Novel application potential of lisdexamfetamine for visual discrimination and reversal learning improvement in rats: A translational cognitive research.

Impairments in visual discrimination and cognitive flexibility are prevalent in several neuropsychiatric disorders. Here, we explored the effects of lisdexamfetamine, the prodrug of d-amphetamine, on visual discrimination and cognitive flexibility using touchscreen-based visual discrimination and reversal learning task, a translational cross-species cognitive paradigm in rats. A single administration of 1.0 mg/kg lisdexamfetamine significantly improved the accuracy of visual discrimination. Furthermore, repeated treatment with 1.0 mg/kg lisdexamfetamine during the visual discrimination trainin

Physical activity interventions for post-stroke cognitive recovery: a systematic review and network meta-analysis of comparative effects.

BACKGROUND: Post-stroke cognitive dysfunction imposes significant burdens on individuals and healthcare systems. Although physical activity are increasingly recognized as adjunct therapies for cognitive rehabilitation, uncertainties persist regarding their comparative effectiveness. The current evidence lacks direct or indirect comparisons of physical activity programs. This study systematically evaluated the effectiveness of intervention measures through network meta-analysis, providing reference measures for cognitive function recovery in stroke populations. METHODS: We systematically searc

The Effects of High-intensity Functional Training (HIFT) on Spatial Learning, Visual Pattern Separation and Attention Span in Adolescents.

Aerobic, anaerobic, and strength exercises are known to improve various cognitive functions, such as executive functions, pattern separation, and working memory. High-intensity functional training (HIFT) is a form of physical activity that can be modified to any fitness level and elicits greater muscle recruitment than repetitive aerobic exercises, thereby improving cardiovascular endurance, strength, and flexibility. HIFT emphasizes functional, multi-joint movements via high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and muscle-strengthening exercises. It is yet unknown, however, whether HIFT affects

Patterns of change during cognitive behavioral treatment for panic disorder.

The present investigation examined patterns of change in basic features of panic and anxiety during cognitive behavioral treatment for panic disorder. Data were collected in the context of a study comparing the efficacy of cognitive therapy (CT) and relaxation training, both administered without exposure-based treatments of any kind. Thirty-six panic disorder patients completed 10 weeks of either CT or relaxation training. Weekly measures of panic frequency, state and trait anxiety, and associated fears were obtained. Data were examined using both multivariate techniques (which conceptualize c

Exercise-enhanced neuroplasticity targeting motor and cognitive circuitry in Parkinson's disease.

Exercise interventions in individuals with Parkinson's disease incorporate goal-based motor skill training to engage cognitive circuitry important in motor learning. With this exercise approach, physical therapy helps with learning through instruction and feedback (reinforcement) and encouragement to perform beyond self-perceived capability. Individuals with Parkinson's disease become more cognitively engaged with the practice and learning of movements and skills that were previously automatic and unconscious. Aerobic exercise, regarded as important for improvement of blood flow and facilitati

Cognitive Load Impairs Time to Initiate and Complete Shooting Tasks in ROTC Members.

INTRODUCTION: Multitasking typically requires an individual to simultaneously process cognitive information while performing a motor task. Cognitive motor interference (CMi) is encountered when cognitive challenges negatively impact motor task performance. Military personnel encounter cognitively taxing situations, especially during combat or other tactical performance scenarios, which may lead to injury or motor performance deficits (i.e., shooting inaccuracy, delayed stimulus-response time, and slowed movement speed). The purpose of the current study was to develop four cognitive motor shoot
