Characterization of Patients With Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome Undergoing Drug-Induced Sleep Endoscopy: A Retrospective Study of Nine Years (2014-2022).

INTRODUCTION: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is the most prevalent sleep-related breathing disorder associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular complications. Identifying the anatomical sites of airway obstruction is crucial for optimizing treatment, particularly in patients requiring surgical intervention. In recent years, drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) has emerged as a valuable diagnostic tool for evaluating upper airway obstruction in OSAS patients. OBJECTIVES: To characterize the OSAS population undergoing DISE and correlate endoscopic findings wi

Presurgical three-dimensional palatal morphology in children with different cleft types compared to healthy controls.

Palatal morphology in patients with clefts can be accurately assessed during the presurgical period, providing insights into how cleft type affect palatal development. These early observations are unbiased by treatment, making them broadly applicable. This study aimed to identify differences in palatal morphology among untreated patients with various cleft types before surgery. Primary outcomes included palatal size at the occlusal plane and palatal surface area, while secondary outcomes involved palatal width, length, and premaxilla rotation. Digital impressions from 150 patients (97 males, 5

A Comprehensive Analysis of the Interrelationship Between Craniofacial Variables in Cephalometric Analysis and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).

Background/Objectives: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a global condition usually associated with poor health. While common, it appears underdiagnosed due to repeated episodes of upper airway obstruction during the sleep cycle. It is accompanied by other health risks like cardiovascular issues and conditions. Identifying craniofacial characteristics linked to OSAS may enhance diagnostic precision and treatment planning. The aim of our study was to examine the relationship between cephalometric variables and OSAS and determine whether craniofacial features influence the syndrome's de

A Functional Larynx Dissection Utilizing Mandibular Rotation: A Technical Report.

In gross anatomy labs, the larynx is usually visualized with either a sagittal hemisection or a posterior disarticulation approach. Both fail to maintain the functional in-situ relationships between the intact larynx and adjacent structures. This makes it challenging for students to understand how suprahyoid and infrahyoid muscles, pharyngeal muscles, the tongue, epiglottis, and intrinsic laryngeal muscles are all involved with airway protection and swallowing. We describe a novel approach to cadaveric larynx exposure using a pharyngotomy and mandibular rotation technique, which keeps the lary
