Comparative analysis of revascularization with percutaneous coronary intervention versus coronary artery bypass surgery for patients with end-stage renal disease: a nationwide inpatient sample database.

BACKGROUND: The role of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) vs coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and concomitant end-stage renal disease (ESRD) remains unknown. RESEARCH DESIGN & METHODS: The National Inpatient Sample (NIS) (2002-2017) was queried to identify all cases of CAD and ESRD. The relative merits of PCI vs CABG were determined using a propensity-matched multivariate logistic regression model. Adjusted odds ratios (aOR) for mortality and other in-hospital complications were calculated. RESULTS: A total of 350,623 [CABG = 112,09

Percutaneous Mitral Valve Repair With MitraClip in Inoperable Patients With Severe Mitral Regurgitation Complicated by Cardiogenic Shock.

BACKGROUND: Severe mitral regurgitation (MR) complicated by cardiogenic shock has high operative mortality. Percutaneous leaflet repair with MitraClip (Abbott Vascular) is a less invasive alternative to surgery. The effectiveness and safety of this approach is unknown. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed procedural characteristics of shock patients with severe MR treated with MitraClip in a tertiary, high-volume program (Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota) during 2010-2019. The primary outcome of the study was 30-day survival free of significant MR (grade ≤2). One-year mort

Microplegia in cardiac surgery: Systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Consensus on the optimum choice of cardioplegia remains elusive. One possibility that has been suggested to have beneficial properties is microplegia, a cardioplegia of reduced crystalloid volume. The aim of this meta-analysis is to comprehensively investigate microplegia against a range of clinical outcomes. METHODS: To identify potential studies, systematic searches were carried out in four databases (eg, Pubmed, EMBASE). The search strategy included the key concepts of "microplegia" OR "mini-cardioplegia" OR "miniplegia" AND "cardiac surgery." This was followed by a meta-analys
