En Face Optical Coherence Tomography and Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography for the Diagnosis and Monitoring of Syphilitic Posterior Placoid Chorioretinopathy.

Purpose: To describe a case of syphilitic posterior placoid chorioretinopathy, a rare ocular manifestation of syphilis requiring prompt diagnosis and treatment. Methods: A single case was evaluated. Results: Multimodal imaging including spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), en face OCT, and OCT angiography (OCTA), were used to confirm a diagnosis in a patient presenting with symptoms of syphilitic posterior placoid chorioretinopathy. SD-OCT showed nodular hyperreflective thickening of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), an attenuated ellipsoid zone, loss of the outer segment

Combining Optical Coherence Tomography and Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Longitudinal Data for the Detection of Visual Field Progression in Glaucoma.

PURPOSE: To use longitudinal optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA) data to detect glaucomatous visual field (VF) progression with a supervised machine learning approach. DESIGN: Prospective cohort study. METHODS: One hundred ten eyes of patients with suspected glaucoma (33.6%) and patients with glaucoma (66.4%) with a minimum of 5 24-2 VF tests and 3 optic nerve head and macula images over an average follow-up duration of 4.1 years were included. VF progression was defined using a composite measure including either a "likely progression event" on Guided Progression An

Interpreting posterior uveitis by integrating indocyanine green angiography, optical coherence tomography, and optical coherence tomography angiography data: A narrative review.

Posterior uveitis is sight-threatening disease entity that can be caused by infectious and non-infectious entities. Vision loss in posterior uveitis can be following complications such as cystoid macular edema, epiretinal membrane, artery and vein occlusions, vasculitis, papillitis, choroidal neovascular membrane, retinal neovascularization, tractional retinal detachment, vitreous hemorrhage, glaucoma, cataract, among others. Diagnosis of posterior uveitic entities have been revolutionized following introduction of choroidal imaging with techniques such as indocyanine green angiography (ICGA),

Novel Uses of Optical Coherence Tomography in Periodontology.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive imaging technology that provides high-resolution, cross-sectional views of biological tissues using near-infrared light. Since its introduction in the early 1990s, OCT has expanded from ophthalmology into dentistry. With micrometer-level resolution and no ionizing radiation, dental OCT offers significant advantages over conventional x-ray-based imaging modalities such as intraoral radiography and cone beam computed tomography, particularly for detecting early or subtle changes in hard and soft tissues. In this article, we review the evolution

Optical coherence tomography findings in Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

PURPOSE: To evaluate vitreoretinal interface (VRI) findings and layer-specific macular thickness profiles on optical coherence tomography (OCT) in children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). METHODS: This retrospective case–control study included 26 children with DMD and 28 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. All participants underwent comprehensive ophthalmic examination and Spectralis spectral-domain OCT. Ganglion cell–inner plexiform layer (GCIPL), inner nuclear layer (INL), and outer plexiform layer (OPL) thicknesses were obtained using the ETDRS grid (central 1-mm subfield and qua

Adaptive focusing optical coherence tomography for corneal imaging.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) plays a crucial role in diagnosing corneal diseases due to its capacity to provide high-resolution three-dimensional imaging. However, the convex shape of the cornea and the inherent trade-off between depth of field (DOF) and lateral resolution in OCT systems often result in defocusing issues, leading to reduced lateral resolution and sensitivity in single-shot high-resolution imaging. Traditional methods typically involve multiple focusing at different depths followed by image stitching to achieve full-depth high-resolution imaging of the cornea, which incre

Advancing optical coherence tomography angiography to the clinic.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography (OCTA) is a new clinical technology that advances the capabilities of OCT imaging by adding the ability to readily visualize vascular anatomy down to the capillary scale. With this level of detail, OCTA can be used to identify many important vascular pathologies such as capillary dropout, microaneurysms, or neovascularization. Because it offers high-resolution, high-contrast imaging of these and similar features, OCTA is useful not just for visualization but also for quantification. Quantification is a powerful feature that enables the potential f

[Current capabilities of anterior segment optical coherence tomography].

Optical coherence tomography of the anterior segment of the eye (AS-OCT) is a non-invasive method based on the principles of optical reflectometry (measurement of the degree of backscattering of light passing through transparent or translucent media). Limitations of the first devices of this type were associated with insufficient image quality of the details of the anterior chamber angle and the posterior parts of the lens, primarily due to the "working" level of the scanning wavelength (within 800 μm). Fundamentally new possibilities in the structural and functional assessment of the anterior

PURPOSE: To report the use of anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) for superficial keratectomy (SK) in anterior corneal opacity. METHODS: The characteristics of 43 eyes (39 patients) with various lesions responsible for anterior corneal opacity were included in this retrospective non-comparative study. AS-OCT was performed on all eyes before surgery. The thickness of corneal opacity and the underlying healthy stroma were measured. SK was performed on each individual. RESULTS: Four types of anterior corneal opacity were evaluated, including corneal degeneration (26/43), Reis

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography in Retinal Vascular Disorders.

Traditionally, abnormalities of the retinal vasculature and perfusion in retinal vascular disorders, such as diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular occlusions, have been visualized with dye-based fluorescein angiography (FA). Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is a newer, alternative modality for imaging the retinal vasculature, which has some advantages over FA, such as its dye-free, non-invasive nature, and depth resolution. The depth resolution of OCTA allows for characterization of the retinal microvasculature in distinct anatomic layers, and commercial OCTA platforms also

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography in Patients with Amblyopia.

To determine the optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) parameters including foveal avascular zone (FAZ) and vessel density (VD) in the amblyopic eyes compared with the fellow sound eyes and the eyes of the non-amblyopic subjects. In this case-control study, a total of 23 eyes from unilateral amblyopic children were included as cases. The sound eye of the amblyopic children was considered as the internal control and the right eyes of the non-amblyopic children were considered as the external control. All participants underwent image recording with OCTA. In the present study, an equal

Quantification metrics for telangiectasia using optical coherence tomography.

Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) is an autosomal dominant disorder that causes vascular malformations throughout the body. The most prevalent and accessible of these lesions are found throughout the skin and mucosa, and often rupture causing bleeding and anemia. A recent increase in potential HHT treatments have created a demand for quantitative metrics that can objectively measure the efficacy of new and developing treatments. We employ optical coherence tomography (OCT)-a high resolution, non-invasive imaging modality in a novel pipeline to image and quantitatively characterize de
