical implications.

OBJECTIVES: Nutcracker syndrome (NCS) is a vascular disorder characterized by compression of the left renal vein (LRV), frequently complicated by varicocele in male patients. The Valsalva maneuver is routinely used to provoke venous reflux during ultrasound diagnosis, yet the hemodynamic response of the gonadal vein throughout a complete Valsalva cycle remains poorly characterized. This study aims to quantitatively elucidate the hemodynamic mechanisms by which intra-abdominal pressure elevation-simulated via the Valsalva maneuver-exacerbates gonadal venous reflux in NCS-associated varicocele.

Multi-Stage X-Ray Imaging Dataset of Phase Trapping in Porous Media.

Subsurface gas storage, particularly the sequestration of CO2, continues to remain an active area of research for mitigating atmospheric CO2 concentrations. However, experimental datasets providing direct, high-resolution measurements of CO2 transport, saturation, and pore-scale dynamics under realistic reservoir conditions remain limited, due primarily to experimental complexity. In this study, we present a comprehensive dataset from supercritical CO2 (scCO2)-brine core-flooding experiments conducted at relevant subsurface conditions, employing a sophisticated core holder system capable of su

Development of biodegradable triazine-chitosan nanocomposites enhanced with magnetic and silica nanoparticles for improved drilling fluid properties.

Despite continuous advancements in drilling fluid technology, achieving a balance between operational efficiency, environmental compatibility, and effective filtration control remains a persistent challenge. In this study, two novel chitosan-based nanocomposites-magnetic and silica nanoparticles functionalized with a triazine-chitosan network crosslinked by glutaraldehyde (Fe3O4@SiO2@melamine-chitosan and SiO2@melamine-chitosan)-were synthesized and systematically evaluated as additives for water-based drilling fluids. The performance enhancement is attributed to the synergistic interactions b

Experimental Investigation on the Rock-Breaking Efficiency of High-Pressure Jet Drill Rod Perforation in Sandstone Roof.

Against the backdrop of global energy transition and carbon neutrality goals, the demand for efficient, safe, and sustainable exploitation of coal resources has grown increasingly urgent. High-pressure jet rock-breaking technology has emerged as a key enabling solution for directional rock mass weakening, gob-side entry retention, and other critical coal mine engineering projects. However, existing theoretical and experimental studies on jet rock breaking have struggled to fully reveal the evolutionary mechanism of rock fragmentation during down-the-hole jet drilling operations. To directly ob

High throughput analysis of methoxy polyethylene glycol polymers with 6 subunits by UPCC-MS3 coupled with multiple fragmentation to improve sensitivity.

The quantification of hydrophilic polyethylene glycol (PEG) derivatives in biological matrices is often hindered by poor chromatographic retention and severe matrix effects in conventional reversed phase systems. This study addresses these challenges by developing a novel, green analytical platform integrating ultra-performance convergence chromatography (UPCC) with triple mass spectrometry (MS3) detection. The method leverages the orthogonal separation mechanism of UPCC to achieve superior resolution within an ultra-short 1.5 min analytical cycle. Notably, the MS3 acquisition strategy effecti

Simultaneous quantification of linezolid and its metabolites (PNU-142300 and PNU-142586) in oral fluid and capillary blood by UPLC-MS/MS: method validation and clinical application using non-invasive sampling techniques.

BACKGROUND: Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) can improve the safety and efficacy of the antibiotic linezolid (LZD), particularly in patients at risk of toxicity or with high pharmacokinetic variability. Although oral fluid (OF) and capillary blood collected through microsampling have emerged as less invasive alternatives to venous blood, the applicability of these matrices for quantifying LZD and its major metabolites-PNU-142300 and PNU-142586-has not been established. This study aimed to develop and validate a UPLC-MS/MS method for the simultaneous quantification of LZD, PNU-142300, and PNU-

Analysis of ultrasound Doppler flow pattern recognition method for drilling gas intrusion monitoring.

High-pressure gas intrusion during drilling operations poses significant well control challenges, heightening blowout risks. To address this critical safety concern, this paper proposes a real-time monitoring framework by characterizing gas-liquid flow pattern transitions through ultrasonic Doppler detection and time-frequency analysis. The proposed methodology systematically integrates three innovative processes: (1) gas-phase channel enumeration for spatial quantification of gas distribution patterns, (2) Doppler frequency shift range analysis enabling dynamic flow characteristic resolution,

Decoupling particle size and charge transport in PEDOT:PSS via morphological inheritance of monomer emulsification.

