This study aims to investigate the postoperative maxillofacial growth and bone formation after gingivoperiosteoplasty (GPP) performed in early childhood for patients with bilateral cleft lip and palate (BCLP). Thirty non-syndromic patients with complete BCLP who underwent a two-stage palatoplasty protocol were enrolled. Their alveolar cleft sides were categorized into two groups based on whether GPP was applied at the timing of hard palate closure (GPP group, n = 33) or not (non-GPP group, n = 27). Computed tomography (CT) and lateral cephalograms both taken at 8 years of age were analysed. Bo

Functional and anatomical problems associated with lower eyelid retraction (LER) can significantly affect the patient's vision and quality of life. Numerous methods have been proposed for correcting the position and contour of the lower eyelid; however, surgical management is often challenging and insufficiently effective. One of the widely used approaches is the release of lower eyelid retractors with the use of a spacer graft. This article reviews literature on available spacers for correcting lower eyelid position.

Dentinogenic ghost cell tumor (DGCT) is an uncommon odontogenic neoplasm that accounts for less than 0.5% of all tumors with odontogenic origin. Its rarity, along with identical radiological and clinical features as other odontogenic lesions, often makes the diagnosis challenging. The current case report discusses the clinical, radiological, and histopathological features of DGCT in a 71-year-old female patient presenting with facial swelling and pain in the maxillary anterior region. Clinical examination revealed a hard, tender, localized swelling from the infraorbital to the zygomatic region

Oral telangiectasias in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) can significantly impair quality of life. While sclerotherapy is an established treatment for HHT-related epistaxis, it is rarely used for oral telangiectasias. We retrospectively reviewed HHT patients who underwent oral sclerotherapy between 2021 and 2024 at a tertiary academic center. Eleven patients (64% female, mean age 61.3 years, 82% ACVRL1 genotype) underwent sclerotherapy using a 1:4 mixture of 3% sodium tetradecyl sulfate and air. Lesions treated included the lip (36%), tongue (36%), hard palate (18%), and gingiva (9%

Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disease that commonly involves the lungs, with rare involvement of the sinonasal region. We present the case of a 64-year-old Asian female with a five-month history of painless nasal swelling and deformity. Imaging revealed an aggressive, fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-avid lesion involving the frontal sinuses, nasal septum, hard palate, and adjacent soft tissues, raising concern for malignancy such as lymphoma or squamous cell carcinoma. However, multiple biopsies from the nasal lesion, mediastinal lymph nodes, and a subcutaneous elbow nodule revealed non-

Malignant melanoma is a rare and highly aggressive neoplasm originating from melanocytes, typically occurring on the skin and exhibiting early lymphatic and hematogenous metastases. Despite advancements in chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiotherapy, a definitive standard treatment has yet to be established;surgical excision remains the most effective modality. We present a case of primary malignant melanoma of the left palate. A 64-year-old man was referred to our department with a chief complaint of a black pigmented lesion on the palate. Clinical examination revealed a 20×25 mm exophytic

We report the case of a 60-year-old male with metastatic melanoma originating from a hyperpigmented lesion on the hard palate. During treatment with nivolumab, ipilimumab, cisplatin, and temozolomide, he developed multiple bluish macule-like lesions on the retroauricular region, neck, and anterior chest, surrounded by vitiligo-like halos. Given the clinical suspicion of in-transit metastases, biopsies were performed. Histopathological evaluation revealed dermal aggregates of melanin-laden macrophages, positive for CD68, in the absence of melanocytes, findings characteristic of tumoral melanosi

BACKGROUND: The nasolabial flap is a regional flap with vascularity based on the facial artery inferiorly and the angular artery superiorly. Depending on the area to be covered, it can be islanded or pedicled and performed in a single-stage or two-stage procedure. The tissue laxity in this area provides a wider arc of rotation, and the good color match adds to the other advantages of this flap. Generally, it is used to cover nasal, lip, and alveolar defects. It is especially useful in patients with multiple comorbidities, in whom major flaps cannot be planned.
METHODOLOGY: This is a retrospec

INTRODUCTION: Opportunistic infections (IO) are infections of microbiota (fungi, viruses, bacteria, or parasites) that generally do not cause disease but turn into pathogens when the body's defense system is compromised. This can be triggered by various factors, one of which is due to a weakened immune system due to Diabetes Mellitus (DM), which increases the occurrence of opportunistic infections, especially in the oral cavity. Fungal (oral candidiasis) and viral (recurrent intraoral herpes) infections can occur in the oral cavity of DM patients. Recurrent intraoral herpes (RIH) is generally
