INTRODUCTION: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is a chronic, heterogeneous inflammatory disorder of the sinonasal mucosa that substantially impairs quality of life. It is characterized by T2 or non-T2 inflammatory endotypes and often coexists with asthma or aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease, complicating management due to high recurrence rates and limited disease-modifying options.
AREAS COVERED: This review evaluates emerging pharmacotherapies for CRSwNP, emphasizing targeted biologics developed from mechanistic understanding of inflammatory pathways. Approved monoclon

Angiomatous nasal polyps (ANPs), a rare subtype of inflammatory sinonasal polyps, pose a diagnostic challenge due to overlapping clinical and radiological features with other nasal tumors. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and radiological characteristics of six pathologically confirmed ANPs. Six patients diagnosed with ANPs between December 2010 and May 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. All patients presented with nasal obstruction; the mean age was 42±28.4 years. The maxillary sinus was the most frequent origin site (66.7%). On computed tomography (CT) scans, all ANPs exhibited het

BACKGROUND: Nasal polyps (NPs) are non-neoplastic, painless inflammatory lesions of the sino-nasal mucosa. Nasal polyp physiopathology is not yet fully understood. There are many potential etiologies of NP, including chronic infections, allergies, asthma, aspirin sensitivity, anatomical disorders, and genetic causes.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of our study was to immunohistochemically demonstrate the presence of mucin (MUC) receptors in chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with nasal polyps and determine the relationships between the presence of these receptors and clinical findings.

PURPOSE: Nasal polyp formation is a common sequela of prolonged chronic rhinosinusitis, but the mechanism underlying this disease state is still controversial. We compared the expressions of Cl- channels/transporters in nasal polyps with those in inferior turbinates to explore whether a deficiency in Cl- transport may participate in the pathophysiology of nasal polyp formation as in patients with cystic fibrosis.
METHODS: Nasal polyps and inferior turbinates were collected from 12 chronic rhinosinusitis patients with hypertrophic rhinitis and/or nasal polyps. Expressions of cystic fibrosis tr

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is a complex inflammatory sinonasal disease that deserves a multidisciplinary precision medicine approach. In a precision medicine model, a more pragmatic approach taking in consideration disease features that are potentially treatable should be considered.
RECENT FINDINGS: Several treatable traits in CRSwNP can be identified: from disease-related ones, to extra-ENT features, to behavioral and environmental factors. This review article summarizes primarily the recent findings of CRSwNP-related treatable traits and how they c

The signaling pathways that sustain the disease process of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) remain poorly understood. We sought to determine the expression levels of Wnt signaling genes in CRSwNP and to study the role of the Wnt pathway in inflammation and epithelial remodeling in the nasal mucosa. Microarrays and real time-quantitative polymerase chain reaction comparing gene expression in matched NPs and inferior turbinates revealed that WNT2B, WNT3A, WNT4, WNT7A, WNT7B, and FZD2 were up-regulated and that FZD1, LRP5, LRP6, and WIF1 were down-regulated in NPs. PURPOSE: A fungal etiology has been proposed to underlie severe nasal polyps (NP). Dectin-1 is an innate immune pattern recognition receptor which is involved in the recognition of some pathogenic fungi. We investigated the Dectin-1 levels in NP in order to evaluate the implication of such expression with respect to the development of NP.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Normal inferior turbinate tissues were obtained from forty patients undergoing surgery for augmentation rhinoplasty. Nasal polyp tissues were obtained from 53 patients who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery for chronic polypoid rhinosi

BACKGROUND: Intelectin-1 is a new type of Ca(2+)-dependant soluble lectin in humans that has affinity for galactofuranose in carbohydrate chains of bacterial cell walls, indicating that intelectin-1 may play a role in immune defense against bacteria. The purpose of the current study was to determine the expression of intelectin-1 mRNA and protein and to localize intelectin-1 protein in nasal polyps and tissues from control subjects.
METHODS: Normal sphenoid sinus mucosa was obtained from 10 patients undergoing surgery for pituitary tumor. Nasal polyp samples were obtained from 10 patients und

OBJECTIVE: To study the expression of phosphorylated extracellular regulator kinase (ERK1/2) on nasal polyps.
METHOD: The immunohistochemistry and Western-blot were used to study the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 on the normal nasal mucosa and nasal polyps.
RESULT: The phosphorylated ERK1/2 was mainly expressed on the hyperplastic epithelium, inflammatory cells, glandular epithelium and endothelium of nasal polyps by immunohistochemistry, which was much stronger on nasal polyps than that of normal mucosa. The expression of phosphorylated ERK1/2 was 4.2 times than that of normal mucosa.

CONCLUSION: The higher level of glucocorticoid receptor (GR) expression in cases of chronic sinusitis with bronchial asthma or allergic rhinitis suggests that glucocorticoids may exert a greater influence on eosinophils, thereby making them more effective in the treatment of polyps or chronic sinusitis.
OBJECTIVES: The GR immunoreactivity of eosinophils in nasal polyps was investigated to elucidate the mechanism by which glucocorticoids interact with eosinophils.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nasal polyp specimens were divided into 3 groups: 7 patients with chronic sinusitis alone (CS only group),

UNLABELLED: Nasal polyps, according to many authors, generate as a result of chronic inflammation process with activation of cytokines, immunological reaction mediators that regulate proliferation, differentiation and cell apoptosis. Clarifying molecular mechanisms present in those disturbances may have diagnostic and prognostic value in evaluation of recurrence, dynamics and differentiation of nasal polyps as well as in their therapy.
AIM: The aim of the work was an analysis of nasal polyps on the basis of molecular, histopathological and clinical picture as well as comparing differentiated
