Accurate quantification of cell populations is essential in assessing and evaluating neural survival and degeneration in experimental groups. A total of 120 patients with advanced schistosomiasis were divided into two groups. Group A (60 patients) were treated with Anluo Huaxian Wan. Group B (60 patients) were treated with routine liver protection drugs. After 12-month treatment, not only the symptoms and abnormal signs of the patients in Group A improved greatly, but also the level of markers of hepatic fibrosis reduced significantly.

It is shown that metformin, which is a drug used for treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolizes itself in vivo in the intestine and liver of mice with the release of nitric oxide. Subsequently the released nitric oxide forms paramagnetic mono- and dinitrosyl iron complexes which can be registered by EPR method. It is suggested that nitric oxide is just responsible for multifarious therapeutic action of metformin such as lowering of blood glucose level, reduction of arterial hypertension and other biological effects.

The modification of the planar organic/inorganic interface of the hybrid light-emitting diodes by the addition of a tailored nanoporous crystalline metal oxide increases up to 1 order of magnitude the efficiency of the resulting devices. In this Letter, we present the preparation and characterization of the novel controlled 3D interface and discuss how the interaction between the metal oxide and the polymer at the interface results in such an improvement.

OBJECTIVE: To retrospectively evaluate efficiency and tolerance of intermittent self-dilatation (ISD) after unicenter internal urethrotomy (IU) on urethral strictures (US).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: From January 2000 to November 2008, ISD have been performed after IU on 54 patients; 44.4% were iatrogenic. ISD median frequency was once a week (0.25-14). ISD was carried out for a median period of 8.4 months (0-97).
