Managing Bias in the Care of Pregnant and Parenting People with Substance Use Disorder.

INTRODUCTION: Unintentional overdose is the leading cause of pregnancy-associated death in Maryland and is preventable. Stigma contributes to birthing peoples' disengagement with the health care system, and health care professionals may participate in stigmatizing processes. We aimed to develop and evaluate a training on stigma and bias related to substance use disorder (SUD) for maternal health care professionals in Maryland. METHODS: We used a community-engaged process to develop a training on stigma and bias related to SUD in pregnancy and implemented it with Maryland maternal health care

Equity-focused barriers and facilitators to implementing a prenatal yoga intervention in a healthcare system: patient and provider perspectives.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with a history of depression are at increased risk for postpartum depression. Further, racial and ethnic minority groups have higher rates of postpartum depression and are less likely to initiate mental health treatment. Prenatal yoga presents a promising avenue for preventing postpartum depression among these high-risk groups. The purpose of this study was to gather feedback from pregnant patients and healthcare professionals to identify facilitators and barriers to the equitable implementation of an 8-week prenatal yoga intervention to prevent postpartum depression.

Knowledge, attitude, and practice towards primary aldosteronism among healthcare workers in Shanxi province: a multi-center cross-sectional study.

Primary aldosteronism (PA), though affecting approximately 10% of hypertensive patients, remains significantly underdiagnosed globally, especially in resource-limited healthcare settings. Despite its clinical importance, there is a notable gap in research assessing healthcare professionals' preparedness in diagnosing and managing this condition. This study, the first of its kind in China, aimed to comprehensively evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of healthcare workers regarding PA in Shanxi Province and to identify factors associated with proactive clinical practices, with

Although 86.4% of HCP acknowledged the importance of vaccines, only 72.6% had received at least one, and just 3.9% were completely vaccinated against hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tetanus, measles-mumps-rubella, and varicella. Full vaccination rates were higher among women, physicians, outpatient clinic staff, and alcohol users but decline

How does psychoeducation help? A review of the effects of providing information about Tourette syndrome and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

Tourette syndrome (TS) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are common neurodevelopmental disorders that often co-occur. They are both stigmatized and misunderstood conditions. This review critically appraises studies examining interventions using psychoeducational approaches in TS and ADHD. Studies examining the impact of providing educational information (or diagnostic label) about TS and ADHD to parents, teachers and peers (child and adult) were identified by searching relevant electronic databases, reference lists and citations, and consulting colleagues. Twenty-two studies

Towards safer medication use in older adults: Investigating barriers and facilitators of deprescribing.

AIMS: Deprescribing, the process of stopping unnecessary medications, is essential for optimizing pharmacotherapy in older adults but is hindered by systemic, knowledge and patient-related barriers. This study explored physicians' perspectives on barriers and facilitators to deprescribing in older adults using the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF), in an LMIC setting with limited evidence. METHODS: A qualitative study was conducted using in-depth interviews with physicians (n = 52) to explore barriers, facilitators and potential improvements in deprescribing practices. Thematic analysis was

A Framework for Developing Mental Health Educational Interventions for Correctional Officers.

The overrepresentation of persons with mental illness in carceral settings has led to justifiable concerns about their wellbeing and the appropriateness of their care. Correctional officers may be the first point of recognition and management for incarcerated persons experiencing mental illness. Correctional officers thus unknowingly participate in mental health care without a formally recognized mental health care role or knowledge of mental health educational best practice standards. This article reviews the small literature linking specific factors in mental health educational interventions

Knowledge, attitudes and preventive practices towards soil-transmitted helminthiases among teachers in schools implementing the home-grown school feeding program in Enugu Metropolis, Enugu State, Nigeria.

BACKGROUND: Soil-transmitted helminthiases (STHs) are prevalent in low- and middle-income countries, impacting school-aged children significantly. Teachers, integral to STH control through the Home-Grown School Feeding Program (HGSFP), need adequate knowledge, attitudes, and preventive practices (KAP) for successful STH prevention. However, there is limited research on teacher KAP regarding STH in Enugu State, particularly concerning its endemic nature. This study assessed the KAP of primary school teachers involved in the HGSFP in Enugu Metropolis, Nigeria, aiming to inform targeted intervent

Knowledge, attitude, practice and perceived barriers towards smoking cessation services among community pharmacists.

INTRODUCTION: With more than one billion current smokers, 80% of them living in low and middle-income countries, tobacco smoking is considered a global public health problem. Jordan has one of the highest estimate rates of tobacco use in the region and world. Still, tobacco use interventions, that could significantly reduce the number of smoking-related diseases and reduce health care costs, are scarce. While such interventions could be carried out by community pharmacists, given their unique position to counsel patients and provide effective cessation interventions, the role of community phar
