Multi-omics analysis reveals polyethylene microplastics-induced gill damage, metabolic disruption and immune dysregulation in Lateolabrax maculatus.

Microplastics (MPs) are emerging environmental pollutants that can induce physiological toxicity in aquatic organisms. This study investigated the toxicological effects of dietary exposure to polyethylene microplastics (PE-MPs) on gill tissues of Lateolabrax maculatus, using diets containing 0%, 4%, and 8% (w/w) PE-MPs. Histological, transcriptomic, and biochemical analyses were performed to assess structural damage, alterations in gene expression, and changes in antioxidant and immune parameters. Histological examination revealed structural abnormalities, including bending of gill lamellae an

Omics technologies in aquafeed: unlocking the black box towards systems biology.

The aquaculture industry is undergoing a critical transition from marine-based to plant-based and novel protein sources. However, the physiological impacts of these dietary shifts remain largely obscured when evaluated solely by traditional performance metrics such as Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) and Specific Growth Rate (SGR). This 'Black Box' approach fails to detect sub-clinical metabolic disorders, gut dysbiosis, and molecular stress responses until phenotypic losses occur. This review provides a comprehensive synthesis of how omics technologies - nutrigenomics, proteomics, metabolomics, an

Multi Omics Analysis Reveals That Compound Radix Pulsatillae and Lactic Acid Bacteria Reprogram the Microbiome Metabolome Network in Oat Silage.

Oat (Avena sativa L.) silage fermentation often fails due to insufficient lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and low water-soluble carbohydrate content. We investigated the effects of Compound Radix Pulsatillae (CRP; 40 g/kg FM) alone or combined with a commercial LAB inoculant (containing L. plantarum, L. buchneri, and Enterococcus faecium, CRP_LA) on oat silage after 60 days. Compared to control (CK), both CRP and CRP_LA increased dry matter and water-soluble carbohydrate retention while reducing fiber components and ammonia nitrogen (p < 0.05). CRP_LA exhibited superior fermentation quality (lowest

Advances in spatial omics for the analysis of prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common malignancies in men and is marked by extensive clinical and molecular heterogeneity. Although genomic and transcriptomic studies have revealed recurrent alterations and lineage plasticity, these approaches lack spatial resolution and therefore cannot capture the microenvironmental context that underpins tumor progression and therapeutic resistance. Spatial omics technologies have emerged as transformative tools by integrating high-dimensional molecular profiling with preserved tissue architecture. Advances in spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, epigen

Mechanistic investigation into the differences in growth performance and resistance to spring viremia of carp virus in common carp.

INTRODUCTION: Spring viremia of carp virus (SVCV) is a highly infectious pathogen threatening common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Hence, implementing protective measures is crucial to safeguard aquatic species and minimize economic impacts, including pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and breeding of resistant varieties. Common carp is a major aquaculture species, with breeding programs primarily focused on enhancing growth performance. However, evidence indicates that accelerated growth may compromise disease resistance, suggesting a trade-off between these traits. METHODS: We challenged two carp populat

Omics analyses decoding mechanisms underlying the self-flocculating phenotype of yeast cells and stress tolerance for robust production.

A unique self-flocculating yeast strain SPSC01 was developed through protoplast fusion for fuel ethanol production with high product titers. In this study, we conducted comparative multi-omics analyses on SPSC01 to elucidate mechanisms underlying its self-flocculating phenotype and associated stress tolerance, the most desirable merit for robust production in industry. Leveraging two cutting-edge third-generation sequencing technologies, we achieved a gapless high-quality and chromosome-level assembly for the genomes of SPSC01 and its parental strains. Through comprehensive genome analyses, we

Multi-omics insights into the physiological mechanisms of bile acid accumulation in the gallbladder in brumation-like snakes.

Hibernation/brumation represents an important physiological adaptation for animals to cope with seasonal environmental changes. Field observations suggested increased gallbladder weight in the Five-pacer viper (Deinagkistrodon acutus) during brumation, and our quantitative measurements confirmed this increase together with bile acid accumulation. By integrating a multi-omic approach, this study elucidates the regulatory mechanisms of bile acid accumulation in the gallbladder during brumation. Results showed that taurocholic acid (TCA) and taurodeoxycholic acid (TDCA) were the major components

Omics-Based Sperm-Retrieval Prediction in Non-Obstructive Azoospermia: A Critical Narrative Review and Validation Framework.

In non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA), microdissection testicular sperm extraction can provide sperm for intracytoplasmic sperm injection, but retrieval fails in approximately half of procedures. Genomic, transcriptomic, noncoding RNA, proteomic, metabolomic, and microbiome studies have reported molecular associations and prediction estimates. This critical narrative review examines the requirements for an assay-model system to support preoperative retrieval counseling. A focused PubMed/MEDLINE search updated on 31 August 2026 and targeted reference checking identified representative human repo

Biomarkers in axial spondyloarthritis diagnosis: from clinical signs to multi-omics integration.

Axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) is a chronic inflammatory rheumatic disease primarily affecting the sacroiliac joints and spine, with an estimated global prevalence of 0.3-1.5%. Despite advances in classification criteria and imaging techniques, diagnostic delay remains a persistent clinical challenge, with patients waiting a median of 2-6 years from symptom onset to confirmed diagnosis. Biomarkers-broadly categorized into clinical, molecular, and imaging modalities-offer the potential to shorten this diagnostic gap by providing objective, quantifiable, and earlier indicators of disease. This

Integrated multi-omics analysis of dampness-heat gout reveals diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets.

Damp-heat gout (DHG) is a highly certified type of disease integrated with syndrome in TCM. The ambiguity of its pathomechanism and the lack of quantifiable indicators limit its clinical accurate diagnosis and treatment. This study aimed to elucidate the pathological mechanism of DHG and establish a symptom-centered diagnostic and therapeutic model. We recruited 136 participants, comprising healthy controls (HCs) and DHG patients. Serum metabolomics and proteomics analyses were performed to screen common pathways. Based on the biological significance of these common pathways, a symptom-pathway

Integrating exposomics and multi-omics with dysbiosis biomarkers for clinical and environmental connections implicated in neuropathology. Cause and cure cluses.

Multi-omic investigations into environmental effects on health and disease are aided by inclusion of microbial microbiomes with assessment of mirobes producing metabolites that differentially modulate host organ functions. The gut microbiome is key because many environmental toxicants enter the body orally and may disrupt gut microbes that help digest food, as well as the microbiome-gut-brain axis, which produces regulatory metabolites with systemic effects. Environmental stressors may differentially alter brain development and function, even among identical twins, in that over time, there may
