BACKGROUND: Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is always associated with juxtaepithelial inflammatory reaction followed by fibroblastic changes in lamina propria, with epithelial atrophy leading to stiffness of oral mucosa and causing trismus and inability to eat. Mid upper arm circumference (MUAC) is a useful tool for a fast assessment of the nutritional status.
AIMS: The study was undertaken to evaluate the correlation of MUAC as a nutritional status indicator in OSMF patients.

Ectrodactyly-ectodermal dysplasia-cleft (EEC) syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by the triad of ectrodactyly-ectodermal dysplasia, and facial clefting along with some associated features. Presence of all the three major features in a single individual is extremely rare. We report a case of 4 year 11 months old child with EEC syndrome having ectodermal dysplasia-cleft lip and cleft palate and ectrodactyly with some associated features. Clinical features, diagnosis and role of a dentist in the multidisciplinary treatment approach have been elaborated in this case report.

The treatment of complicated crown-root fractures (CRFs) is more challenging when the biologic width is violated. Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis involves fusion of the mandibular condyle with the base of the skull. It results in functional, esthetic, and psychosocial limitations, if it affects children at an early age. Hence, it is important to recognize and diagnose the pathology and provide immediate treatment alternatives to improve the patient condition. In this case report, we highlight the diagnostic perspective of TMJ ankylosis in children, and the use of 3D computed tomography as an effective diagnostic aid.

This article discusses a case of an 8-year-old female child who presented with severe lower anterior crowding and congenitally missing lower second premolars. A conventional serial extraction procedure could not be performed due to the congenital absence of teeth. Instead, planned extraction of a few primary teeth was done to relieve the lower anterior crowding, the results of which were near satisfactory.

Louis Edouard Octave Crouzon, a French neurologist, in 1912, described the hereditary syndrome of craniofacial synostosis in a mother and son. He described the triad as skull deformities, facial anamolies and exopthalmos now known as Crouzon syndrome (CS). CS accounts for about 4.8% of all cases of craniosynostosis. We report a case of CS in 4 year old girl with characteristic features of cranial deformity, maxillary hypoplasia, cleft palate and exopthalmos.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the imaging modality of choice in the evaluation of internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Dynamic MRI including the open and close mouth views in sagittal plane determine the exact position of articular disk and thus help to evaluate the joint for internal derangement. We also highlight the role of dynamic MRI of TMJ in diagnosis of stuck disk in a 17-year-old male who presented with symptoms of pain and difficulty in opening the mouth.
