Cost utility analysis of HIV pre exposure prophylaxis among men who have sex with men in Israel.

BACKGROUND: Between 2011 and 2015, Men who have sex with men (MSM) accounted for nearly half of new HIV cases among men in Israel. This stud … elatively low HIV incidence, high PrEP costs, with a likelyhood that some low-risk MSM (ie: who use condoms) may well begin taking PrEP and as a consequence many of these will abandon condom use. Therefore, ways of minimizing these last two phenomena need to be found.

Sexual behaviour change following HIV testing services: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Learning one's HIV status through HIV testing services (HTS) is an essential step toward accessing treatment and linking to preventive services for those at high HIV risk. HTS may impact subsequent sexual behaviour, but the degree to which this varies by population or is true in the setting of contemporary HIV prevention activities is largely unknown. As part of the 2019 World Health Organization Consolidated Guidelines on HTS, we undertook a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the effect of HTS on sexual behaviour. METHODS: We searched nine electronic databases for

Baseline infection with a sexually transmitted disease is highly predictive of reinfection during follow-up in Malagasy sex workers.

Female sex workers who had prevalent chlamydial, gonococcal, or trichomonal infection at enrollment into a randomized trial in Madagascar were 2 to 4 times as likely to become infected during follow-up, compared to women without STIs at baseline, despite provision of condoms, safer sex counseling, and repeat STI testing and treatment.

Contraceptives for teenagers.

The contraceptive options suitable for teenagers are presented and discussed. Condoms have the advantage of preventing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, and oral contraceptives are probably the most effective in preventing pregnancy. Other options include the barrier contraceptives available to women, spermicides, sponges, intrauterine devices, periodic abstinence, and the morning after pill.

Adolescent contraception.

Sexual health for adolescents is based on three components: recognizing sexual rights, sexuality education and counseling, and confidential high-quality services. Contraception needs to include prevention of both STIs and pregnancy. The main options for adolescents are condoms backed-up by emergency contraception; and hormonal contraceptives in a longer, mutually monogamous relationship. Condoms and hormonal contraception together can be well recommended for adolescents. Condom use should not be stopped before it is reasonably certain that the partner is STI-negative. Other alternatives can be…

Use of a public sexually transmitted disease clinic by known HIV-positive adults: decreased self-reported risk behavior and increased disease incidence.

High-risk sexual behavior by HIV-positive individuals is an important factor contributing to the spread of the HIV epidemic. We conducted a … overreporting of condom use or sexual activity in high-risk sexual networks with inefficient use of condoms. Ongoing sexual risk behavior and access to HIV primary care are important issues in this population.

Health beliefs and promotion of HIV-preventive intentions among teenagers: a Scottish perspective.

Beliefs concerning the spread of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and preventive behaviors were examined in a sample of 351 sexually active Scottish teenagers. A postal questionnaire, including measures of variables specified by the health belief model (HBM) and preventive intentions, was employed. The relation between HBM measures and reported endorsement of HIV-preventive intentions was investigated. Results indicated that, in general, respondents intended to use condoms with new sexual partners. The majority also intended to carry condoms if they thought they might have sex with a new…

Accelerating HIV Prevention in Cameroon: Factors Associated with Sexual Risk Behaviours and Increased HIV Exposure Among 15-19-Year-Old Adolescent Girls.

Adolescent girls in Cameroon face substantial sexual and reproductive health vulnerabilities that heighten their risk of HIV exposure. Using data from 2,586 adolescent girls aged 15-19 years from the 2017-18 Cameroon Population-based HIV Impact Assessment, we examined factors associated with multiple sexual partnerships, age-disparate sex, inconsistent condom use, transactional sex, and a composite measure of high-risk sex. Overall, 4.31% reported multiple partners, 25.18% engaged in age-disparate sex, 27.06% reported inconsistent condom use, 3.91% engaged in transactional sex, and 19.61% exhi

Evaluating the Cultural Adaptation of Evidence-Based HIV Prevention Interventions for African Immigrant Women: Exploratory Pilot Mixed-Methods Study.

African-born Black women living in the US experience markedly higher rates of HIV diagnosis than their US-born counterparts, with condom use and PrEP remaining underutilized despite their effectiveness. Existing HIV prevention interventions for African-born Black women are limited in scope; some lack cultural tailoring, linguistic appropriateness, and most not do include PrEP. Using the ADAPT-ITT model, we culturally adapted two evidence-based interventions for US Black women-Sister-to-Sister and Sisters Informing Sisters about Topics on AIDS (SISTA)-to increase condom use and PrEP uptake amon
