Ferroelectric field-effect transistors, which rely on ferroelectric polarization reversal to modulate the channel resistance, hold great promise for nonvolatile memory and neuromorphic computing. The polarization switching dynamics are critical for achieving high-speed, high-bit-density neuromorphic hardware. Here, we report a 1D-2D asymmetric heterojunction composed of a single-element tellurium (Te) nanowire and a magnetic metal, Fe3GaTe2. Piezoresponse force microscopy reveals reversible polarization switching at room temperature. Utilizing this ferroelectric heterojunction, we construct fe

This study demonstrates a dynamically programmable metasurface leveraging germanium-antimony-tellurium (GST) for multi-channel holographic and optical encryption. By integrating a GST thin film with gallium arsenide nanostructures, non-volatile switching between near-field reflection and far-field diffraction modes is achieved via reversible GST phase transitions. Under y-polarized illumination in the crystalline state, the metasurface produces near-field amplitude-encoded images ("A", "B", "C") at wavelengths of 400 nm, 600 nm, and 800 nm. Conversely, under x-polarized illumination in the amo

The effects of the incorporation of oxygen, sulfur, selenium, and tellurium into the porphyrin core over nitrogen have been explored using density functional theory (DFT) and its time-dependent and quadratic response implementations (TDDFT and QR-TDDFT). The aim was to investigate how substitution affects the photophysical properties of these dyes and how such modifications could make them more suitable to be proposed as heavy-atom-free agents in photodynamic therapy (PDT). The photophysical properties assessed in our investigation, relevant for the PDT mechanism, allow us to establish that ch

A localized Zeeman field, intensified at heterostructure interfaces, could play a crucial role in a broad area including spintronics and unconventional superconductors. Conventionally, the generation of a local Zeeman field is achieved through magnetic exchange coupling with a magnetic material. However, magnetic elements often introduce defects, which could weaken or destroy superconductivity. Alternatively, the coupling between a superconductor with strong spin-orbit coupling and a nonmagnetic chiral material could serve as a promising approach to generate a spin-active interface. Here, we l

Objective. In photon counting detectors (PCDs), electric pulses induced by two or more x-ray photons can pile up and result in count losses when their temporal separation is less than the detector dead time. The correction of pulse pile-up-induced count loss is particularly difficult for paralyzable PCDs since a given value of recorded counts can correspond to two different values of true photon interactions. In contrast, charge (energy) integrating detectors work by integrating collected electric charge induced by x-rays over time and do not suffer from pile-up losses. This work introduces an

Colloidal semiconductor ternary CdTeS magic-size clusters (MSCs) have not been reported. Here, we present the first synthesis of CdTeS MSCs at room temperature and our understanding of the evolution pathway. The MSCs exhibit sharp optical absorption peaking at 381 nm and are labeled MSC-381. CdTeS MSC-381 evolves when pre-nucleation-stage samples of binary CdTe and CdS that do not contain quantum dots (QDs) are separately prepared and then mixed and incubated at room temperature. We propose that CdTeS MSC-381 evolves from its precursor compound (PC) via quasi-isomerization. Synchrotron-based s

Light-emitting diodes (LED) based on silicon platforms and CdTe quantum dots (QDs) are an important area of research. Due to poor charge balance in QD layers, reduced graphene oxide (RGO) was introduced between the P-Si substrate and CdTe QDs. To further improve the performance of the QDs-LED, Au nanorods (NRs) were incorporated into the hole transport layer. A finite-difference time-domain simulation was used to discuss theoretically the influence of RGO and Au NRs on the LED performance, and investigate the influence of substrate on the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) coupling wav

Realizing efficient solid-state luminescence is of great important to expand quantum dots (QDs) application fields. This work reports the preparation of CdTe@BaCO3 composite by a one-pot precipitation method. Both steady-state PL and PL decay characteristics in either solid-state or colloid solution show no obvious difference, mainly benefited from the effective protection of BaCO3 on QDs from the external environment. By utilizing green and red CdTe QDs as dual-color emission centers, precise emitting-color control from green (0.312, 0.667) to red (0.691, 0.292) could be achieved in CdTe@BaCO

It is now common practice in environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) to conduct sensitivity analyses to identify critical parameters and prioritize further research. Typical approaches include variation of input parameters one at a time to determine the corresponding variation in characterized midpoints or normalized and weighted end points. Generally, those input parameters that cause the greatest variations in output criteria are accepted as the most important subjects of further investigation. However, in comparative LCA of emerging technologies, the typical approach to sensitivity analys

