High-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) was applied for the first time for the preparative separation of spirobisnaphthalenes from a crude extract of the endophytic fungus Berkleasmium sp. Dzf12, associated with the medicinal plant Dioscorea zingiberensis. Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is a thermochemical process for the wet conversion of oleaginous microorganisms and other biomass and carbon rich feedstocks to biofuels under subcritical conditions. It is a novel green process that produces biocrude as a primary product along with other by-products which include gases, aqueous phase coproduct (ACP) and solid residues. Here we describe in detail the protocols for the conversion of biomass to biocrude through HTL and separation, quantification and analyses of HTL products.

A set of racemic N-alkylated barbiturates were investigated for their direct enantioselective HPLC separation on a new chiral stationary phase (CSP) containing cellulose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarabamate) immobilized onto silica gel (Chiralpak IB) and its coated version (Chiralcel OD). They were online detected by UV and optical rotation detectors to trace the elution order of their enantiomers. Surprisingly, examples of false and true reversal of the elution order of enantiomers of barbiturates were observed and reported.

A systematic study of the interfacial energy (γ) of polypeptide complex coacervates in aqueous solution was performed using a surface forces apparatus (SFA).