The intrinsic trade-off between colloidal processability and macroscopic electrical conductivity has long hindered the advancement of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) in precision flexible electronics. While pursuing nanoscale colloidal dispersions typically leads to a proliferation of grain boundaries that drastically degrade the material's electrical properties, we demonstrate that this trade-off can be decoupled at the level of polymerization kinetics. Herein, we propose a nanoreactor strategy leveraging the "morphological inheritance" of emulsified monome

Numerical study of viscous and rarefaction effects on choked flow in two-dimensional convergent conical nozzle.

In this study, a numerical investigation of gas flow through a convergent conical nozzle operating under low-pressure conditions, with an emphasis on choked mass flow behaviour with viscous and rarefaction effects, is conducted. Simulations are performed over a range of pressure ratios spanning the continuum and slip-flow regimes under no-slip, slip, and inviscid wall boundary conditions. At high pressure ratios, all the formulations yield comparable core-flow accelerations, with deviations below 1%, thus indicating near-continuum behaviour. As the pressure ratio decreases, rarefaction effects

Development of a High-Temperature-Resistant Encapsulated Gel Breaker for Polymer Gels and Evaluation of Its Performance.

To address the poor temperature resistance of conventional gel breakers, the uncontrollable gel-breaking time, and the risk of secondary reservoir damage during temporary plugging of fractured formations with polymer gels, a high-temperature-resistant double-shell encapsulated gel breaker, UF-EC/SA, was prepared using oil-phase phase separation combined with in situ polymerization. In this material, urea-formaldehyde resin (UF) served as the outer shell, ethyl cellulose (EC) as the inner shell, and sulfamic acid (SA) as the core. Unlike conventional single-shell persulfate or directly added ac

Preparation and Application of a Novel Anti-Contamination Agent for Use in Drilling Fluids.

An anti-contamination agent (Zn/Al-ATMP-LDH) was synthesized by intercalation and used to correct the abnormal thickening and related operational risks caused by contact contamination between drilling fluids and cement slurries during high-temperature/high-pressure cementing. The experimental results show that the agent is chemically stable and exhibits good compatibility with conventional spacer fluid additives. When compared with the direct addition of amino tris(methylenephosphonic acid) (ATMP), confining ATMP within a layered double hydroxide (LDH) markedly mitigates the retarding effect.

Hydrostatic pressure reduces the mechanosensitivity of cell migration.

Cells sense and respond to diverse physical cues as they migrate toward distant sites. While much is known about the roles of cellular molecules in the regulation of mechanosensitivity, our understanding of how extracellular cues influence this property remains limited. Here, we show that prolonged exposure to elevated, yet (patho)physiologically relevant, extracellular hydrostatic pressure decreases migration sensitivity to substrate stiffness, fluid viscosity, fluid forces, and hydraulic resistance. Reduced mechanosensitivity can persist for days after the high-pressure cue is removed, indic

Pore-Throat Combination Characteristics and Their Impact on Fluid Mobility in Water-Bearing Tight Sandstones.

The heterogeneity of nanoscale pore-throat structures controls fluid trapping and gas productivity in tight sandstone reservoirs, but a quantitative method to relate pore-throat combination to movable fluid distribution is lacking. This study integrates multiscale techniques, including high-pressure mercury intrusion (HPMI), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), X-ray microcomputed tomography (Xμ-CT), and core flooding experiments to classify tight sandstone reservoirs into three types based on initial water saturation (S iw) and reveal how pore-throat size and combinations control fluid mobility.

Hydrothermal synthesis of nitrogen and sulfur co-doped reduced graphene oxide anchored cuprous oxide nanocomposite for enhancing rheological and filtration performance of water based drilling fluids.

Borehole instability driven by reactive shale hydration and excessive filtrate invasion remains a critical challenge in drilling operations. To address this, we synthesized a novel nitrogen and sulfur co-doped reduced graphene oxide/cuprous oxide (N,S-rGO/Cu2O) nanocomposite to reinforce the rheological and filtration properties of environmentally friendly water-based muds. The nanocomposite, prepared via a facile one-pot hydrothermal method, was characterized structurally and compositionally, then evaluated in both polymeric and high-solid base fluids. Performance was assessed through standar

Numerical investigation of a three-lobe gas foil bearing with a double-ring microgrooved top foil based on fluid-structure interaction.

Foil gas bearings are critical supporting components in high-speed oil-free rotating machinery. However, their limited hydrodynamic load-carrying capacity remains a fundamental challenge. To enhance the gas film pressure distribution and load-carrying performance of three-lobe aerodynamic foil bearings, a double-ring circumferential microgroove structure is proposed on the inner surface of the top foil. Based on compressible gas lubrication theory and the fluid-structure interaction method, a numerical model is established to compare grooveless, single-ring microgroove, and double-ring microgr
