Bacterial pyoderma is common in small animal practice. Usually there is an associated underlying disease, but little is known about the prevalence of underlying diseases in dogs with recurrent pyoderma. The aim of this study was to analyse the frequency of the different underlying diseases in dogs with recurrent pyoderma. In total, 157 animals with recurrent pyoderma were identified in hospital records from 2008 to 2013 and the data analysed for primary diseases. BACKGROUND: Granulomatous rosacea is a rare chronic inflammatory skin disease with an unknown origin. The role of Demodex follicularum in its pathogenesis is currently proved.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 54-year-old Moroccan man with a 3-month history of erythematous, nonpruritic papules on the lateral side around the eyes. Dermoscopy and histology confirmed the diagnosis of granulomatous rosacea.
CONCLUSIONS: We describe another clinical presentation of granulomatous rosacea with a clinical-dermoscopic-pathological correlation.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the curative effect and safety of dibutyl phthalate on demodicidosis.
METHODS: A single blinded and controlled study of human demodicidosis treated with dibutyl phthalate was conducted. One hundred and forty three patients with demodicidosis, including 81 acne and 62 rosacea, randomly divided into trial and control groups. BACKGROUND: Blepharoconjunctivitis is the commonest manifestation of ocular rosacea. Cilia epilation proves Demodex folliculorum, considered an etiologic factor in rosacea. In two independent studies, 0.125% amitraz solution applied half-body daily was found 73% effective in curing dogs with demodicosis previously refractory to biweekly or weekly amitraz treatments. Thirteen of the 16 cases that resolved did so after one course of treatment which ranged from four weeks to five months in duration. The other three cases initially relapsed but then were cured after they were re-treated. All cases deemed cured, including those that initially relapsed, were followed for at least one year after their last treatment.

The present in vitro study shows the efficacy of two antimite products (ByeMite = phoxim, Mite-Stop = neem seed extract) against all developing stages of the important red chicken mite Dermanyssus gallinae (obtained at two farms in France and Germany). We report on an 84-year-old woman with chronic pruritic otitis externa and myringitis. Microbiological and mycological investigations failed to establish the cause, but histology revealed a large amount of Demodex mites. Topical treatment for this ectoparasite resulted in a complete remission. The myringitis was eventually treated successfully with myringoplasty. To the best of our knowledge this is the first case report on Demodex-induced otitis externa and myringitis.

Mortality and health were studied in laying hens kept in an aviary system on a practical scale. All management inputs were done by university staff. Five batches of birds (trials) during a period of 6 years with approximately 4,700 birds per trial were included in the study. The aviary was a three-tiered "Marielund" system divided into 4 pens.
