The prosthetic management of the edentulous patient has long been a major challenge. Complete maxillary and mandibular dentures have been the traditional standard of care. However, most of the patients report problems adapting to their mandibular denture due to a lack of comfort, retention, stability and inability to masticate. Implant-supported overdentures have been a common treatment for edentulous patients for the past 20 years and predictably achieve good clinical results. Implant supported overdentures offer many practical advantages over conventional complete dentures and removable part

PURPOSE: Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis impairs jaw function, limiting mouth opening, speech, and mastication, and rendering airway access high-risk. In patients with syndromic conditions such as Pierre Robin Sequence (PRS) and Klippel-Feil Syndrome (KFS), ankylosis presents additional challenges due to airway compromise, restricted mandibular growth, and complex skeletal abnormalities. In addition, predicting the ability to advance the mandible using a prosthesis may be challenging due to anatomic factors.
METHODS: We report the case of an 18-year-old female with TMJ ankylosis, PRS,

AIM: Residual ridges change in shape and reduce in size due to alveolar bone resorption. Therefore, the purpose was to investigate changes in denture base thickness (DBT) and interocclusal rest space (IRS) with regard to the denture relining procedure.
METHODS: The IRS and DBT were measured (before and after denture relining) in the case of 74 patients and their removable dental prostheses by using a precise sliding gauge. The DBT measuring was performed in 6 points for maxillary and in 3 points for mandibular removable dental prosthesis. The IRS values were measured as the distance (in mm) b

INTRODUCTION: The jaw with severe bone atrophy is a difficult challenge when rehabilitating with dental implants. To be able to place dental implants in the most severe cases and to achieve an increase in bone volume by means of the tension transmitted by the load is a novelty. This work provides data on the alveolar bone changes in a severely atrophic mandible that has been treated with implant supported prosthesis under progressive loading protocol.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study reported on 3 patients with completely edentulous mandible. In all cases, implants were inserted in the anteri

Disharmony between the skeletal support and the softtissue envelope is a common cause of aesthetic concerns regarding the lower face. A loss of volume or a genetically small mandible affects the aesthetics and function of the mouth, chin, and neck. Because of the limitations of correcting such problems with current implants made of silicone or porous polyethylene, the author developed an implant system and a method of restoring the entire volume of the mandible called the mandibular matrix implant system. This implant system is made of high-density porous polyethylene and is composed of an art

BACKGROUND: Edentulism remains a prevalent condition worldwide, significantly compromising masticatory efficiency, quality of life, and oral health. Various implant-retained and implant-supported prosthetic options have been developed to address mandibular edentulism, yet their biomechanical performance under functional loading remains incompletely understood.
AIM: To compare stress distribution among seven prosthetic designs for the edentulous mandible: two-implant bar and locator overdentures; four-implant bar and locator overdentures; an anterior fixed-posterior removable prosthesis retain

INTRODUCTION: Patients with Craniofacial Microsomia (CFM) mandibles Types I/IIa benefit from combined LeFort 1 osteotomy and Mandibular Distraction Osteogenesis (LeFort + MDO); Type IIb from LeFort + MDO or Bimaxillary osteotomy (BiMax); and Type III from BiMax (with 50% of cases having preceding mandibular procedures, including patient-fitted prosthesis); as seen in Part 1. This leads to the question how maxillary and mandibular hypoplasia are correlated and influence the types of maxillary correction.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective chart study was conducted including patients diagnos

Abstract This clinical report describes the oral rehabilitation of a 15-year-old male patient who was involved in a snowmobile accident and suffered multiple mid-face and mandibular fractures. Consequences of the accident included avulsion of teeth numbers 5 to 10 and 21 to 26, and a significant amount of maxillary and mandibular anterior alveolar bone loss. The patient underwent open reduction and rigid fixation of the fractured left zygoma, comminuted LeFort I maxillary fracture, and left body of the mandible; closed reduction of the bilateral condylar fractures; autologous corticocancellous

In this study, 26 mandibular edentulous patients with severe atrophy alveolar ridge were treated by the extensional labiobucco-lingual flange complete denture prosthesis that were made by way of expanding the impression in which the external oblique ridge area, the genial tubercles, mental protuberance and more sublingual area are partially included. The results show that in retention, stability and support are better than the conventional lower complete denture. The masticatory efficiency, the bite force and the denture bearing area are much improved. There is no significant change in the hei

OBJECTIVE: To present a case where bilateral mandibular tori complicated prosthetic rehabilitation and to discuss the etiology, clinical features and management of this anatomical variant based on a review of current literature.
CASE REPORT: A 45-year-old female presented with gingival bleeding and lower anterior tooth mobility. Clinical and radiographic examination revealed chronic periodontitis, missing teeth (#35, #36, #37, #46) and bilateral, lobulated mandibular tori. The left torus was surgically removed under local anesthesia using a chisel and mallet to facilitate the fabrication of a

Over eruption of maxillary molar is a common finding seen in cases with loss of mandibular antagonist. We came across a periodontally compromised patient with same condition demanding intrusion for the placement of a prosthesis for a missing molar. So an effort was made to design a wire framework bonded directly to the adjacent teeth, to which elastics were engaged to facilitate intrusion.

Several impression techniques and theories have been developed for implant-retained overdentures, each with its own set of advantages and limitations. This study aimed to assess the chewing efficiency of mandibular implant-retained overdentures fabricated using three distinct impression techniques (mucofunctional, selective, and minimal pressure impression techniques). Twenty-six patients with complete edentulism free from any oral or systemic disease were selected to participate in the study. Three complete mandibular implant-retained overdentures were constructed for each patient, and groupe

INTRODUCTION: Anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (EAD) is an inherited syndrome with an incidence of one per 100,000 live births and is characterized by hypotrichosis, anhidrosis or hypohidrosis, and oligodontia. Various treatment options for the dental rehabilitation of children presenting with this disease have been published. There is however no consensus on what age implants should be placed. Our purpose was to describe the disease and rehabilitation with early implants through two case reports.
OBSERVATION: Our two patients, a brother and sister, aged 14 and 15 years respectively, presented

Total alloplastic temporomandibular joint (TMJ) reconstruction is a reliable treatment modality in patients with severely diseased TMJ with good clinical behaviour. TMJ mandibular function after alloplastic reconstruction has scarcely been analysed as a biomechanical parameter and investigation has generally been limited to interincisal measurements without deeper insight into joint kinematics. Dynamic stereometry to assess condylar movements relative to the fossa was performed at the 5 year follow-up of a patient who underwent condylar resection of the right TMJ followed by total alloplastic
