Salts are essential for maintaining native protein structure and biomolecular interactions. Native mass spectrometry often yields uninterpretable spectra due to salt adduction and signal suppression. Avascular necrosis (AVN) involves ischemic cell death of the bone. AVN leaves an abundance of necrotic lipids and debris in the bone marrow, which instigates inflammatory bone repair. OBJECTIVE: The safety and efficacy of Octagam, a solvent detergent (SD) virus inactivated intravenous gammaglobulin, were evaluated in 54 patients who received 301 infusions of Octagam for a total amount of 9301 grams, during 24 months.

Solutions of liquid detergent products were used to induce emesis in 15 patients who could not or would not obtain syrup of ipecac. Four patients refused to drink any of the solution and two others refused part, one of whom vomited. In the patients who drank all or part of the solution, 91% (10/11) vomited with a mean time to the onset of emesis of 6.5 min. None of these patients developed symptoms attributable to the ingested poison or the detergent solution. Liquid detergent solutions may be a useful alternative emetic for the poison center when a patient cannot be given syrup of ipecac.

The antimetastatic effect of Triton WR 1339 (TWR), a nonionic detergent, was evaluated in the rats bearing ascites tumor (Yoshida sarcoma or AH 66F). TWR did not inhibit the growth of primary tumor (ascites production). However, a marked inhibition of metastasis was observed in the lung and liver of rats treated with TWR. The results obtained suggest that TWR exerts antimetastatic effect before the entry of tumor cells into vascular channels. With other tests, it was found that TWR inhibits the release of tumor cells from tumor graft.
