INTRODUCTION: The latest technical developments of minimally invasive thoracic surgery are characterized by robotic-assisted operative procedures. Robotic-assisted thymectomy is the most advanced method in this field.
METHODS: A systematic literature search (PubMed, Medline) was carried out and the databank system of Intuitive Surgical (Sunnyvale, CA) was analysed. Target criteria were the analysis of the quantitative data over time, technical advantages and limiting factors of robotic-assisted thoracic surgery.

BACKGROUND: The objective of this research was to evaluate the feasibility of robotic nerve-sparing radical parametrectomy for cervical cancer after simple hysterectomy.
METHODS: A 41 year-old patient was diagnosed with invasive cervical adenocarcinoma after simple hysterectomy. Hysterectomy margins were negative. A robotic nerve-sparing radical parametrectomy was offered and performed 5 weeks later.
RESULTS: Total operating time was 330 min, blood loss was 145 ml and length of hospitalization 2 days. Pathology revealed no residual tumour. Normal bladder function resumed on postoperative day

Robotic surgery is gaining acceptance in the management of diverse urological disorders. Any minimally invasive procedure carries a risk of open conversion either for complications or unexpected intraoperative findings, but the additional dexterity of robotic instrumentation may allow even complex situations to be managed laparoscopically. We report the case of an upper tract transitional cell carcinoma discovered at the time of robotic nephroureterectomy to be invading the duodenum that was successfully excised robotically.
