Perflutren cardiac ultrasound agents improve diagnostic accuracy in patients whose imaging is technically difficult. This report describes a case of sudden death approximately 5 minutes after the intravenous administration of 0.5 mL of perflutren contrast agent (Definity) during transthoracic echocardiography with suboptimal baseline images performed 10 days after coronary artery bypass graft surgery because of hypotension and tachycardia in a 73-year-old patient with severe left ventricular systolic dysfunction. Autopsy did not reveal a clear direct relationship between perflutren and death.

The goal of our study was to offer our contribution to the selection of the most suitable therapy to treat abdominal pregnancy. We discuss three patients affected with this pathology, which was diagnosed early by laparoscopy. The patients were treated with 50 mg/m2 of methotrexate administered intravenously. The abdominal pregnancy was terminated in all three patients. Parenteral chlorpromazine is a frequently used agent in the acute management of tension and vascular headaches. However, headaches caused by other more serious diseases may also respond to this drug. This case report describes a patient with aseptic meningitis who experienced complete but temporary relief of her headache with parenteral chlorpromazine, prior to the eventual diagnosis.

Experiments were done on 13 young lambs to determine if carotid denervation influences the cardiovascular and metabolic responses to i.v. administration of bacterial pyrogen [Salmonella abortus equi (SAE) 0.3 micrograms]. Each lamb was anesthetized with halothane and prepared for measurements of cardiac output, arterial and mixed venous oxygen saturations, and body core temperature. No sooner than 3 d after surgery, measurements were made during a control period and at 10-min intervals for 120 min after i.v. administration of SAE in seven carotid-intact lambs and six carotid-denervated lambs.

This study was designed to explore the use of hematocrit values as possible indicators of the threshold doses of adrenergic drugs in the performance horse. Acepromazine, detomidine, and fluphenazine were tested for their effects on hematocrit values, with the threshold dose for these effects investigated.