A two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals material composed only of tellurium (Te) atoms-tellurene-is drawing attention because of its high intrinsic electrical conductivity and strong interaction with gas molecules, which could allow the development of high-performance chemiresistive sensors. However, the correlation between the morphologies and gas detection properties of tellurene has not yet been studied in depth, and few reports exist on tellurene-based hydrogen sulfide (H2S) chemiresistive sensors in spite of their strong interaction with H2S molecules. Here, we investigate the morphology-dep

Novel representative 2D materials of the Janus type family X-M-ZN2 are studied. These materials are hybrids of a transition metal dichalcogenide and a material from the MoSi2N4 family, and they were constructed and optimized from the MoSi2N4 monolayer by the substitution of SiN2 group on one side by chalcogen atoms (sulfur, selenium, or tellurium), and possibly replacing molybdenum (Mo) to tungsten (W) and/or silicon (Si) to germanium (Ge). The stability of novel materials is evaluated by calculating phonon spectra and binding energies. Mechanical, electronic, and optical characteristics are c

The combination of multiple quantum dots (QDs) in a multi-emitter nanoprobe can be envisaged as a promising sensing scheme, as it enables obtaining a collective response of individual emitters towards a given analyte and allows for achieving specific analyte-response profiles. The processing of these profiles using adequate chemometric methods empowers a more sensitive, reliable and selective determination of the target analyte. In this work, we developed a kinetic fluorometric method consisting of a dual CdTe/AgInS2 quantum dots photoluminescence probe for the determination of acetylsalicylic

The estimation of the characteristic parameters of the electrical contacts in CdZnTe and CdTe detectors is related to the identification of the main transport mechanisms dominating the currents. These investigations are typically approached by modelling the current-voltage (I-V) curves with the interfacial layer-thermionic-diffusion (ITD) theory, which incorporates the thermionic emission, diffusion and interfacial layer theories into a single theory. The implementation of the ITD model in measured I-V curves is a critical procedure, requiring dedicated simplifications, several best fitting pa

BACKGROUND: Quantum dots (QDs) have gained increased attention for their extensive biomedical and electronic products applications. Due to the high priority of QDs in contacting the circulatory system, understanding the hemocompatibility of QDs is one of the most important aspects for their biosafety evaluation. Thus far, the effect of QDs on coagulation balance haven't been fully understood, and limited studies also have yet elucidated the potential mechanism from the perspective of interaction of QDs with coagulation-related proteins.
RESULTS: QDs induced the derangement of coagulation bala

In this study, we aimed to increase the knowledge regarding the response mechanisms which were associated with the formation of CdS thin films. CdS thin film remains the most appealing alternative for many researchers, as it has been a capable buffer material for effect in film based polycrystalline solar cells (CdTe, CIGSe, CZTS). The Linker Assisted and Chemical Bath Deposition (LA-CBD) technique, which combines the Linker Assisted (LA) technique and the chemical bath deposition (CBD) method for forming high quality CdS thin film, was presented as an efficient and novel hybrid sensitization

Inorganic-based thin-film photovoltaics (TFPV) represents an important component of the growing low-carbon energy market and plays a vital role in the drive toward lower cost and increased penetration of solar energy. Yet, commercialized thin-film absorber technologies suffer from some non-ideal characteristics, such as toxic or non-abundant element use (e.g., CdTe and Cu(In,Ga)(S,Se)2, which bring into question their suitability for terawatt deployment. Numerous promising chalcogenide, halide, pnictide and oxide semiconductors are being pursued to bridge these concerns for TFPV and several pr

PURPOSE: In breast imaging applications, cadmium telluride (CdTe) photon counting x-ray detectors (PCDs) may reduce radiation dose and enable single-shot multi-energy x-ray imaging. The purpose of this work is to determine the upper limits of the detective quantum efficiency (DQE) of CdTe PCDs for x-ray mammography and to compare them with the published DQEs of energy-integrating detectors (EIDs) and other PCDs.
METHODS: We calibrated and validated a Monte Carlo (MC) model of the DQE of CdTe PCDs using an XCounter CdTe PCD. Our model accounted for charge sharing, electronic noise, and charge
