Impact of sleep quality on work-related musculoskeletal disorders among nurses: a structural equation model integrating psychosocial factors.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are highly prevalent among nurses and threaten workforce stability. Although sleep disturbance is known to be associated with WMSDs, the psychosocial pathways underlying this relationship remain poorly understood. This study aims to examine whether sense of agency and perceived social support mediate the relationship between sleep quality and WMSDs among hospital nurses, using a structural equation modeling approach. METHODS: A convenience sample of staff nurses was recruited from six tertiary hospitals in three Chinese

Nutritional Knowledge and Practices of Low-Income Women During Pregnancy: A Qualitative Study in Two Oaxacan Cities.

BACKGROUND: Adequate dietary intake is critical for healthy pregnancies. Recent changes in social services in Mexico, coupled with high levels of food insecurity, call into question whether expecting women of the lowest socioeconomic status are able to meet their dietary and nutritional needs in this changing context. The aim of this study was to explore the nutritional practices, education and received and employed among women during their pregnancy. METHODS: Guided by Ecological Systems Theory and an Intersectionality Framework, this qualitative study was carried out in Oaxaca City and Puer

The association between mindfulness and social anxiety in university students: the chain mediation role of rumination and self-compassion.

BACKGROUND: This study examined the association between mindfulness and social anxiety among university students and tested the chain mediating roles of self-compassion and rumination. METHODS: Using random sampling and online surveys, 860 university students (465 males and 395 females) completed self-report measures of mindfulness, social anxiety, rumination, and self-compassion. Structural equation modeling was used to test the proposed relationships. RESULTS: Mindfulness was significantly associated with lower social anxiety. Self-compassion and rumination mediated this relationship. Spec

Social disadvantage during pregnancy: effects on gestational age and birthweight.

OBJECTIVE: Whether psychosocial adversity during pregnancy impacts fetal health outcomes at birth remains underexplored. This is a critical issue given significant social disadvantage and psychosocial stress faced by pregnant women worldwide. STUDY DESIGN: Measures of social disadvantage and psychological factors, and medical/reproductive and nutritional health status in pregnant women were obtained at each trimester. Using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), we investigated the relationship of forms of adversity to each other and to infant gestational age, and birthweight. RESULTS: Among 39

The Impact of COVID-19 on High School Student-Athlete Experiences with Physical Activity, Mental Health, and Social Connection.

COVID-19 restrictions led to reduced levels of physical activity, increased screen usage, and declines in mental health in youth; however, in-depth understandings of the experiences of high school student-athletes have yet to be explored. To describe the experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic on student-athletes' physical activity, social connection, and mental health, 20 high school student-athletes living in Calgary, Alberta participated in semi-structured interviews, designed using phenomenography. Participants reported variations in physical activity, social connections, and mental health wh

Learning Disabilities and Low Social Status: The Role of Peer Academic Reputation and Peer Reputation of Teacher Liking.

Although many studies have found that children with learning disabilities (LD) are less liked by peers than children without LD, the results are not unequivocal. In the present study, we investigated the social status (in terms of likeability and popularity) of children with LD by considering peer academic reputation and peer reputation of teacher liking. These variables are potentially important alternative factors for differences in social status between children with and without LD. Fifth-grade students ( n = 1,453; Mage = 10.60) in 58 classes in the Netherlands completed peer nominations f

Mediating and moderating effects of social support in the study of child abuse and adult physical and mental health.

A number of cross-sectional and a few longitudinal studies have shown a developmental relationship between child abuse and adult physical and mental health. Published findings also suggest that social support can lessen the risk of adverse outcomes for some abused children. However, few studies have investigated whether social support mediates or moderates the relationship between child abuse and adult physical and mental health. Structural equation modeling was used to examine data on these topics from a longitudinal study of more than 30 years. While a latent construct of physical and emotio

Feedback, competition, and cooperation: Behavioral effects of gamification elements in individual and team settings.

Gamification aims to increase user motivation and engagement by incorporating game design elements into non-game contexts. This study examines how two commonly used gamification elements (progress bars and leaderboards) shape user engagement and contribution behaviors within different participation structures (individual and team-based), drawing on Self-Determination Theory and Social Interdependence Theory as interpretive frameworks. A six-condition experimental design (N = 219) was implemented on an online interaction platform (Board) designed by the researchers, comparing leaderboards, prog

Culturally shaped self-stigma among lung cancer survivors in Japan.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to clarify the experiential structure of social stigma among lung cancer survivors in Japan. We pay particular attention to culturally shaped identity and interpersonal experiences. The experience of being stigmatized refers to a situation in which the individual feels that they are being viewed as "lung cancer patients," and the feelings, thoughts, and actions that accompany this experience. METHODS: The participants were 17 lung cancer survivors. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore their experiences of cancer-related stigma. Data were analyzed usin

Spatially explicit assessment of multihazard exposure in the Zagros forests of Iran: the role of canopy structure in the exposure component of forest vulnerability.

