Anterior cervical hypertrichosis is a very rare form of primary localized hypertrichosis. It consists of a tuft of terminal hair on the anterior neck just above the laryngeal prominence. The etiology is still unknown. We report the case of a 5-year-old boy who had a temporary dragon-shaped henna pseudotattoo, reinforced 4 days later. Two weeks later, as the pseudotattoo began to disappear, hypertrichosis developed in the area corresponding to the previous psuedotattoo. Skin biopsy showed an increase in vellus hair follicles, with slight peripheral fibrosis. After 4 months, the hypertrichosis resolved spontaneously.

Anterior cervical hypertrichosis or hairy throat is a rare dysmorphic sign described in a total of 19 patients so far. The association with a number of additional features has been reported, including mental retardation. We report on another patient with this condition who also had moderate mental retardation, mildly dysmorphic facial features, obesity, hypermetropia and additional hair anomalies (low dorsal hair line on the neck, lumbosacral hypertrichosis). Karyotype and array comparative genomic hybridization analysis at 1 Mb resolution were normal.

We report on a boy with congenital hypertrichosis, cardiomegaly and a mild osteochondrodysplasia, a rare syndrome of which there is only one previous report [Cantú et al., Hum Genet 60:36-41, 1982]. In all, five patients now are known to have this syndrome (2 females, 3 males). As the syndrome has been described in males and females and also in two sibs, inheritance is probably autosomal recessive.

Hypertrichosis lanuginosa acquisita (HLA) refers to abnormal and excessive growth of fine downy hair. It is a rare condition which has been reported in association with both malignancy and certain drug therapy. We report three cases occurring after administration of cytotoxic chemotherapy for cancer. A possible relationship is discussed and previous literature reviewed.

A patient is described with acquired hypertrichosis lanuginosa associated with malignancy; the case history and pathologic findings are described. The literature, consisting of 35 cases, is analyzed in respect to the hormonal and pathologic findings, and the age and sex of the patients. No definite hormonal cause is as yet assignable to this syndrome.
