A Possibility to Use Selected Crop Post-Extraction Wastes to Improve the Composition of Cultivated Mushroom Pleurotus citrinopileatus.

A cultivated mushroom species, Pleurotus citrinopileatus, is becoming increasingly popular thanks to its attractive colour and medicinal properties. In this study, P. citrinopileatus was grown in a cultivation medium enriched with wheat bran (WB), thymus post-extraction waste (TPEW) and pumpkin post-extraction waste (PPEW) products. The study showed that the post-extraction wastes are a crucial factor determining the accumulation of minerals, the content/profile of low-molecular-weight organic acids (LMWOAs) and phenolic compounds in fruit bodies, thereby increasing their nutritional value. Effect of Glomus mosseae, cadmium, and elevated air temperature on main flavonoids and phenolic acids contents in alfalfa.

Global warming and heavy metal-contaminated soils co-occur in natural ecosystems. Flavonoids and phenolic acids in plants have significant antioxidant activity and free radical scavenging ability, which can quickly increase under adverse environments. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) colonization can affect the synthesis of flavonoids and phenolic acids in host plants. This study focused on the main effect of Glomus mosseae, cadmium (Cd, 8 mg kg-1 dry soils), and elevated temperature (ET, + 3 °C) on main flavonoids and phenolic acids in 120-d Medicago sativa L. (alfalfa). Elevated temperatur

Investigating the Role of Phenolic Acid Coformers in Enhancing the Physicochemical Properties of Enzalutamide Coamorphous Systems.

Coamorphous systems are gaining interest as an effective formulation strategy to improve the solubility and dissolution of poorly water-soluble drugs. This study investigates the role of phenolic acids as coformers in enhancing the physicochemical properties of enzalutamide (ENZ), a poorly soluble anticancer drug. Five phenolic acids-p-coumaric acid (CMA), ferulic acid (FRA), cinnamic acid (CNA), vanillic acid (VNA), and p-hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA)-were selected based on their glass-forming ability and potential for molecular interactions. Coamorphous systems were prepared and characterized us

Minimal enzyme cascades for the aromatic-to-aromatic upgrading of lignin monomers.

Lignin valorization is critical to the economic viability of lignocellulosic biorefineries and could serve as an additional revenue stream for the pulp and paper industry. Emergent lignin-focused biomass pretreatment processes release a variety of aromatic monomers that could be directly upgraded into value-added aromatics for use as monomers, flavors, and fragrances. To date, most biological approaches for lignin valorization use a two-stage molecular disassembly→targeted reconstruction strategy that leverages microbial funnels to route lignin monomers (>C6) into C2-C3 metabolic intermediates
