Calcified chondroid mesenchymal neoplasm (CCMN) is a rare, recently defined tumor characterized by mesenchymal tissue with chondroid features and calcification. It typically harbors an FN1 fusion and shows a predilection for the temporomandibular joint and distal extremities. CCMN is benign and has not been associated with malignant behavior. We present the case of a 61-year-old woman with an eight-year history of a progressively enlarging, palpable mass in the left parotid region, associated with ipsilateral hearing loss and facial palsy. Imaging studies, including computed tomography (CT) an

This retrospective study aimed to analyze changes in the mandibular angle, based on the ostectomy level of the proximal segment following intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy (IVRO) for mandibular setback in 40 patients with mandibular prognathism, using three-dimensional reconstruction images obtained from cone-beam computed tomography. The ostectomy level of the proximal segment was categorized into two groups based on the distance from the gonion to the ostectomy site: within 5 mm and over 5 mm. A statistically significant increase in the mandibular angle was observed in both hard and soft ti

Thin films made of deformable micro- and nano-units, such as biological membranes, polymer interfaces, and particle-laden liquid surfaces, exhibit a complex behavior during drying, with consequences for various applications like wound healing, coating technologies, and additive manufacturing. Studying the drying dynamics and structural changes of soft colloidal films thus holds the potential to yield valuable insights to achieve improvements for applications. In this study, interfacial monolayers of core-shell (CS) microgels with varying degrees of softness are employed as model systems and to

BACKGROUND: There are multiple treatment methods for odontogenic sinusitis (OS); however, the optimal treatment remains unclear.
AIMS/OBJECTIVE: To determine the cure rate of OS after tooth extraction and the factors contributing to the cure.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We prospectively identified 37 patients diagnosed with OS with an indication for causative tooth extraction. Before and three months after tooth extraction, the patients were assessed using sinus computed tomography and classified as either cured or uncured based on the absence or presence of soft tissue shadow in the maxillary sin

Background: Ewing sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor (ES/PNET) is a soft tissue malignancy arising from the neuroectoderm. While the locations of these extraskeletal manifestations are diverse, origin from the small bowel and small bowel mesentery is extremely rare. Intra-abdominal manifestations of ES/PNETs are nonspecific, and patients present with a wide range of symptoms, most frequently vague abdominal pain. Case Report: A 66-year-old female initially presented with vague and nonspecific symptoms of hypotension, anemia, dyspnea, and coffee-ground emesis. Imaging workup with computed

Prostate cancer (PC) is prone to bone metastases, but very rarely it can spread to soft tissues. In the head and neck region, PC can metastasize to the orbital soft tissue, causing various symptoms such as vision loss. In this report, we describe the case of a 79-year-old man with PC metastasis in the orbital apex. He presented to an ophthalmologist at our hospital with progressively worsening vision in his left eye over 3 to 4 months. He complained of a drooping eyelid in the same eye; thus, intracranial disease was suspected. Closer inspection with head computed tomography revealed a space-o

Persistent Mullerian duct syndrome is a rare entity and usually presents with common symptoms of undescended testis and hernia. The syndrome is caused by an insufficient amount of Mullerian inhibiting substance or due to the insensitivity of the target organ to Mullerian inhibiting substance. Polysplenia is a rare congenital disease manifested by multiple small accessory spleens. The association of these two entities, Persistent Mullerian duct syndrome and polysplenia, is rare and has not been reported in the literature. We reported a case of a 27 years old male presented with complains of rig

Titanium micro-mesh implants are widely used in orbital wall reconstructions because they have several advantageous characteristics. However, the rough and irregular marginal spurs of the cut edges of the titanium mesh sheet impede the efficacious and minimally traumatic insertion of the implant, because these spurs may catch or hook the orbital soft tissue, skin, or conjunctiva during the insertion procedure. In order to prevent this problem, we developed an easy method of inserting a titanium micro-mesh, in which it is wrapped with the aseptic transparent plastic film that is used to pack su

BACKGROUND: Intramuscular myxoma is a rare benign soft tissue tumour of mesenchymal origin, which appears as a painless mass of slow growth. Early diagnosis is important in order to differentiate it from other entities, especially soft tissue sarcoma.
CLINICAL CASES: Two cases, both women with a mean age of 52.5 years (range 40-65) are presented. The first was seen due to growth of a gluteal mass, and the second by coccydynia. Computed tomography and nuclear magnetic resonance were the diagnostic tests of choice. In one case, where there was a single but large lesion, radical extirpation of t

Repetitive brief episodes of soft-tissue collapse within the upper airway during sleep characterize obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), an extremely common and disabling disorder. Failure to maintain the patency of the upper airway is caused by the combination of sleep-related loss of compensatory dilator muscle activity and aerodynamic forces promoting closure. The prediction of soft-tissue movement in patient-specific airway 3D mechanical models is emerging as a useful contribution to clinical understanding and decision making. Such modeling requires reliable estimations of the pharyngeal wall pr

Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a benign but locally aggressive and destructive disease originating in the synovial membranes. It is a proliferative disorder of unknown etiology. Involvement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is very rare. Computed tomography clearly reveals areas of lytic bone erosion and sclerosis, and also clearly defines the extent of the tumor which is the focal areas of hyperdensity within the soft-tissue mass. Magnetic resonance images invariably show profound hypointensity on both T1- and T2-weighted sequences due to hemosiderin pigmentation. Additionally,

Pilomatricoma, also known as calcifying epithelioma of Malherbe, is an asymptomatic, slow-growing, benign dermal neoplasm that originates from hair cortex cells. The most common sites are the head and neck (68.2%), followed by the trunk (14.4%) and the upper (15.3%) and lower (2%) extremities. The majority (60%-70%) of tumors develop in the first 2 decades of life. A typical pilomatricoma presents as a firm, calcified, dermal nodule appearing as a solid mass in subcutaneous tissue on computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging. This article describes the case of a 42-year-old man who pres

We report an unusual case of spinal Langerhans' cell histiocytosis of the cervicothoracic junction in a young adult man. A 17-year-old male was referred to our institution with a 3-week history of cervicothoracic pain associated to a weakness of his right upper limb. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed a collapsed T1 vertebral body with epidural soft tissue showing mass effect on spinal cord. The patient underwent a classic anterior cervicotomy. Complete removal of the lesion could be achieved, but the soft consistency of C7 and T2 body precluded a solid anterior fixation
