Purpose To evaluate the performance of a new artificial intelligence (AI)-based tool by comparing the quantified stenosis severity at coronary CT angiography (CCTA) with a reference standard derived from invasive quantitative coronary angiography (QCA). Materials and Methods This secondary, post hoc analysis included 120 participants (mean age, 59.7 years ± 10.8 [SD]; 73 [60.8%] men, 47 [39.2%] women) from three large clinical trials (AFFECTS, P3, REFINE) who underwent CCTA and invasive coronary angiography with QCA. Quantitative analysis of coronary stenosis severity at CCTA was performed usi…

BACKGROUND: Dual-axis of rotational coronary angiography (RA), with one single cine acquisition during continuous C-arm motion along a pre-described path, is an alternative to conventional coronary angiography (CA). We assessed the performance of RA versus CA in a modern, experienced cath lab setting.
METHODS: Sixty-seven patients with suspected coronary artery disease undergoing invasive coronary angiography were randomized to CA (n = 35) or dual-axis RA (n = 32). CA was performed with four left and two right coronary artery acquisitions with manual contrast medium injection. In RA, one cine…

Transient cortical blindness after coronary angiography has long been reported in the literature; however, this condition remains rare until today. We report a case of transient cortical blindness after coronary angiography, bypass graft angiography, and coronary angioplasty, which was deemed to be secondary to contrast agent. A 60-year-old man who underwent prior coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) started to experience recurrence of exertional and resting chest pain one year after CABG. In addition to coronary artery disease, he has underlying type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and d…

Coronary magnetic resonance angiography (CMRA) is a technique in clinical evolution. Current clinical applications include assessment for coronary anomalies, aneurysms, bypass graft patency, and, in experienced centers, the exclusion of proximal and multivessel coronary artery disease (CAD). As local expertise increases and more extensive multicenter data become available, additional applications will be established. CMRA promises to supplement and in some cases obviate the need for X-ray contrast angiography, and to expand our understanding of the pathophysiology of CAD.

OBJECTIVES: Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is the preferred non-invasive method for excluding coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with an intermediate pre-test probability or stable CAD and often replaces invasive coronary angiography (ICA). However, patient acceptance and emotional responses to CCTA remain insufficiently studied. This study evaluated patient acceptance and emotional experiences during CCTA through patient-reported outcomes (PROs).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 151 patients with a clinical indication for CCTA underwent standardized Dual-Source CT or…

Anomalous coronary arteries with an inter-arterial course are associated with sudden cardiac death. We reported a study comparing the accuracy of fluoroscopic coronary angiography (FCA) with that of multi-slice computed tomography (MSCT) coronary angiography in determining the proximal course of anomalous coronary arteries. Twelve patients with thirteen anomalous coronary arteries had both FCA and MSCT coronary angiography were included in this study. Twelve cardiologists individually reviewed FCAs of anomalous coronary arteries and determined the proximal course of anomalous coronary arteries…

Recent developments in computed tomography technology have made imaging of the coronary arteries possible. All the same, the rapid motion and small dimensions of the coronary vessels make coronary computed tomography angiography (coronary CTA) challenging. With the last generations of 16- and 64-slice computed tomography and adequate patient preparation (which includes lowering of the heart rate), rates of sensitivity ranging from 83% to 99% and specificity between 93% and 98% have been reported for the detection of coronary artery stenoses in comparison with invasive coronary angiography. The…

Despite advances in both prevention and treatment, cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States. The current gold standard for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease is the x-ray coronary angiogram, which is both costly and associated with a small risk of morbidity. More than 1 million Americans are referred for this test annually, and despite the availability of numerous noninvasive tests to identify patients with coronary artery disease, > or =35% of patients referred for this test are found not to have disease. It therefore would be bene

PURPOSE: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of photon-counting coronary CT angiography (PCCT-CCTA) for assessing coronary artery stenosis, using invasive coronary angiography (ICA) as the reference standard.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: 90 adult patients who underwent PCCT-CCTA followed by consecutive ICA were included in this retrospective single-center study. PCCT-CCTA examinations were performed in standard-resolution or ultra-high resolution. Image quality, coronary stenosis severity, and CAD-RADS 2.0 classifications were assessed by blinded experienced radiologists. ICA findings served as the…

Coronary artery fistula is an abnormal communication between the coronary artery and either the cardiac chamber or the great vessel. In particular, the coronary-to-pulmonary artery fistula can be supplied by either one or both coronary arteries and drains to the pulmonary trunk. We report a unique case of fistula originating from both coronary arteries and draining into both sinuses of the main pulmonary artery in a 57-year-old female who experienced chronic chest pain and palpitation. Dilated and tortuous fistulas were found in coronary angiography and coronary computed tomography angiography…

BACKGROUND: Whether or not preoperative brachiocephalic angiography with left internal mammary artery (LIMA) visualization should be performed at the time of coronary angiography in patients in whom bypass grafting using LIMA is envisaged is still debated. We sought to assess the role of the routine brachiocephalic angiography artery in preventing the coronary-subclavian steal syndrome in patients who are candidates for bypass grafting using LIMA.
METHODS: Medical records of 110 patients (mean age 69.3 +/- 8.4 years) who underwent concomitant coronary angiography and brachiocephalic arteriogr…
