INTRODUCTION: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disorder characterized by demyelination within the central nervous system. Emerging evidence suggests that plasma proteins may serve as genetically supported candidate targets, yet their underlying mechanisms in MS remain poorly understood. In this study, we applied proteome-wide Mendelian randomization (MR) to systematically identify plasma proteins that are causally associated with MS risk and to explore their potential biological roles and treatment implications.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the long-term outcome of elective splenectomy, with emphasis on the incidence of complications, vaccine immunization and patient´s knowledge about asplenia.

Trisomy 21 is common in ETV6/RUNX1-positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL); both these aberrations are associated with a favourable outcome. The prognostic impact of +21 as a sole cytogenetic change could be due to a cryptic t(12;21)(p13;q22). The occurrence of ETV6/RUNX1 was determined in 66 childhood ALLs with an acquired +21 and a chromosome number <51. A disease in wild living roe deer (Capreolus capreolus L.) caused by acid-fast bacteria is described. The morphological and cultural properties of these bacteria agree closely with corresponding properties of Mycobact. johnei. A small number of rare, recurrent genomic copy number variants (CNVs) are known to substantially increase susceptibility to schizophrenia. As a consequence of the low fecundity in people with schizophrenia and other neurodevelopmental phenotypes to which these CNVs contribute, CNVs with large effects on risk are likely to be rapidly removed from the population by natural selection.
