Myoepithelial neoplasms of the soft tissues are a rare, heterogeneous group of tumors for which classification continues to evolve. While well defined within salivary glands, they can also arise in viscera and soft tissues, where diagnosis is challenging due to the lack of clinical and pathological familiarity. We describe two occurrences of nontrophoblastic mesenchymal tumors of the placenta. The first placental tumor was found along the placental margin, and the second was identified close to the insertion of the fetal membranes along the placental disc. The author reports a very rare case of a gastrointestinal stromal tumor in the uterus. A 74-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of pelvic pain. Imaging modalities showed a large tumor of the posterior aspect of the uterus, and enucleation was performed. The tumor was attached to the posterior uterus, similar to subserosal leiomyoma. OBJECTIVES: To review the diagnosis and therapeutic management of scrotal wall smooth muscle tumors by reporting an illustrative case. Nine cases of a previously undescribed benign soft tissue tumor are reported. They were composed of variable amounts of benign smooth muscle and mature adipose tissue. Patient ages ranged from 28 to 73 years. BACKGROUND: Signet ring adenocarcinoma is a recently characterized entity occurring in the minor salivary glands. All reported cases have occurred in minor salivary gland. Pure signet ring adenocarcinoma of a major salivary gland has not been reported in the literature.
METHODS: A 38-year-old woman presented with a mass in the parotid region. Microscopy showed signet ring cells positive for mucicarmine.