Mountain forests face increasing threats from interacting climatic, environmental, and socioecological stressors, yet most vulnerability assessments still use single-hazard approaches that overlook cumulative environmental risk. This limitation is especially important in Iran's Zagros forests, where climate change and human pressures are accelerating ecological consequences. We developed a spatially explicit multihazard exposure framework to quantify forest exposure to multiple environmental stressors and assess its relationship with canopy-cover structure. Nine environmental and socioecologic

The Emotion Regulation Questionnaire-30 (ERQ-30): A 30-item measure of 10 clinically relevant emotion regulation strategies.

People use different strategies to regulate their emotions, and these emotion regulation patterns have important implications for mental health. For over two decades, the most widely used tool for assessing emotion regulation has been the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, a 10-item measure of cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression. Here, we introduce a new 30-item version-the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire-30 (ERQ-30). Built on the conceptual foundation of the process model of emotion regulation, the ERQ-30 aims to advance emotion regulation assessments by capturing a more comprehe

Advancing Narcolepsy Advocacy: Bridging Patient Narratives and Systemic Change.

We introduce the Stigma-to-Structure Advocacy Framework, a novel, evidence-based model designed to transform narcolepsy advocacy by systematically bridging patient narratives with structural change. Narcolepsy remains a profoundly underdiagnosed and misunderstood neurological disorder, with persistent diagnostic delays and pervasive cultural stigma undermining patient well-being and access to care. Despite recent progress in awareness and support, advocacy efforts remain fragmented and insufficiently integrated with health policy, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. This perspect

America's First Memorial Honoring Survivors of Sexual Violence.

Over the past two decades, America taken part of a broader global trend of "memorial mania" in which memorials dedicated to remembering injustice have exploded into public space. Memorials that facilitate the centering of marginalized narratives of violence hold significant power for social change. This article focuses on one such space: The Survivors Memorial in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Survivors Memorial opened in October 2020 and is the first public memorial honoring survivors of sexual violence. Despite the progress of the anti-rape and feminist movements as well as a variety of legal i

Development and validation of a shortened version of the Child Abuse Self Report Scale (CASRS-12) in the Arabic language.

BACKGROUND: All available scales to screen for child abuse may be challenging to administer due to their length. Indeed, a higher number of items is associated with more administration time and less motivation to engage in responding. We aimed through this study to examine the psychometric properties of a brief Arabic version of the Child Abuse Self Report Scale (CASRS-12) in terms of factorial structure, internal consistency, divergent validity, and correlations with measures of bullying victimization, eating attitudes and perceived social support. METHODS: We performed a cross-sectional, we

Decentering, rumination, cognitive defusion, and psychological flexibility in people with chronic pain.

The psychological flexibility model appears to be useful for organizing research into chronic pain. One component of the model is called "cognitive defusion." A process referred to as decentering, measured by the Experiences Questionnaire (EQ), appears similar to cognitive defusion. The purpose of this study is to extend previous investigations of the EQ, to evaluate its factor structure, and examine both indirect and direct roles for decentering in relation to key clinical outcomes. 352 people seeking pain treatment participated in this study. All completed the EQ and standard measures of dai

Examining the dimensionality of combat-related posttraumatic stress and depressive symptoms in treatment-seeking OEF/OIF/OND veterans.

BACKGROUND: This study examined the factor structure of two of the most commonly used screening measures of posttraumatic stress disorder and depression in 164 treatment-seeking veterans who served in Operations Enduring Freedom/Iraqi Freedom/New Dawn (OEF/OIF/OND). METHODS: Exploratory factor analysis was used to assess the dimensionality of items from the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist-Military Version (PCL-M) and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Regression analyses were then conducted to examine associations between factor scores of the resulting factor solution and mea

[Personality traits of men with Klinefelter syndrome and their partners].

The aim of the study was to find whether personality traits of men with Klinefelter syndrome and their partners (group 1-n = 17) differ from those of couples affected by idiopathic infertility (group 2; n = 16) and from those of fertile couples (group 3 n = 17). We further investigated the attitudes of the three groups towards pregnancy, labour and sexuality to find potential différences among the three groups. Besides, we verified the hypotheses of below average or low average intelligence of men with Klinefelter syndrome, and of inferior quality of social life in these men. The data were col
