Palisading Adenocarcinoma of the Sublingual Gland: Report of Two Rare Cases.

Palisading adenocarcinoma is a recently recognized, biphasic salivary gland tumor with a distinctive histomorphological pattern. Its low rate of local recurrence and absence of documented metastatic potential make accurate recognition clinically relevant. We report two cases of palisading adenocarcinoma arising in the sublingual gland of female patients aged 39 and 54 years. Both tumors were well-circumscribed and encapsulated, and showed solid growth composed of trabecular and islet-like structures with prominent peripheral palisading, admixed with ductal elements, with focal necrosis observe

Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Management and Outcomes of Recurrent Ranulas.

OBJECTIVE: To systematically review and compare recurrence rates associated with different management strategies for simple and plunging ranulas. METHODS: A PRISMA-guided search of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and CINAHL was performed. Studies reporting post-treatment outcomes of ranulas with clearly defined initial management strategies were included. Two reviewers independently screened studies and extracted data on ranula subtype, treatment details, duration of follow-up, and recurrence. Risk of bias was assessed using study design-appropriate tools. Given the predominance of re

Mature Cystic Teratoma of the Ventral Tongue in an Infant: A Case Report.

Mature cystic teratomas most commonly arise from the ovaries and testes, but may also occur at extragonadal sites, with a relatively higher incidence in children. However, mature cystic teratomas located on the ventral surface of the tongue are exceedingly rare. We report a case of a 6-month-old female infant with a gradually enlarging oral mass since birth, causing feeding and breathing difficulties. The tumor was situated beneath the mucosal layer on the ventral tongue. Preoperative magnetic resonance imaging suggested a sublingual gland cyst or dermoid cyst, but histopathological examinatio

Clinical Outcomes of Polidocanol Foam Sclerotherapy in Treatment of Sublingual Ranula.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Ranula is a mucus retention cyst originating from the sublingual gland, and surgical intervention has traditionally been the main treatment. However, surgery is often associated with recurrence, risk of nerve injury, and patient discomfort. Sclerotherapy using polidocanol, a low-toxicity agent, has emerged as a promising minimally invasive alternative. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes and safety of polidocanol injection therapy in patients with sublingual ranula. METHODS: This retrospective study included 34 patients with sublingual ranula who underwen

Dose-Dependent Protective Effects of Agmatine on Sublingual Gland Dysfunction and Pancreatic Damage in Experimental Diabetes: Evidence From Histological, Biochemical, and Immunohistochemical Analyses.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) induces endocrine and exocrine dysfunction, including salivary gland impairment. While the sublingual gland (SLG) contributes to saliva production, its involvement in diabetes remains understudied. Agmatine (AGM), a naturally occurring polyamine, exhibits antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties; however, its protective effects on the SLG and pancreas in diabetes have remained largely uninvestigated. This study introduces new insights into SLG injury in diabetes and the dose-dependent protective benefits of AGM through multi-level analysis. Male Wistar rats were rend

Clinical Diagnosis and Management of Bilateral Plunging Ranula.

Ranula is a benign salivary gland lesion originating from the sublingual salivary gland. This condition is primarily associated with salivary extravasation and retention due to obstruction or injury of the submandibular duct. A plunging ranula represents a rare variant occurring in the neck, submandibular, or submental regions, with bilateral presentations being particularly uncommon. Clinically, due to its lack of specificity, it is easily confused with other cervical lesions. This paper reports a case of a 25-year-old female presenting with bilateral painless submandibular masses. MRI reveal

[Effects of Buzhong Yiqi Formula on structure and function of sublingual glands of rat model of type 2 diabetes mellitus].

The efficacy of Buzhong Yiqi Formula(BZYQF) in alleviating type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) is well-established, while the effect of this formula on T2DM-caused hyposalivation remains unclear. Specifically, the effects of BZYQF on the structure and function of sublingual glands in the rat model of T2DM have not been reported. To investigate the improving effects of BZYQF on the structure and function of sublingual glands in the rat model of T2DM, this study established a rat model of T2DM and treated the modeled rats with BZYQF by gavage at a dose of 8 g·kg~(-1)·d~(-1) for 11 weeks. Primary Small Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Sublingual Gland Treated With Definitive Chemoradiotherapy: A Case Report.

Primary sublingual gland small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (SCNEC) is extremely rare, with only one prior case reported, and no site-specific standard of care has been established. We report a case of primary sublingual gland SCNEC treated with definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT). A 69-year-old man presented with a 21 × 15-mm right sublingual mass showing fluorodeoxyglucose uptake (SUVmax 9.9) on PET/CT. No nodal or distant disease was found. Biopsy revealed small cell morphology positive for INSM1/synaptophysin and pan-cytokeratin, with a high Ki-67 index (> 95%). IMRT delivered 7

A clinicopathological study on the associations between ranulas and autoimmune diseases.

The study aimed to investigate autoimmune disease (AD) prevalence in ranula patients, analyse their clinicopathological features, and explore the associations between ADs and ranulas. This cross-sectional study enrolled surgically treated ranula patients between 2021 and 2023. AD diagnosis was established. Clinical, serological, and histopathological features were compared. Among the 102 patients, 36.3% had confirmed ADs (predominantly primary Sjögren syndrome and undifferentiated connective tissue disease), 42.2% had no ADs, and 21.6% were suspected of ADs. In the confirmed AD group, 83.8% de

A Stepwise Integrative Approach to Managing a Refractory Recurrent Cervical Sialocele in a Dog.

Recurrent canine cervical sialocele is most often caused by incomplete excision of the mandibular-sublingual gland complex, leading to anatomical distortion and concealment of residual tissue. This case describes the multimodal management of a repeatedly recurrent cervical sialocele in a young, small-breed dog following multiple previous revision surgeries. A stepwise bridging strategy was adopted before definitive salvage surgery. Oral phenobarbital was instituted, resulting in partial reduction in fluid accumulation and improved comfort. Ultrasound-guided intracavitary sclerotherapy with OK-

Transient Hyperattenuating Oral Pseudolesion Mimicking Sialolithiasis Incidentally Detected on Chest Computed Tomography.

BACKGROUND Edible intraoral foreign bodies (IOFBs) such as hard candies and chewing gum are an important diagnostic pitfall on computed tomography (CT) because their attenuation often overlaps that of calcified pathology, including sialoliths. Reliance on density alone can prompt unnecessary imaging and patient anxiety. Recognition of typical locations, assessment of ductal anatomy and secondary signs, and short-interval reversibility after oral cavity clearance are key to avoiding misdiagnosis. Mouse strain and sex differences in the number and distribution of salivary gland IgA plasma cells.

OBJECTIVE: Salivary immunoglobulin A (IgA) produced by IgA plasma cells (PCs) in the salivary glands (SGs) plays a key role in maintaining immune homeostasis in the oral mucosa. We investigated differences by sex and mouse strain in salivary IgA concentration and IgA PC distribution among the major SGs. METHODS: Pilocarpine-induced saliva was collected from male and female BALB/c and C57BL/6 mice, and salivary IgA concentrations were assessed using ELISA. Cells were isolated from the parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands and analyzed using flow cytometry to quantify IgA PCs. RESULTS:
